Circular Bioeconomy - In brief• Circular-by-nature green technologies worth
Trillion Euro and expected to double by 2020.• Definition: Uses biolgical resoureces as well as
wastes as inputs to food & feed, industrial andenergy production
• Cover the uses of Bio-Based process forsubstainable industries
• Bio-wastes: considerable potential as alternativeto chemical fertilizer of for convertions tobioenergy (2% of EU renewable energy targets)

Bioeconomy: circular-by-nature• The bio-based economy is circular-by-nature because carbon is
sequestered from the atmosphere by plants. After uses and reuses ofproducts made from those plants, the carbon is cycled back as soilcarbon or as atmospheric carbon once again (D. Carrez, BiobasedIndustry Consortium).
• The circular economy focuses mainly on the efficient use of finiteresources and ensures that those are reused or recycled as long aspossible. The bioeconomy integrates the production of renewableresources, in particular renewable carbon.
• EU has a Bioeconomy Strategy in place since 2012, and since July 2014,it has a Public-Private Partnership on Bio-based Industries (BBI) thatinvests €3.7 billion in innovative technologies and biorefineries thatconvert biomass and wastes into greener everyday products such asfood, feed, fibers, chemicals, materials, fuels and energy.
