3rd Sunday of Easter

Luke 24: 35-48

Luke emphasises the pattern of salvation history in which Jesus fulfils God’s promises in His suffering, death and resurrection and in the preaching about Him to all nations. There is a dramatic element in this meeting between Jesus and His disciples. The last time they were together they were arguing which of them would be first in His kingdom; then at His arrest, they fled! Here now, He stood amongst them and His first words were “Peace be with you!” He was concerned to show them He was not a ghost and that He had a real body, although now a glorified body, the kind we hope to have at the resurrection. It was a body wholly subject to the soul, to which the matter of this world is no longer a hindrance. He enlightened their stunned minds and souls to the foretelling of His death and resurrection in the prophets and psalms and now, eyes opened, they were witnesses to these amazing truths and they were to go out from Jerusalem and in His name preach repentance and forgiveness of sins throughout the world. As St Paul writes, if we do not believe in the resurrection, our faith in Christ is in vain. i: So let us renew our Easter faith in the knowledge that it is “Through Christ the Sacrament of Encounter with God” ii that we meet God face to face.

CONFIRMATION - A TOOL FOR OUR GREAT JOURNEY! Life has often been compared to a journey, an adventure toward wholeness and happiness, toward peace and fulfilment. Many of our most difficult moments are those in which we much decide which "path" to take. Especially during our adolescent/youthful years, the road that leads us to genuine happiness and inner peace is often very difficult to see. This program will help your children with ONE STEP in a lifelong adventure of FAITH. Registration is open to year 11 and up. Deadline 27/4 and session starts 4/5. Please contact Faaki Tuanaki, ph. 0211644218 or [email protected] for more details.

St. Mary’s Primary School -

. After the Vigil Mass at Easter I went into the Sacred Heart sacristy and asked if I could have some of the Easter candles we had held

during the Liturgy. I had a plan!

The following Monday at prayer time we turned off the lights, pulled down the blinds and in the darkness we lit those candles. The new entrant and junior children were able to hold them as we prayed. It was wonderful prayer as we remembered that out of the darkness of the tomb, Jesus rose to a new life of light and love with us all. Nobody got burnt, nobody was afraid and everyone was able to sing our Easter Alleluia songs. It was a lovely spiritual experience with

those children.

Happy Holidays everyone!!!

N.Z. Catholic Primary Principals Executive.

Our principal, Ms Elizabeth Crowley, is one of 3 Principals from the Palmerston North Diocese recently appointed to the N.Z. Catholic Primary Principals Executive. Liz is well deserving of this honour and is capable of offering strong leadership within it. Our warmest congratulations to her. We are truly blessed to have Liz as the principal of our school and offer her our continued prayer support in

this role and in her new role.

God’s blessings Ms Crowley. We are very proud.

St. Joseph’s Primary School - Week 11

What a wonderful celebration to welcome into our Faith Family 15 of

our students this week. May they and their families be blessed as

they continue to grow in the knowledge of God’s love. Thank you to

all our families who have helped the staff and students during this

very busy term. A special thankyou to our wider Parish community

who come in on a weekly basis to work with students and staff on a

variety of tasks, your help and support of our school is very much

appreciated. God Bless and watch over everybody during the

holidays and we will see you all back on Monday 30 April ready for a

new term.

St. John’s College -

As Term One draws to a close, the senior students are busy

completing internal assessments and looking forward to the

holidays. The Young Vinnies helped out at the St Joseph’s school

Survivor Slum night and are in the process of planning their own

Survivor Slum for Term Two. A group of students under the

guidance of Mr David Ivory are involved in a programme where they

connect with people suffering with mental health issues at Hastings

Lighthouse. Last year students created a poverty index, the first in

Hawke’s Bay, and are busy working on a second iteration of the

index which they hope to present later on in the year.
