Pine Mountain Quarry Rd near Desbrow St Street, Pine Mountain UBD 191 Q-R11 -27.5585, 152.7050A section of the old Brisbane Valley railway line comprising eucalyptus forest habitat can be accessed via an old rail line off Pine Mountain Quarry Road near Desbrow St. Walk south toward Walter Zimmerman Park to the point where a gully crosses the track through a culvert. The reserve includes some small dams. Walking is on the mostly flat, unsealed dirt track. Not a circuit track. Habitats include riparian vegetation, a tidal gully, eucalyptus forest and open parkland. A great diversity of birds to be seen. Several unsealed tracks provide the means to explore grassy and riparian areas and several lagoons. Look out for birds while in the Ipswich CBD: Southern Boobook, Mistletoebird, Superb Fairywren, Double-barred Finch, Australian Owlet-nightjars, Bush Stone-Curlew, Eastern Spinebill*, may be seen/heard in the Ipswich CBD and fringing suburbs. A walk from the car park provides a mixture of eucalypt forest and wetlands environments with breeding waterbirds. Good birding is also possible around the retreat itself.
