• Neutronic CATIA model of the ITER diagnostic equatorial port plug 1 (EPP 1) at CEA/Cadarache

Outgassing measurements: why?

16 December 2010

Outgassing is the gas desorbed from a vacuum surface due to the temperature of the surface.

Critical issue: contamination of the ITER plasma!

In-vessel component:

• 316L(N)-IG stainless steel

• T=120-150°C (240°C for baking)

• Internal vacuum ~ 10-3-10-2 Pa

Outgassing limits are given in the ITER Vacuum Handbook.

Experimental measurements are necessary to verify the compliance with the limits.

HIPing: no outgassing data are available in literature.

The obtained results are only preliminary and as a consequence cannot be compared yet to the outgassing limits.

Neutronic EPP 1 CATIA model - 1

Objective: create a simplified EPP 1 CATIA model in order to enable neutronic analyses.

Interface programs like McCAD are able to convert CAD geometry data into a suitable model for the Monte Carlo transport code MCNP.
