In-Process Work CartFlexible for virtually all sizes of parts, in-process carts can include a handle for manual movement or a hitch for vehicle delivery. Large casters, available in rubber, polyurethane or ESD wheels offer maneuverability over all floor surfaces and conditions. Cart structure can be reinforced as necessary to handle a wide range of weights, yet cart itself remains light.

WorkstationProductivity begins at ergonomic workstations with convenient part presentation, correct work surface height (built to your specifications) and with direct, above the work area lighting. Workstations can be stationary or rolling, using casters with brakes, and can be fabricated using electrostatic discharge pipes and joints for protection of static sensitive products.

Flow Rack with Pick-to-LightThis multi-lane conveyor combines ergonomic part presentation and the Creform Pick-to-Light System. This Poka Yoke type of error prevention ensures the proper parts are selected in sequence. System is capable of communicating with internal LAN systems. Pick-to-Light can be installed to both picking side and loading side of structures.

Dual Angle Flow RackA single supply lane flow rack/part presentation stand constructed using the Creform® skatewheel feed conveyors also features an empty container return lane at the bottom. It incorporates dual flow angles to ergonomically present containers and parts at assembly stations, machine loading points and other manual part handling locations.

ESD Flow RackMobile flow racks with locking casters allow operators to make their assembly areas more ergonomically friendly and flexible while minimizing floor space. The flow rack shown here is made from ESD pipe and joints providing static protection of sensitive electronic components. Part or sub-assemblies are presented ergonomically in the upper levels while empty containers are placed in the lane below.

Dunnage CartA Creform cart is easy to build to match dunnage requirements and can be made using a variety of materials and easily modified when those needs change. The prime objectives are to protect parts and sub assemblies when sequencing to the line. The hitch on this cart can be used with a Creform AGV or manual tugger. Material used on this cart is plastic corrugated sheeting.

Push CartMoving parts and assemblies through production areas need not require extra effort because of heavy carts. Creform push carts are lightweight yet strong, offer exceptional maneuverability, and can be built to exact size requirements. Carts can be built using ESD pipe, joints and casters for transporting sensitive electronic components.

Display BoardCreform systems don’t have to involve high technology logistics for material handling. Even a simple movable display board, contributes to plant efficiency through communication and the Five S philosophy.

High Capacity Flow RackThis high-capacity, height and angle adjustable flow rack offers high strength construction to hold up to 350 lb. per level. Use of Creform HPA and HPB pipe forms a double pipe for strength and unique metal joint provides the adjustability. The structure can also be used as a storage rack, or transformable mobile flow rack and point-of-use rack in a variety of warehousing, manufacturing and assembly operations.

Drawbridge CartOptimum part holding capacity, with maximum accessibility from top to bottom. Once emptied, hinged levels of cart easily release and lift up out of the way to provide access to lower levels minimizing obstruction when removing parts of awkward shapes and sizes. AGV Automated Guided Vehicles

Folding, Portable Tool Crib

Folding, Portable Tool CribFor maintenance and setup personnel, and even builders of Creform structures, this portable tool crib lets you take your shop to the job. Maximum storage capacity with side units that fold out for access, fold in for maneuvering through tight aisles. Add peg board, bins, tool boxes — to straighten, standardize, shine, sweep, and sustain.

AGV Automated Guided Vehicles Creform Automated Vehicles are simple to design, build and install. Because they follow a magnetic tape on the floor they require no floor cutting. They easily adapt to changing process requirements, present parts and assemblies in sequence to operators, all at a cost savings over standard AGVs. They can be designed to hold multiple parts or sub assemblies in sequence. Or with the addition of a hitch they can become an automated tugger. They can also be used as highly flexible mobile assembly lines. AGVs can be programmed to slow and then stop at work areas for off-loading. Multiple courses or routes can be programmed into the optional Creform Course 10 Controller. For more details see the AGV pages located in Section I, Special Products in this catalog.

Work Table Need a work surface? Creform pipes and joints let you build one anywhere, to any height and any size. Surface tops can be wood, plastic or sheet metal and can be permanently attached or removable. Add a back shelf to tilt and orient tools or parts for easy access.

Packaging/Utility CartMulti-tasking packaging/utility cart puts tools and supplies required for repetitive packing duties all in a convenient, portable and ergonomic design. Cart can dispense rolled plastic film, paper wrap, or dunnage packaging such as bubble wrap. Compartmented tray or shelving holds tape rolls and dispensers, box cutters, labeling and writing implements. Tool holders and holsters can be incorporated into the construction to safeguard and keep frequently used devices handy.

Heavy-Duty Height-Adjust WorkstationThis heavy-duty workstation with 1000 lb. load capacity uses Creform high strength ø42mm pipe and complementary joints and accessories. It includes a motorized height adjustment feature for easily changing the work surface elevation and can include ergonomic part/tote box positioning, an overhead light, and tool mounting options as illustrated by the suspended electric screw/nut driver.

Modular Cart DolliesFour GN-400 Module Carts are shown interlocked and joined in a square pattern, ready to be loaded to transport containers to various process points, or to just maintain safe, clean work areas by keeping containers off the floor and easily moveable. Made of rugged polypropylene, each individual cart provides 445 lb. load capacity. Carts weigh less than 10 lb. and have molded hand grips for easy carrying.

Cradle Push CartThis Cradle-style push cart features an open design and low platform height, along with an extended length that’s ideal for transporting long pipe, tube, conduit, molding, and trim pieces in manufacturing and warehousing environments. Cart has a load capacity of up to 750 lb. and low, 24 inch height provides good ergonomics for loading /unloading while 3' W x 5' L platform supports longer materials. Six large diameter wheels available in swivel form for excellent maneuverability. Center fixed casters provide good directional control.

Stackable Shipping RacksStackable shipping racks incorporate dunnage capabilities that secure and orient parts, subassemblies and Class A components to help minimize the risks of part damage. They are constructed with feet that mate with receivers mounted on the tops of other units for easy stacking. Casters make them maneuverable. They’re ideally suited to manufacturers and assemblers who use suppliers who deliver on a JIT basis. These returnable structures help keep shipping costs in check by minimizing the amount of ‘air’ shipped.

Locking Tool CabinetTool cabinet with lockable, clear acrylic enclosure doors safeguards tools and other equipment while helping to keep them clean and neat. Reverse side has matching locking doors also. The upper portion of the unit has standard peg board and hook mounting, and simple open storage racks for totes and bins in the lower section. It can also feature folding work surfaces, lighting and drawers for paperwork.

Kitting CartKitting Carts are ideal for automotive, aerospace and other industries where kitting is beneficial. It provides ample shelving space, large part suspension, tool holders, and a host of available accessories to help transport, organize, store and safeguard components. Cart capacities range from 300 to 1000 lb. and shelves are easily adjustable. Large diameter casters provide excellent maneuverability. Wide selection of pipe colors allow customization by department for easier identification.

CREFORMSTEM CASTERS

YGR casters are designed to fit the I.D. of ø28 pipe, secured by expanding a rubber mandrel. An EK-20 caster wrenchis required to tighten mandrel (see page H-2). YKR caster is a press fit, tapped into the end of pipe and secured with a

self-tapping screw. Suffix S = with stop; ESD = electrostatic discharge. Dimensions are in millimeters.

Creform Pipe should always be cut using a pipe cutter, band saw or chopsaw — never use a hand saw to cut pipe asthis will frequently result in pipe sections not cut to the required lengths and pipe ends out of square.

These conditions can effect the fit and strength of your Creform structures.

CREFORM TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONSBASIC DESIGN CRITERIA

The impact Creform Systems willhave on your immediate and long-term material handling needs islimited only by the creativity of yourstaff, not by their ability to masterthe laws of physics and structuralengineering. There are only a fewdesign guidelines to follow, aminimum of weight load factors toconsider, and some basic tools forassembly. Even the most complexapplications adhere to the samecriteria, because Creform structures

are modular in nature and allcomponents and accessories areengineered and produced toconsistent dimensional quality.

The Tools.Only a few basic tools are requiredto create Creform structures. Apower or manual pipe cutter shouldbe used for straight-cut ends, adeburring tool, a tape measure anda mallet. Metal joints use a one size

hex wrench. A squeeze bottleapplies adhesive for plastic joints.An open end wrench adjusts stemcasters. Some joints and accessoriesmay use self tapping screws, so adrill and screwdriver may berequired in those instances.

Efficient Creform Modules BeginWith A Well Conceived Plan.No matter how simple the projectyou plan to build may seem,assembly will go faster and

smoother, with fewer errors andwasted material if you establish alayout drawing or sketch. These canbe hand drawn or utilize a CADsystem and should include finaldimensions and anticipated loads.All load factors and assemblyinstructions are located in thissection.

In your plan, consider that,typically, a continuous run of asingle pipe provides greater strength

than several pieces splicedtogether.

To maintain structural integrity,it is essential that all pipe ends fitinto joints, whether plastic ormetal, to full depth — in almostall cases this is 30mm. When determining pipe lengths,be sure to include this dimension,and never diminish a joint’sstrength by inserting pipes topartial depths.

Remember that the concept ofCreform Systems is tobuild structures that areeasy to use, and topresent parts in anergonomic fashion. Ifthey are too large orawkward to move, thisdefeats their objective.For example, in mostcases we recommendthe depth (or width) of amodule not be more thantwice its opposite andthe height not exceedthe sum of its width and depth.

What Do You WantCreform To Do For You?The application youintend for your Creformstructure will helpdetermine whether touse plastic joints ormetal joints. Basicconsiderations includethe environment (plasticprovides betterresistance to theelements), weight of the

structure (plastic is lighter),foreseeable modifications (metaljoints can be easily disassembledand reused), vibration (metaljoints absorb vibration andimpacts better), and strength(typically, permanently bondedplastic joints are stronger).

Creform Standard PipeCreform Pipe is steel pipe with a plastic resin coated outer surface. An adhesive bonds the resin to the pipepreventing separation. The inner surface is treated with a non-corrosive coating.

Typical Applications

PreCutting: We offer precut pipe and conveyor as a customer service. Cut to length with a +/-1mm tolerance andeach end deburred. A great time saver when assembling.Bent Pipe: We bend Creform 28mm round pipe as a customer service. Generally, we bend the pipe using a 150, 200,or 250 radius. Larger variable radii also available.Temperature: Creform is designed for use within the temperature range of 15º to 120ºF (-10ºC to 50ºC).Chemical Resistance: Please inquire with your specific requirement.

Creform Standard JointsStructures are formed by connecting pipes with our Metal and Plastic joints. When choosing the joints to use for yourproject, give consideration to flexibility, reusability, strength, environment, and cost factors. Further details below willhelp you choose the right joints for your application.

• The flexibility and reusability of our metal joints makethem the most popular among our customers.

• Metal joints are the superior choice if your structurewill experience vibration or impact loading.

• Available either as H-components or HJ-joint sets. The H-components are joined together with a common sized nut/bolt to form HJ-joints. The jointsare designed to hold the nut so only a simple hexwrench is required for assembly or disassembly.

• To ensure maximum holding strength, pipes should be fully inserted to joint’s physical stop and the boltshould be torqued with a 5mm hex wrench to 9.8Nm(100kg•cm or 7-1/4 ft-lb). Be careful not to overtighten to prevent pipe or joint damage which wouldcompromise structure.

• ESD versions available for anti-static applications.

• Metal joints are available to fit both 28mm and 32mm pipe.

• Permanently attached to Creform pipe using ourspecial purpose adhesive. MSDS sheet available.

• Great for outdoor applications or any applicationwhere moisture is a consideration.

Metal Joint Strength for Standard 28mm PipeA. The holding strength of metal joints versus a horizontal or vertical pulling force is about 80kg (176 lbs.) These tests

were performed at room temperature at a pulling rate of 5mm/min.

B. The amount of force a pipe can withstand before yielding, when attached by various metal joints, can be seen below.

C. The maximum force withstood by the shelf in thisexample was 200kg (440 lbs.) before slipping occurred.

Note: The above examples refer to metal joints whichhave been attached at the recommended torqueof 9.8Nm (100kg•cm or 7-1/4 ft-lb). These resultswill not be duplicated with other torque values, orin cases where pipe other than Creform standardpipe is used. Also, they are actual test valueswithout any safety factors added.

At room temperature, a force was applied in the center ofa 1000mm (3'3") length pipe. The force rate was 1kg/min.


A downward force was applied evenly on a shelf at roomtemperature and at a rate of 3kg/min.

Like other materials such as steel, aluminum and wood, the strength ofCreform structures depends on design and assembly techniques. As withall structures, light loads require minimal bracing while heavier loads requirereinforced structures. Tests below done at room temperature with acentralized force of 2kg/min.

Bearing bushings (JB-160-EBL) of roller pipes, bearingpivots (JG-15B-EBL), and holders (JG-13-EBL) are madefrom specially formulated plastic polymer. This uniquecombination assures lubrication and maintenance-freeconveyance of material under normal conditions as wellas in high humidity environments.

This load test was done at 5mm/minute on the roller’scenter. The maximum loading is given at 1/10 thebreaking point for safety purposes.

A. Keep Creform Adhesive away from children. Whennot in use, store Creform Adhesive in a cool, dark andsecure place.

E. Do not intentionally inhale or breathe CreformAdhesive vapors as its organic solvents may beaddicting or harmful to your health.

B. Do not use Creform Adhesive for purposes other thanbonding Creform pipes and joints.

F. If Creform Adhesive comes in contact with the skin itmay cause irritation. Quickly wash the affected areawith soap and warm water.

C. Because Creform Adhesive is flammable, do not usenear open flames, sparks, or high heat. G. Creform Adhesive contains fast-drying solvents

so remember to quickly replace the cap after use.Also, do not mix Creform Adhesive with othersolvents or thinners.

D. Use Creform Adhesive in a well ventilated area.

A. Before applying adhesive, make sure both pipe O.D.and joint I.D. are clean.

C. Apply adhesive uniformly along the area to bebonded. Because the adhesive melts the pipe coatingand plastic joints, make sure it is not forced out alongthe sides.

B. A typical quantity of adhesive required for a singlepipe-to-joint bond is approximately 0.7cc.

D. After gluing, do not move the object for at least 10-15minutes. At room temperature, roughly 80% adhesionstrength is accomplished after 48 hours.

How to install YKR CastersYKR caster is a press fit, tapped into the end of pipe and secured with a self-tapping screw.

1. Loosen nut and removeshaft bolt and wheel fromthe caster fork.

2. Align caster shaft withpipe I.D. and using metalbar (longer than forklength), strike with malletuntil shaft is fully inserted.Drill a pilot hole and insertsmall, self-tapping screw.

3. Reassemble wheel, shaft bolt, and nut tocaster fork.

The BST uni-directional tugger. The BST AGV tugger provides economies, simplicity and flexibility to an AGV system’s installation and operation. The BST drive unit follows a magnetic tape guidepath and easily glides under stationary carts, engaging the cart by extending a catch pin into the cart’s frame. The BST unit then conveys the cart to load/unload points further along the guidepath, retracts the pin to disengage from the cart, and is freed to travel to further points and move additional carts to other strategic locations.

Surface MountedMagnetic Tape

Creform magnetic guidepath tape is available in straight rolls and curved sections. After the floor is cleaned the tape is easily laid down and can be coated with an epoxy finish for added durability. In-ground magnetic straps, 3/8" deep by 1/4" wide, are available for high traffic areas, especially those with fork lift traffic. Guidepath routes have no limitations and are easily routed around immovable obstacles.

BST uni-directional tugger

Easy to install... easy to modify. Creform AGV drive units are an all-in-one package with integrated drive and steering motors, control circuit board and guide sensor. When needs change the, drive units are easily removed and installed on new or modified vehicles providing flexibility and continuous improvement.

Our 42mm pipe provides the strength for transporting heavy components while heavy-duty drive units provide the power to deliver them.

Powered and un-powered roller beds provide efficient load transfers while optical sensors, safety bumpers, flashing lights, audible warning devices are available to help meet AGV safety requirements.

For applications requiring multiple travel routes and/or complex traffic control, a PLC controller can be used in conjunction with position feedback sensors and monitors to provide operational management.

The Creform BST system allows users to move multiple carts of similar designs, or a variety of carts provided the undercarriages feature the BST interface.

The Starter Kit is a simple and economical method to acquaint new users with the Creform Material Handling System. Containing a variety of components in sufficient quantities to construct elementary structures such as carts, racks, flow racks and workstations, the Starter Kit can be individualized by the customer with components

specific to a particular application.The Starter Kit is an ideal,

unintimidating first step to developing employee involvement in the implementation of the Creform System and the resulting continuous improvement. The freedom of design allows an individual employee or teams to quickly and easily create handling devices that will optimize their job function. This optimization can be in several areas, including

productivity, lean manufacturing and agility, ergonomics and economics, JIT inventory levels and lower costs, quality and reductions in floor space consumption.

Starter Kit contents may include (but are not limited to) a range of pipe styles including round and with flat “slide” surfaces, metal joints, conveyor rollers and mounts,

casters, and tools such as a pipe cutter, deburring tool, and wrenches. Creform recommends the initial use of metal joints which provide reusability and flexibility. Plastic joints, however, may be specified in the kit.

rack it ensures the proper parts are put in the proper location. It’s also ideal for kitting areas or sequence centers for matching assembly line requirements. In addition, the system can read a bar code or RF from a manifest, read off a moving assembly line and be part of an internal LAN system.

The types of Pick-To-Light systems currently available are

lights, lights with pushbutton or toggle confirmation, lights with photo sensors, light curtains and LED display. The system is capable of communicating with internal LAN systems for inventory control.

Preventing the wrong part from entering an assembly helps avoid costly line shut downs and rework expenses while reducing non-value added time. The Creform Pick-To-Light System helps obtain consistent performance, even from inexperienced workers while improving quality and productivity. It is a Poka Yoke type error prevention system that can be used at the picking side as well as the loading side of a parts presentation rack.

Easily adaptable to new or existing Creform racking or workstations, the Creform Pick-To-Light System can tell an operator which part to pick as well as the quantity. All sequenced to the line. And it also can tell the operator when a wrong

(200 kg) loading capacity and can be used in temperature settings from 32o to 122o F (0 to 50° C). Modules may be equipped with either ø75mm white nylon swivel casters as standard, or as an option, with ø75mm black rubber wheel swivel casters. Fast and easy caster attachment and changeout is accomplished with a 11/16" (17mm) open end wrench.

For easy carrying, the carts feature molded hand grips with

rounded edges and weigh just 8.4 lbs. (3.8 kg) with the nylon caster, or 9.3 lbs. (4.2 kg) if fitted with the rubber style caster. For convenient, safe and space-saving storage, the carts are stackable in both a uniform lengthwise stack or by alternating directions. Standard color for the main platform is gray, with black rubber pads. Special order colors are green, black, dark red and dark blue.

Creform GN-400 Modular Cart Dollies allow you to easily put wheels on just about anything you need to move regularly or just once. Boxes of components or parts, totes, even furniture or equipment. They also aid in maintaining safe and clean work areas by providing a simple and maneuverable platform for keeping containers off the floor. The innovative design features molded tabs and corresponding slots that fit together, allowing

individual platform modules to be coupled, from either side and/or from either end, to form a cart with a larger base. No tools are required to connect the cart modules and the units are just as easily disconnected for resumption of individualized use as service needs change.

Each Module Cart is manufactured from sturdy polypropylene and measures 26-3/4" (L) x 15-3/4" (W) x 4-1/2"(H) (680 x 400 x 115 mm). Individual units offer 445 lbs.
