Sunday March 11, 2018 4 DISTRICTS Youth jumps into Chenab; body retrieved STATE TIMES NEWS DODA: A youth allegedly committed suicide by jumping into river Chenab from main bridge at Pul Doda on Saturday afternoon. According to reports, the 29 years old youth climbed the railing of the bridge at crowded Pul Doda and without giving passersby anytime to react, jumped into river Chenab. Reports said that people present on the bridge immediately raised an alarm and informed the police. A team of police and Chenab rescuers immediately reached the spot and started rescue operation. The deceased has been identified as Mohd Iqbal (29) Son of Ghulam Mohd resident of Marmat area of Doda. When contacted DySP Hqrs Doda Iftkhar Ahmed con- firmed the incident and said that after receiving an informa- tion about the incident, he along with SHO Doda immediate- ly reached the spot. "The body was fished out from Chenab by the hectic efforts of police team and Chenab Rescuers. We are investigating all the angles and have started inquest proceedings under section 174 CrPC at Police Station Doda to ascertain the reason behind this step by the Mohd Iqbal, " DySP added, saying that the body has been shifted to District Hospital Doda for postmortem and other legal formalities. 1,100 Kgs of Lahan destroyed STATE TIMES NEWS HIRANAGAR: Excise Department on Saturday destroyed 1,100 Kgs of Lahan during dif- ferent raids carried out against illicit liquor in Excise Range Kathua. On the directions of the Excise Commissioner Mohd. Javed Khan and supervision of Deputy Excise Commissioner (Executive), Jammu Syed Muried Hussain Shah, the Excise Team Kathua led by ETO Excise Range Kathua, Vikas Anand, Inspector Excise Sanjeev Khajuria, SI Amit Sharma along with Excise Guards Rajinder Singh, Akeel Ahmed and Mohd. Ramzan raided the Parso Chak, Chatrayala, Birso Chak, Lado Chak and Banyari areas of Kathua District to arrest the menace of illicit distillation of liquor. In the process more than 1,100 Kgs of Lahan, raw materi- al of illicit liquor was recovered by the raiding team from State land and later destroyed on spot. Man held with intoxicating capsules STATE TIMES NEWS SAMBA: Police arrested one person and recovered 80 cap- sules from his possession at Bari Brahmana. According to a report, a party of Bari Barhmana Police Station led by Inspector Mahesh Sharma intercepted one per- son namely Shiv Lal son of Pars Ram resident of Sarore Adda from Railway Station Bari Brahmana and during frisking, it recovered 80 capsules from his possession. He was arrested and a case under relevant section of law was registered against him. According to a report, Balbir Singh son of Bodh Raj resi- dent of village Bainglad consumed some poisonous substance at his home to end life. On seeing him lying unconscious, his family members shifted him to District Hospital Samba for treatment. Police has registered a case for investigation. Man nabbed with 1 kg poppy straw STATE TIMES NEWS SAMBA: Police on Saturday arrested a drug peddler and recovered one kilogram of poppy straw from his possession. According to a report, a team of District Special Branch Samba, Vijaypur and Ramgarh apprehended one person namely Sunil Kumar son of Bishan Dass resident of village Taloor Samba from Samba Chowk and during his frisking, recovered one kilogram of poppy straw from his possession. He was arrested on the spot and a case under relevant section of law was registered against him. 10 gamblers arrested, Rs 6,500 stake money recovered STATE TIMES NEWS SAMBA: Police on Saturday arrested ten gamblers and recovered Rs 6,500 as stake money from the gambling spot. As per the details, acting on a specific information, a party of Police Station Bari Brahmana headed by Inspector Mahesh Sharma, SHO under the close supervision of Ashok Sharma, SDPO Bari Brahmana and overall supervision of Anil Magotra, SSP Samba raided gambling spot at Telli Basti Bari Brahman and arrested 10 gamblers along with playing cards and recovered a stake money of Rs. 6,500 from the spot. The gamblers have been identified as Jaimangal Mahto son of Bhola Mahto, Snail Ram son of Badhri Ran, Harinder Singh son of Mukeshwar Pradhad, Mahesh son of Vindeshwar Parshad, Bhikhari Ram son of Birinchi Ram, Rambo son of Shivnath, Ajay Kumar son of Shiv Chanda, Shambu Kumar son of Brij Krishan, Parmodh Kumar son of Lalji and Anil Kumar son of Shiv Bhagat all residents of P Teli Basti Bari Brahmana and were booked under section 13 of Gambling Act in Police Station Bari- Brahmana. STATE TIMES NEWS SAMBA: Minister for Public Works Naeem Akhtar on Saturday laid the foundation of Bridge over river Devika at Utter Behni under CRF to be constructed at the cost of Rs. 12 crore and widening/improvement of Uttar Behni Purmandal Road via Mandal at the cost of Rs. 18 crore to be complet- ed by March, 2019. Member Parliament, Jammu-Poonch constituency Jugal Kishore Sharma and MLA, Samba Devinder Kumar Manyal were also present on the occasion. While addressing a public meeting in Purmandal, the Minister informed that the PWD (R&B) is executing works amounting to Rs. 125 crore in Samba constituency only. Samba would embark on a new journey of development with the roads that are being constructed in the district under CRF, PMGSY, NABARD and state sector schemes, he added. "These roads would prove to be a blessing for the lakhs of tourists thronging to the holy shrines in Uttar Behni and Purmandal every year," the Minister said, adding that there is a need to maintain environment of peace and brotherhood for the overall development of the state. MP Jugal Kishore Sharma, in his speech, informed that the Centre would soon sanc- tion the road project worth Rs. 98 crore for connecting Samba-Utter Behni- Purmandal-Mansar-Surinsar to Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine in Katra. Stressing on the develop- ment initiatives taken by the government, the MP informed that the work on Jammu-Akhnoor National Hoghway would be started soon. He said that constituen- cy wise development projects are being prepared by the gov- ernment and sent to the Centre for sanction for ensur- ing equitable development of all constituencies in the state. Speaking on the occasion, MLA, DK Manyal informed that the work on Purmandal Hospital would be completed soon at the cost of Rs. 71 lakh. The PHC, Purmandal is the only such health centre that has an ultrasound machine, he added. While speaking on the occasion, the minister enlightened about the devel- opmental works completed by the government in village Gudwal including 23 toilets constructed under Swachh Bharat Mission, one thou- sand rupees for pension of 15 widows, Rs 2 lakh to five families under State Marriage Assistance Scheme (SMAS), construction of Shamshan Ghat worth Rs 7.5 lakhs, 8 hand-pumps, up-gradation of transformer up to 250 KV and many more. Minister also inaugurated the black topping work of 1 km road from Gudwal to Shamshan Ghat to be con- structed at the estimated cost of Rs 20 lakh. He added that an era of development and progress has started in the State adding that social and eco- nomic upliftment of the weaker sections, downtrod- den, women, youth and farmers is on prime agenda of the government. The min- ister said that the govern- ment has laid full focus on development of infrastruc- ture and providing better civic amenities to the people of the State. The workshop is aimed at bringing together all the stakeholders dealing with the welfare of equines and to discuss a way forward to mitigate the issues and challenges faced by equine owners. On the occasion the min- ister said that the Brooke India is an international organisation dedicated to improving the lives of work- ing horses, donkeys and mules in some of the world's poorest communities. Hailing the efforts of the organisation for taking care of equines dedicatedly, the minister said that this inter- national charity is dedicated to change the lives of work- ing equines and their own- ers. Minister also inauguratedthe black topping work of 1km road from Gudwal toShamshan Ghat to be con-structed at the estimatedcost of Rs 20 lakh.

He added that an era ofdevelopment and progresshas started in the State

adding that social and eco-nomic upliftment of theweaker sections, downtrod-den, women, youth andfarmers is on prime agendaof the government.
