data capture in even the most challenging environments to enhance reservoir model accuracy, identify pay zones, increase production and accurately assess reservoir economics.

Full Recovery of High-Quality Core SamplesHigh-quality core samples are essential to fully understanding your reservoir. These samples give you definitive answers regarding the formation’s lithology and mineralogy, flow characteristics, storage capacity, production potential and more. Your geologists and petrophysicists can use the core analysis data to interpret and correlate the well logs. These samples will also allow your reservoir and drilling engineers to fine-tune future drilling and well placement operations in order to target the reservoir’s most productive zones for maximum recovery.

Whether you want to gather large diameter samples while drilling or smaller sidewall cores during wireline operations, we excel at developing customized coring programs designed to optimize rigsite efficiency while delivering 100% recovery of high-quality core samples.

Background An independent oil company required advanced logging for a remote well in Sub-Sahara Africa. One of the client’s main objectives for the logging run was to retrieve high-quality water samples.

Ensuring sample quality for the formation fluid was extremely challenging due to the deep invasion of mud filtrate into the formation and the fact that the filtrate had a very similar salinity to the formation water.

In order to meet the client’s needs, our experts designed a wireline logging suite comprised of our DSL/XMACTM, WGI/HDILTM, CN/ZDL/MreXTM, STAR/CBILTM, VSP, SWC and RCITM services. In order to compensate for the filtrate invasion, a sequential segregated sampling technique was used through the clean-up phase for the water samples. This permitted confident determination of the level of contamination in the individual samples and composition of the clean formation water.

Results A total of 49 pressure tests were performed and 22 fluid samples were collected in three RCI runs

During the clean-out phases for the various samples, 164 gal (622 L) were pumped and we used our SampleView™ service to ensure proper clean-up for all the samples

Two fluid identifications were performed with the SampleView service to confirm results from measured pressure gradients.

The objectives of the training program are to deliver a competent, motivated workforce and provide the African petroleum industry with the highest possible level of service and support as well as quality products in the safest possible environment.

Our commitment to the people of Sub-Sahara Africa does not stop at using regional vendors and hiring and training employees. We are also heavily committed to furthering the local economy and social structure through community investments.

Gabon Community InvestmentIn 2009, Baker Hughes Gabon supported nine students in the completion of their studies. In addition to financial support, all of them spent three months working in the company as part of their study requirement. Four of the students, who were at the final stage of their study for a National diploma, each produced a thesis and successfully passed their oral examinations. The other five students we sponsored were all in the middle of their studies (Three were in master degree programs, and two were studying towards engineering degrees).

A Fresh New Look for Sekondi School for the Deaf in GhanaLed by the country manager, Baker Hughes (Ghana) Limited embarked on an educational support project in the Sekondi/Takoradi Metropolis in Ghana.

The project’s goal was to renovate the local school for the deaf where children study and live. When the Baker Hughes team visited the school they noticed that the facility had deteriorated, and the children’s dormitory lacked mosquito netting and louver blades. Our investment facilitated repainting of the dormitory block, replacing the torn nets and broken blades, and providing 106 double beds and more than 300 mattresses, bed sheets and pillows.

This investment will enhance school life for the students and reduce the reported number of malaria incidents.

Headmaster Osei Bonsu Kuntoh stated “The support from Baker Hughes has changed the face of the school.”

Baker Hughes Ghana plans to stay engaged with Sekondi School for the Deaf in the future.

The support from Baker Hughes
