How to Get the Most Out of Your Convention Experience

Welcome! We are honored that you have made the trip to join us. We want this to be a great experience for you. Here are some tips to make this a wonderful experience:

• Take lots of notes. You can’t remember it all. You can refer to your notes when you get home.

• Create an “Action Items List” in your notes. Every time you get an idea you want to apply, place it in action items. You’ll then have an actions list when you get home.

• Take lots of photos. You’ll remember more of the experience!

• Attend as many sessions as possible. There are plenty to choose from. Make good use.

• Introduce yourself to others. Make new friends! Find people to hang out with. Trade contact info and stay in touch. Try to go to dinner with someone new every night!

• Hang out in our artists’ lounge in the Portola at night. Lots of people will be there. It’s a great way to learn.

• Ask instructors and field painters for pointers when you’re out painting.

• Watch demos by field painters so you get lots of ideas in the field.

• Paint with others. It’s more fun and you’ll learn more.

• Snatch up demos and paintings in our art show. It’s a great opportunity to collect great paintings at reasonable prices.

• Introduce yourself to PleinAir team members. We want to know everyone here!

• Most important: Keep it fun!

THANK YOU TO ALL OF OUR 2014 SPONSORS!

Page 4: 3rd Annual Plein Air Convention & Expo - PROGRAM

B. Eric Rhoads

Publisher/Chairman

Everything starts with a dream. We dreamed of a magazine to lead and

reflect the plein air movemnent. PleinAir was born. Then we dreamed of a

place we could gather as artists, collectors, gallery owners, and enthusiasts

to improve our skills and become closer to those who share our passions

for plein air painting. We are here together living that dream.

It’s an understatement to say that I’m honored you invested your time and

money to be here. I’m also honored to have some of the finest painters in the

world on our stages and in our audiences. Yet you will learn quickly that at

this event, everyone is embraced as part of the family, no matter their skill

level or accomplishments. We’re all in this together and we all started out

unable to paint, which is why you’ll find everyone so giving.

Three years in a row — we’re making history together again with the larg-

est number of plein air painters painting together in one place at one time.

This year we are painting every day in some stunning locations. This year

we have also added stages for Watercolor and Pastel and continue our main

and expo stage traditions. Our Expo Hall has more vendors and of course

we have our art show. This is a great opportunity to take home some amaz-

ing paintings by faculty and attendees.

In my Marketing Boot Camp, I teach that repetition is one key to success.

Many of you are at our third convention, and some of you at your second. Of

course there are many first-timers as well. Thank you for returning.

We’ve asked all of our faculty (on stage and field painters) to be generous

with their time to help all of you grow as painters. I think you’ll find them all

to be interested and helpful. We want to thank you for making the trip — in

some cases from faraway places from around the world. Frankly, even if

you just drove from across town, we’re still very appreciative that you would

choose to spend your time with us.

Look for the blue shirt team — any of them can help guide you or answer

your questions.

I hope you’ll introduce yourself so we can get acquainted, and perhaps get a

chance to paint together. (I brought my paints yet again this year!)
