KATHUA: In order to curb the menace of illicit distillation ofliquor, the Excise Department Jammuhas tightened its noose on violators ofthe various provisions of the J&K ExciseAct in entire Jammu Division.
On the directions of the ExciseCommissioner Mohd. Javed Khan andsupervision of Deputy ExciseCommissioner (Executive), JammuSyed Muried Hussain Shah, the ExciseTeam Kathua led by ETO Excise RangeKathua, Vikas Anand and Inspector Excise Sanjeev Khajuriaalong with excise staff raided the Banyari and Birsochakareas of Kathua District to arrest the menace of illicit distil-lation of liquor.
In the process more than 200 Kgs of Lahan and 25 bottlesof illicit liquor, which is highly hazardous and injurious forhealth was recovered by the raiding team from state land andlater destroyed on spot.

KATRA: Police on Wednesday traced a woman who wentmissing on Jan 4, 2018.
As per the details, on Jan 8, 2018 one person namelyBaldev Raj son of Munshi Ram resident of Choki JandroreRamnagar Distt. Udhampur along with sister in law reportedat Police Station GRP Katra and produced a written applica-tion regarding his 18 years daughter missing since Jan 4,2018 from the premises of Railway Station Katra.
On this a missing report was entered in the Daily Diary ofPolice Station GRP Katra and a team comprising ofofficers/officials of GRP Katra was constituted under thesupervision of SDPO Railways Katra in order to trace out themissing lady.
The team put all the efforts by way of announcements atRailway Station Katra as well as other Railway Stations ofGRP Katra, and a sharp look out notice was also issued inthis regard for a clue of the missing lady. Immediate messageswere passed through social media. Due to the professionalapproach and prompt action taken by the team the missinglady was traced out on Jan 9, 2018 and handed over to herhusband who lauded the role of GRP Katra for their timelyand swift action.

SAMBA: A pedestrian was killed in road mishap at SIDCOChowk Bari Brahmana in district Samba on Wednesday
The deceased has been identified as Karnail Singh son ofMakhan Singh resident of Taral Pulwama Srinagar.
According to the sources, a Scorpio (JK02BT-8786) comingfrom Jammu hit a pedestrian near Bari Brahmana resultingin the pedestrian getting injured and was immediately shiftedto nearby hospital from where doctor referred him to GMCJammu where he was declared as brought dead. The body ofthe deceased was shifted to Mortuary Room of the GMCHJammu. In this regard police has taken cognisance in thematter and started investigation.

As per the details, after developingspecific information SurinderChoudhary SDPO R S Pura con-ducted raid in village Phinder(Police Station Miran Sahib) andapprehended Jasmeet Singh aliasJuju son of Manjeet Singh residentof Phinder who was standing in alane near main road Phinder andcarrying a bag with him. Duringsearch, about 2 kg of poppy straw
was recovered from bag and Rs 11,300 from his possession.He was arrested and a case vide FIR- 05/18 under section8/15 NDPS Act was registered against him in Police StationMira Sahib.
STATE TIMES NEWSSAMBA: Minister forIndustries and CommerceChander Parksh Ganga onWednesday distributed an ex-gratia relief of Rs. 5 lakhamong the families of thosewho were killed in the crossborder firing along theInternational Border inSamba District.
The compensation has beengiven to the family membersof those civilians who werekilled on 1st of November2016 in the cross border fir-ing.
"It is our prime and moralresponsibility to extend everysupport to the victims ofcross border shelling andshare their grief and miserieswith a human heart", theMinister maintained .
Minister asserted that theState Government has initi-ated this scheme to compen-sate the victims who die incross border firing which wasa long pending demand of the
people of border areas. "Thiswas a firm commitment ofthe government towardsthese people which has beenmaterialised in the shortestpossible time", he added.
The minister said thatChief Minister MehboobaMufti recognised this issue astotally humane and took notime to approve the matter inthe Cabinet for larger interestof the people living along bor-ders. "Our governmentbelieves in action rather thanin hollow promises which has
been reflected in its initiativestowards development andwelfare of people taken upduring the tenure of the pres-ent dispensation so far", heasserted.
Ganga said that the amountcannot heal the wounds of thefamilies who have lost theirpeople but it can help theirsurvival. "The people living inborder areas are equallybrave and courageous like oursoldiers as they also face andfight heavy shelling and fir-ing," he asserted.
He further said that gov-ernment has also approvedthe long pending demand ofpeople to construct bunkersin border areas as securityand protection of our peoplefrom the unprovoked firingand shelling from Pakistan isone of the top priorities of thepresent dispensation.
The minister expressedsympathies with the affectedfamilies and assured themthat the government wouldleave no stone unturned tohelp them get out of theirlosses.
Deputy CommissionerSamba Sheetal Nanda alongwith other senior officersfrom the concerned depart-ments and a large number ofpeople were present on theoccasion.
The compensation wasgiven to the families ofMarsha Ram, Ravinder Kour,Neha Rani, Swarn Singh andArun Kumar, the victims ofcross border firing.

tration Samba. They allegedthat several time the peopleof village Raghu Chackdemanded to the districtadministration for closingthe crusher which is estab-lished in the residentialareas, but some days backanother crusher was estab-lished in the area. Afterprotest, they met SDMGhagwal and gave four daysultimatum to close thecrusher otherwise they willcome on road in a big way.

STATE TIMES NEWS RAJOURI: DistrictDevelopment CommissionerDr. Shahid Iqbal onWednesday convened a publicmeeting at Saaj village of thedistrict to take stock of publicissues besides assessing thestatus of ongoing develop-ment works in the area.
A team of officers includingACD Noor Aalam, ExecutiveEngineers ZubairChoudhary, Sadeeq Wani andNisar Khan, DSWO Dr.Abdul Khabir, DeputyRegistrar Cooperatives,

The locals apprised theDDC of various developmentissues being faced by them inday-to-day life seeking anearly redressal to the same.
The issues raised by thelocals included road connec-tivity to all the hamlets, com-pletion of Danna-Saaj Road,connecting Neerojal and Saajvillages with main road, pro-vision of drinking water as
there is no water supplyscheme approved for thearea, establishment of PHC,holding of PSGA camps,demarcation of land of HighSchool and construction of itscompound wall, installationof ATM at Saaj and shiftingof Niabat to Neerojal besidesother issues concerning devel-opment of the area.
The DDC directed theTehsildar to identify landpreferably State land forPHC in the area besides ask-iong the concerned fordemarcation of High SchoolSaaj land and construction ofcompound wall to protect theproperty of school. He alsoasked for conducting PublicService Delivery Camps atSaaj to provide revenue cer-tificates/documents and cer-tificate by health departmentat the door steps of the pub-lic.
Later, Dr. Shahid Iqbal vis-ited various sites and inspect-ed ongoing developmentworks and instructed the con-cerned officers for timely andquality completion.

The meeting wasinformed that 763 passen-gers have been air liftedsince the commencement ofthe subsidized helicopterservices. Increase in the airlifting of the passengershave been recorded in themonth of December andJanuary to the tune of 421passengers from Kishtwarto Marwah-Warwan andDacchan which is attrib-uted to the closure of theroad at Margan Top due toheavy snowfall.

Four months old baby ofSushil Dutta, media personassociated with EarlyTimes, passed away todaymorning in DistrictHospital Rajouri.
The baby was suffering
from heart problem sincebirth and was on regularmedical treatment while hissurgery was also scheduledafter few months.

People protest against districtadministration
STATE TIMES NEWS SAMBA: The people of the border belt staged a protest againstthe district administration Samba at village Kalibari onWednesday. Dozens of the families of the border belt led by ExSarpanch Darshan Singh assembled at Main Chowk Kalibariin district Samba and raised slogans against the districtadministration. They alleged that sometimes ago these fami-lies purchased a land 5/10 Marla plot of each family at villageKalibari near railway line and the land is under new railwaytrack which will go to SIDCO Phase 3 Industry area. Theydemanded the said land should not come under new railwaytrack.

KATHUA: In view of upcoming festival season, the LegalMetrology Department (LMD) conducted an extensive mar-ket checking in Chadwal and Dayalachak area under thesupervision of Assistant Controller Legal Metrology JaideepSingh Sambyal. The team booked five traders for violation ofLegal Metrology Act and Packaged Commodities Rules.
The inspection team also booked a wholesale dealer dealingwith sale of tiles under the brand name Jaguar Ceramic. Thetile packages carry use of rubber stamps for declaring MRPwhich was not legible and month and year of manufacture wasmentioned on unauthorised sticker both of which are violationsof Legal Metrology (Packaged Commodities) Rules 2011.Moreover, the tiles were found to be undersize. The LegalMetrology Officer Dayalachak booked the case against thetrader and seized the packages made and sold in sheer viola-tion of rules. All the defaulters were directed to produce theircases with relevant documents before Assistant ControllerLegal Metrology Kathua for further legal action.
