Session Descriptions

Comprehensive, Integrated Three-Tiered (Ci3T) Model of Prevention Overview Participants can come and go throughout the day to ask questions, explore resources, and inquire about training possibilities for the 2017-18 school year. This is an open resources session. Conference Room A- All Day

Breakout Session 1 Strategies for Students with Internalizing Behaviors Anxious, depressed, and/or withdrawn students are in every classroom, but they often go under our radar and don't get the supports that they need. This session will provide guidance in identifying students with internalizing behaviors, as well as strategies to support this often-overlooked student population. Outcomes: Participants will be able to access resources to help identify students with internalizing behaviors. Participants will explore strategies to support students with internalizing behaviors, and will decide on one action step that they will utilize next school year. Target Audience- ALL Presented by: Trish Diebold and Tara Schillhahn Room 1 Dyslexia / Literacy Outcomes: Participants will leave with an understanding of what dyslexia is and what it is not; low cost, budget friendly suggestions for classroom support, and knowledge of available book, web, and other resources to continue their learning. Target Audience- Teachers, Administrators Presented by: Judy Hyatt, Cheryl Perry, and Carla Vasser Room 2

Multidimensional/ Multi-Tiered Approach This session will include resource mapping and strategies to make community connections to fill needs across all 3 tiers. Outcomes: Participants will learn how strategies to make community connections fit within current tier 1, 2, 3 supports. Target Audience- Administrators, Counselors Presented by: Devon Minch Room 3

Tier 1 Reading Instruction for English Language Learners (ELLs) What’s the same? What’s different? This session will highlight culturally and linguistically responsive instruction for ELLs in literacy. We’ll investigate embedded supports that make Reader’s Workshop work better for English learners, and learn strategies for enhancing oral language development as a basis for literacy development for English learners. Come find out what research tells us about how we can fine-tune our literacy instruction and partner with families to build on student strengths and accelerate both language and literacy development for English learners. Outcomes: Participants will empathize with the extraordinary challenge English learners face when learning to read in a new language. Participants will effectively engage English learners’ families and build on home languages to accelerate language and literacy development. Participants

will discuss, practice, and set an action plan to incorporate daily oral language development to enhance literacy instruction across the curriculum. Participants will examine components of Readers Workshop through a second language acquisition lens to strategically embed supports necessary for English Learners to become proficient readers of English. Target Audience- ALL Presented by: Debra Cole Room 4

Mindfulness-Based Strategies for the Classroom Mindful.org describes Mindfulness as "the basic human ability to be fully present, aware of where we are and what we’re doing, and not overly reactive or overwhelmed by what’s going on around us." Mindful practices have gained momentum in educational settings as one of many solutions to helping youth and adolescents deal with stress and engage in school. Join this session and explore materials and ideas to embed mindfulness-based techniques in your school or classroom.

Outcomes: Participants will explore mindfulness-based strategies as a tier one strategy in the classroom, have an opportunity to practice strategies, and review the evidence of impact mindfulness-based strategies have on the brain and learning. Target Audience- Teachers, Counselors, Administrators Presented by: Adam Krenski Room ABA Training

Breakout Session 2 Math Tiered Interventions In this session, participants will explore the relationship between the mathematical strategies described in the Missouri Learning Standards and the High-Yield Strategies by Marzano through hands-on activities they can use in the classroom tomorrow. Outcomes: 1. Participants will understand the difference between a research-validated strategy and classroom activities. 2. Participants will be able to identify a classroom activity for each of Marzano's strategies. Target Audience- All Presented by: Amanda Wise Room 1

Effective Teaming and Principles for Effective Collaboration This professional learning opportunity will provide teams with best-practice principles to develop effective teams. Participants will learn and practice skills for effective teaming, including norms of collaboration, meeting characteristics, and being an engaged participant. Outcomes: By the end of this session, participants will know the characteristics of effective teams and be able to describe key components of a meeting as measured by pre and post consensogram. Target Audience- ALL Presented by: Julianna Dempsey and Kristin Zimmerman Room 3
