3 rd Grade: Unit 3 Parent Resources www.rethinkmathematics.com Dear Parents, During the third unit of math instruction, your student will be learning the following new 3 rd grade skills: exploring relationships between operations, fluently multiplying and dividing within 100, word problems using all four operations, multiplication of one-digit numbers by multiples of 10 from 10-90. Their success in mastering these new concepts is dependent on how well they understand the following standards from the previous unit as well as the previous grade level standards as outlined in the Unit 1 Parent Letter distributed earlier in the year: 1. Interpreting products of whole numbers 2. Interpreting whole number quotients 3. Multiply and divide with word problems 4. Determine unknown numbers in multiplication and division Below are some resources that you and your child can access at home to practice the above skills. Each resource has printable worksheets (and answer sheets) that correspond to the standard. Please make time to practice these skills each week. There are also links to enrichment activities and math games at the end of the document as well. PREVIOUS UNIT CONCEPTS AND STANDARDS Skill Interpreting products Example 5 x 7 is the same as 5 groups of 7 objects each. Resource www.ixl.com/math Click on “3 rd Grade” then “Multiplication sentences” under “Multiplication” Skill Interpreting quotients Example 56 ÷ 8 is finding how many objects are in each share when 56 objects are split into 8 equal shares. They have twenty-four dollars with them. How many $4 breadsticks can they buy?
