Directions

Round 1: Start with a sliding loop; ch3 (counts as 1tr); work 11tr in the loop; sl st

in the top of the ch3 and tighten loop (12 tr total).

Round 2: ch4 (counts as 1tr and ch1); [tr in next st, ch1] repeat to end of round; sl

st in the top of the beginning ch4 (24 sts total).

Round 3: ch3 (counts as 1tr); [2tr in ch1 space, tr in next st] repeat to end of round

ending with 2tr in last ch1 space; sl st in the top of the beginning ch3 (36 tr total).

Round 4: ch1; [dc in next 6 sts, 2dc in next st] repeat to end of round; sl st in

beginning ch1 (40 dc).

Round 5: [ch4; miss 1dc; dc in next st] repeat to end of round with last dc going

into the base of the beginning ch4. You should have 20 ch4 spaces.

Round 6: sl st in ch4 space; [ch5, sl st in same space, (ch3, sl st in next ch4 space) 5

times] repeat 4 times ending with a sl st in the beginning ch4 space.

Round 7: sl st in ch5 space; ch6 (counts as 1dtr and ch2); 2dtr in same ch5 space;

[3tr in next ch3 space; 3htr in next ch3 space; 3dc in next ch3 space; 3htr in next

ch3 space; 3tr in next ch3 space; (2dtr, ch2, 2dtr) in next ch5 space] repeat to end

of round ending with 1dtr in beginning ch5 space; sl st to the top of the ch6.

Round 8: ch5 (counts as 1tr and ch2); 2tr in ch2 space; [tr in next 19 sts, (2tr, ch2,

2tr) in ch2 space] repeat 3 times; tr in next 19 sts; tr in beginning ch2 space; sl st to

the top of the ch5. (Note: you can use htr instead on this row if tr makes the

square too big).

Fasten off, leaving a 12 - 18 in. (30 45 cm) tail for sewing.
