Reflections on Bible College term #1

I am thankful that God is working in my life

through His word and wisdom through the

teaching so that the ministry he calls me to

will be far more effective than it would have

been if I had not come. (Sian, 1st yr)]

I knew that coming to Bible College would challenge and change me. I’ve just been amazed by what God has already taught me about myself and pray that I will be willing to change.

So Clair—how is it ???

Evangelism is teaching me how to share the gospel more effectively to a multi-cultural society. Outreach in the afternoons has been challenging, but there is great unity among the students and we have known much help from the Lord.

(Janice, 2nd year student)

Andrew

FMBC — year #2!

The lectures not only inform my head but touch my heart. The triune God I worship is living, and I’m glad that the theology we learn is alive.

I am enjoying my time at Bible College so far. I have learned a lot from the lectures and I know God is going to teach me so much more. I enjoy the evangelism course on Thursdays and I feel that God is teaching me more about how to share the gospel with others. There have been some challenges too but God is using these to shape and develop my character. —Dean, 1st yr

[Kyan, 1st yr]

After coming back to Bible College I’ve been challenged by the fact that, ‘God resists the proud but gives grace to the humble’. God has been at work in my heart to remove the pride and to humble me. The work still goes on. [Jesse, 2nd year]

Bible College — An appreciation of the body of Christ — our diversity, different backgrounds, shared vision, shared story. (James, 1st yr )

4.7 million people claimed to belong to a belief system other than Christianity and that is just in England! The task is unfinished.

We are thrilled to have a group of students who want to be trained and equipped to become better disciple makers. Their passion is to see the

people of these islands and beyond come to know and follow Jesus. They study the Bible, doctrine, history, preaching, and a number of

other such subjects. They focus on growing in their relationship with

God and have lots of opportunity to hone their practical and spiritual gifts.

But the vision is to see students leaving who are passionate about fulfilling the mission. Please pray for us

and maybe pray about joining us!

It could be argued that our mission as Christians is to love God and love our neighbour as ourselves.

Others might argue that our mission is to glorify and enjoy God forever. It would be a mistake to

argue with either of these answers and a host of others besides. However surely it is possible to define the

word mission with a little more precision than to

simply see it as a synonym for faithful Christian living?

Mission in the normal sense of the word involves a sender, a person or

persons sent and an assignment. What is our God given

assignment as Christians? Just before Jesus, our commanding officer, ascended permanently to the Father he said to his followers, ‘ Go into all the

world and make disciples.’ That is our assignment, making disciples of the people we share

this planet with. It begs the questions, ‘How have we faired fulfilling this assignment in this nation?’ In the 2011 census

for England and Wales 14.1 million people said they were of no religion;

Over the past few months I have come to appreciate and treasure God’s word all the more. I know that my understanding of it is changing me and leading me to deeper levels of discipleship and Christ-likeness. I know I cannot leave this college the same as when I started.
