PREPARING FOR A NEW YEAR

Now is the time to look ahead and decide, how can we “Make the Best Better” in 2017? What do you think should be a new year’s resolution for the Grant County 4-H program? I am always open to hear your ideas and suggestions. Please email Charisse Orth at [email protected] or call 608-723-2125 to share your ideas. Let me know what is working, what is not working, and how we can better work together to promote education and positive youth development through Grant County 4-H.

WHAT AM I PLANNING IN 2017?

Communication: Practicing effective communication is a high priority for the Grant County 4-H program. We want to make sure everyone involved in the program is able to understand what is happening. Whether you are new to 4-H or if you have been involved for years, we want to help you be successful in the program. In 2017, we hope to communicate better through:

The 4-H ECHO: Please take the time to read the newsletter, “4-H ECHO,” each month. It is a valuable source for upcoming 4-H information.

Email: Certain 4-H related information can only be distributed through email because it comes to our office after the newsletter has been published. Make sure the email address you used to enroll through 4hOnline is working so you can stay up to date.

Planning: There will be Volunteer in Preparation (V.I.P.) Training(s) to certify new 4-H Leaders and volunteers. The State 4-H Program updated the materials used to certify new leaders to the V.I. P. training. If you have new families in your club or families who have re-enrolled, encourage the adults to go through this training. TAKE TIME TO THANK THE FOLLOWING FOLKS FOR HELPING WITH 4-H…

Adam Riley and Keita Suzuki from Mt. Hope Cardinals Club for assembling the December ECHO.

To all of the clubs that have supported local communities during the holiday season.

TAKE TIME TO CONGRATULATE THE FOLLOWING FOLKS FOR A JOB WELL DONE…

Adam Riley for serving as the 2017 Youth Vice President and as the Southwest Region representative to the Wisconsin Leadership Council.

4-Her of the Month Daniel Herbers - Blake’s Prairie Bombers 4-H Club

My favorite 4-H project is rabbits. I have been in this project for eight years. Attending the different ARBA shows and fairs allow me to exhibit my rabbits in competition. I participated in eight different shows and fairs in 2016, and I have ten lined up for 2017. At these shows, I meet other 4-H exhibitors, and I am able to discuss and listen to how they raise their rabbits. It is a learning experience along with making new friends. In 2016, I won many ribbons and trophies with my rabbits, but my major accomplishment was winning Reserve Grand Champion of the entire show with my meat pen at the Grant County Fair and winning the green ribbon sportsmanship award for rabbits.

I like the 4-H club and county meetings and helping the younger members of my 4-H club. The fairs and rabbit shows are exciting, and I love meeting and talking with other exhibitors. I joined 4-H when I was in second grade because I wanted to be a part of this group and have projects to enter in the fairs. Now that I am an older member, I love helping with leading the younger members with their projects and record books. The fairs and shows still give me a sense of accomplishment in my 4-H year. Because of 4-H, I am pursuing the field of leadership.
