These are electronic devices with the potential for spark if a fault develops, and they vaporise a potential fuel source, you must not use them whilst using oxygen.

Notifying your home insurer that you are using oxygenIt is important that you tell your home insurance company about any oxygen equipment on your premises. This will ensure you are fully covered in the event that you need to make a claim. In most cases, this should not affect your insurance premium.

We arrange the insurance for our oxygen equipment. This means you do not need to insure it against theft or damage, and that your insurance company should not need to know the value of it.

A polite requestPlease ensure that your dog is out of the way when our engineer visits your premises. Even the most placid of dogs can become territorial or protective when someone new visits ‘their’ house. Sometimes overly-friendly behaviour or barking from a dog can be misinterpreted as aggression.

Please keep your dog on a lead or away from accessible areas when you are expecting a delivery from one of our engineers.

Your free Fire Safety CheckWhen oxygen is installed in your home, our engineer will check your smoke alarms.

We also inform the Fire and Rescue service that you have oxygen in your home so they can contact you to arrange a Fire Safety Check.

Transporting oxygen by carYou are able to transport your oxygen equipment in your car as long as you are safe and able to do so.

Here are some important points to remember:

• Ensure that the valves on any cylinders not in use are in the OFF position

• Make sure that cylinders are safely secured in the boot of the car, behind the front seats or strapped into the back seat

• If you are transporting more than one cylinder use a cylinder safety box. Ask your engineer if you have not got one

• When transporting an oxygen concentrator, ensure it is always kept in an upright position. Ideally secured behind the front passenger seat, in the foot well

• Remember to take your back up cylinder with you if you are travelling with a concentrator

• If you have to leave your equipment unattended in the car, ensure it is kept in the boot, out of sight

• Liquid oxygen flask must be kept upright

• And finally, always remember to never smoke whilst oxygen is being used.

To request a copy of the electricity reimbursement form, or for advice, please call us on:

0800 373580

Electricity refunds explained

All oxygen users are refunded the cost of electricity used to run their oxygen concentrator machines. This service has not been affected by the change of company name and you do not need to do anything as we will automatically transfer your information over. Your payments will be made quarterly as normal to yourself or your electricity provider.

As always, you only need to let us know if you move house or change bank/electricity supplier. This can be done using an electricity reimbursement form, or over the phone. When you complete the form, please remember to send the whole form back, don’t rip or tear the pages. If we don’t receive the whole form, unfortunately we cannot process it and will have to send it back to you.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

Keep consumables clean and safeOxygen masks and cannulae are very important parts of your home oxygen equipment and you should only use those provided by ourselves.

Your cannula can easily become blocked and masks can become dirty over time so it is very important to keep them both as clean as possible.

Clean your cannula daily with a warm soapy cloth; never immerse it in water. You should replace it every month or on the advice of your health care professional.

Your oxygen mask should be cleaned daily in hot soapy water,

12 0800 373580 • www.baywater.co.uk • @BaywaterHealth

Page 13: 4 ON - Baywater

then rinsed and air dried thoroughly before use. With regular cleaning, masks will last approximately 3-6 months.

The tubing we supply you with has been specially designed to prevent crushing but remember to check that it isn’t kinked, trapped or damaged anywhere. If you notice any damage, replace it immediately.

You can request new cannulae, masks and tubing from your engineer when they visit or by calling our Helpline on 0800 373580.

Does your tubing look like this? If so it’s time to change it, please call us.

Your oxygen cylinders are changing colourThe colour of your Oxygen cylinders is changing. The main body of your cylinders will be changing from black to white.

Please do not be worried, the cylinder, its valves and its contents will remain the same. The only change is the colour of the cylinder’s body.

The original colour scheme will be phased out over a period of time, therefore you may receive a mixture of cylinders with both colour schemes.

Little exercises, big benefitsNo matter your age or physical condition, any of us can benefit from exercise. Reaping the rewards of exercise doesn’t require strenuous workouts or trips to the gym, it’s about adding more movement and activity to your life, even in small ways.

There are many easy ways to get your body moving and improve your health, even at home. Here are three easy exercises that can be performed sitting down, with your feet flat on the floor:

Caution Please have a chat

with your healthcare professional before you take part in any

exercise.

Leg extensionsWith your knees together, squeeze your thigh muscles and straighten your left leg out in front of you. Then bend your knee and bring your foot back down to the floor. Repeat this up to ten times with each leg.

Overhead arm raisesHold your arms straight out to the side of you at shoulder height. Bend your elbows and raise both arms above your head. Then slowly lower your arms back down to shoulder height. Repeat this up to ten times.

Side arm raisesYou may wish to hold a tin of beans or tomatoes. Begin with your arms by your side; slowly raise your arms outwards until they are shoulder height. Hold this position for five seconds and then lower them back to your side. Repeat this up to ten times.

Page 16: 4 ON - Baywater

Method

1. Heat the olive oil in a large flame proof casserole (cocotte) and brown the meat, garlic and onion. Add the bay leaf, thyme and carrots, and enough water to cover the meat by at least a couple of centimetres

2. Bring to a simmer and remove any scum that rises to the top. Once all the scum is removed, cover the pan. Cook for 1.5-2 hours, or until the meat is tender

3. 5 minutes before serving add the peas and beans to the lamb. Cook until the vegetables are tender

4. Season with salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste, and serve straight away.
