Benefits and Fundraisers for 4-Her Ally Odom

Ally is a member of our East Texas Young Riders club.

She was seriously injured in a horse riding accident

last weekend. Ally is still in intensive care and has a

long road of recovery ahead of her. There are several

ways that you can help her family during this trying

time in their lives, and at the top of the list is pray for

her and her family.

There will be a blood drive in honor of Ally on April

8, 2014 during the county livestock show. The bus

will be located at the Henderson County Regional

Fair Park from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. They have a goal of

20 donations, but would love to surpass that

number at least 5 times. Please help spread the

word, so everyone can be watching for the flyer

with additional details. Everyone please come out and

donate a pint of blood and Rally for Ally!!

An online donation account has been setup for those who would like to help

financially. You can visit http://www.gofundme.com/7r5lfg to donate online.

A benefit account has also been set up for Ally at the First State Bank in Athens. You

can go to any of the branches and make a donation to the account.

T-shirts are also in the process of being made and will be available to purchase at the

county livestock show. All proceeds will go to the Odom family.

Steer Starlettes awarded Mady Parker of Brownsboro 4-H one of the Persever-

ance Awards at the Houston Livestock Show. Its the HOOF award. They award

exhibitors who overcome adversity. Mady has had intrinsic asthma since she was

4 this type of asthma is self induced..triggers being all emotions we feel good and

bad. Showing cattle has taught Mady how to handle anxiety and stress. Watching

her calf scramble in front of a sold out crowd in Houston for Florida Georgia Line

was awesome!! 76,000 people and she followed thru and went out there and

helped 3 kids catch a calf. This is NOT something she could handle before..way to

much stress. She doesnt even have to take medicine anymore. Now Mady is pretty

tough and can handle a lot of situations because of showing! As her parents we

couldn't be more proud of Mady. See to us as a family its not about buckles and

banners or being first place, its bringing home a happy child with great memo-

ries made in the show ring circuit and winning has a whole different meaning to

us. A wise man said to me when we started showing.." you have to figure out what

winning means to you and go out and do it " Rick couldn't have been more right!!!

Kiwanis Easter Egg Hunt Kiwanis will be having an Easter egg hunt for children with special needs on Thursday, April 17th at Kiwanis Park. We are looking for 4-Hers who would like to help with this event. You would be buddied up with a child, and assist them with the egg hunt. If you would like to help, please call the Extension office at 903-675-6130 or email Angela at [email protected] and let them know. More details will be forwarded to you as we get them.
