Revised Kansas 4-H Dog Show Immunization Record Required for 2017-2018 The Kansas 4-H Dog Show Immunization Record, MG34 rev., October 2017, was recently updated for the 2017-18 4-H year. This record replaces MG34 rev., October 2014. Please use the new record dated October 2017, for all Kansas 4-H dog project immuniza-tions from this time forward. The one exception is MG34 rev., October 2014, will still be accepted for dogs attending the 2017 Kan-sas 4-H Dog Conference, October 21-22.

The revised form prints on an 8 1/2” X 11” piece of paper. It may be printed on any color of paper, and on any paper stock. To download your copy, visit: https://www.bookstore.ksre.k-state.edu/pubs/MG34.pdf. This immunization record is used for all local 4-H dog shows and for the Kansas State Fair 4-H Dog Show. For questions, contact Deryl Waldren, [email protected], 785-462-6281.

4-H Horse ID Certificate – New Instructions While I was working as a check-in clerk at the Kansas State Fair, I found quite a few 4-H Horse ID Certificate that were not complet-ed correctly. In fact, some of them could have been rejected. So that doesn’t happen in the future, here’s a few things to help. There is a NEW form that needs to be used for the 2017-18 4-H Year. The publication number is P1039 rev. October 2017. http://www.kansas4-h.org/projects/animals/horse.html

The form MUST BE front and back of one page, not 2 pages. A standard size picture MUST BE attached. The picture should include all 4 legs and feet showing a profile of the horse with the head turned toward the camera. ALL markings must be clearly visible. Members, Parent/Guardian, Owners (if horse is leased) and County Agents MUST sign and date signature. The ORIGINAL 4-H Horse Identification Certificate MUST accompany the 4-H’er. The county office and project leader may have a photocopy.

Some of the things I saw that were not correct are and will not be allowed in the future are:

4-H Horse Identification Certificates on 2 separate pages instead of front and back

Photocopies, not originals, or pictures of papers on your phone

Photos of horses not attached to Horse ID certificates

Not having all required signatures

Photos of horses that are more than 5 years old (especially on young OR gray horses) If you plan to show at your 4-H District Horse Show or the Kansas State Fair 4-H Horse Show, PLEASE make sure you are using the correct form and it is completely filled out.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact your local Extension agent.

Youth who attend this 11 day event will have the opportunity to visit the Liberty Bell, Independence Hall, the Museum of the American Revolution and Gettysburg. We will need a minimum of 35 youth and adults in order to make this trip happen for 2018 so please encourage your friends to sign up if they are interested. 2018 Kansas 4-H Ambassador Training The 2018 Kansas 4-H Ambassador Training will be February 23-24 at the Rock Springs 4-H Center near Junction City. It is open to all county/district 4-H ambassadors, interested teens, ambassador advisors and Extension staff. The theme is “4-H Ambassadors: Leadership on Target.” There will be six youth workshops, three adult workshops, two speakers, with lots of fun and fellowship.

Kansas 4-H Dog Judges’ Certification and Training News The Kansas 4-H Dog Judges’ Certification and Training will be January 26-28, 2018, in Wichita, Kansas at the Sedgwick County Extension Center. Beginning the training on Friday evening has allowed participants in one weekend to learn about the four dog phases of showmanship, obedience, agility and rally obedience of the Dog Care and Training Project. Those attending to become judges or to re-certify as judges experience judging classes to practice the skills necessary to effectively judge local 4-H dog shows. This is also a good opportunity for local project leaders and older 4-H members to observe the training to learn new knowledge and to better understand how they will be judged at invitational and the Kansas State Fair 4-H Dog Show.

2018 4-H Horse Panorama The 2018 4-H Horse Panorama has been scheduled for January 26-28 at Rock Springs 4-H Center.
