This course covers multiprotocol label switching (MPLS) concepts and terminology, design
considerations such as resiliency, and practical applications. Successful completion of the
Alcatel-Lucent Multiprotocol Label Switching course will enable students to demonstrate
a basic understanding of MPLS, label distribution protocol (LDP), resource reservation
protocol (RSVP) and resource reservation protocol with traffic engineering (RSVP-TE).

COURSE OBJECTIVES
After completing the course, students should be able to:
Understand the basic concepts of MPLS technology such as forwarding equivalenceclasses (FECs), labels and label stacks, label distribution, label switched paths (LSPs),and MPLS packet forwarding
Comprehend MPLS header structures and explain the label operations of pop, push, and swap
Understand the characteristics of different label distribution protocols and compare them
Explain how LDP works to distribute labels for FECs and establish LSPs
Demonstrate how RSVP-TE is used to establish traffic-engineered LSPs using RSVPsignaling messages to distribute labels, specify constraints for the LSP, and request LSP protection mechanisms
Configure an MPLS-based core backbone network using LDP signaling and RSVP-TE signaling
Manage and troubleshoot Alcatel-Lucents LDP-based MPLS infrastructure
Manage and troubleshoot Alcatel-Lucents RSVP-based MPLS infrastructure
