Reading & Writing
Math
We wrap up Unit 1 this week! This means we will use our time during writing to do a research and inquiry week-long unit. The essential question is “What are the causes and effects of a natural disaster?” Students will work together to create a newscast during Writer’s Workshop. With the end of the unit brings our unit assessment. Students will use the skills and strategies from the unit to show what they’ve mastered! Students will read, answer comprehension questions, and also write a constructed response relating to the texts. On Friday, students will write meaningful sentences for ten of the words we’ve learned in Unit 1. We are confident that our students will do an awesome job! They’ve done well so far on our weekly tests and have learned many successful test-taking strategies to focus on and meet their testing goals each week.
There is no spelling this week
due to our unit assessment.
We will continue Chapter 4:
Multiplication and Division. We begin to focus more on
division with remainders and
solving word problems.
Math Support:
One great resource for practicing math
at home is: https://www.ixl.com/
math/grade-4 IXL has math
objectives by grade levels and practice problems for each objective. This is a
great way to review prior skills and
practice new skills!
Unit Studies: Social Studies We now switch from Science and start
studying Nebraska for our Social Studies
requirements. In the next 15 school days, we will cover these learning objectives:
• Nebraska’s history
can be explored through symbols and documents.
• Nebraska has a place on the map.
We use the text, The Nebraska Adventure by Jean A. Lukesh for
our Social Studies lessons.
