Hardware and Software Solution
Hardware Solution:
GSM and UMTS boards are installed in the same BBU3900, whereas the RF
modules for GSM are independent of those for UMTS, and transmission of Abis
interface is also independent of that of Iub interface.
Software Solution:
Software is classified into GSM software and UMTS software. The software of
the two modes runs independently on the corresponding hardware in BBU3900,
and the communications exist only between the main control units of the two
modes. The electromechanical components such as the power supply unit,
batteries, fans, and environment monitoring unit are controlled by the common
control unit in a centralized manner.

Software Solution Software architecture in GU co-cabinet base station consists of two
completely separate software systems: GSM software and UMTS software.
On M2000, a GU co-cabinet base station is presented as two interrelated
network elements.

Equipment Management of GU Co-Cabinet Base Station The equipment management module (also referred to as monitoring
software) manages the common components, processes the data sent
by the GBTS and NodeB, and reports alarms related to the common
components according to the preset rules.
The monitoring software provides a refresh mechanism for the configuration of the
common component data sent by the GBTS and the NodeB. For example, if the
GBTS sends the definition of a Boolean value after the NodeB, the definition sent
by the GBTS overwrites and takes effect. In the case that the GBTS and the
NodeB send different data for the configuration of common components, the GU
co-cabinet base station reports alarms.

Equipment Management of GU Co-Cabinet Base Station
The GU co-cabinet base station adopts the preference rule to control the rotation
speed of the common fans. That is, after comparing the data sent by the GBTS
with that sent by the NodeB, the monitoring software will choose the higher speed
to take effect.
The monitoring software reports the dedicated alarms only to the corresponding
side of the base station rather than to the other side. For example, the alarms
generated on the WBBP are reported to the M2000 only through the UMTS
software.
For the alarms of common components, such as fans, power supply unit, and
environment monitoring unit, the monitoring software reports these alarms to both
the GSM software and UMTS software and then to the M2000. Therefore, two
pieces of alarm information of the same common component will be displayed on
the M2000. The main control boards of the GU co-cabinet base station do not
support active/standby switchover.

Hardware Configuration of BTS3900 Configuration Principles of RF Modules:
If the total number of RF modules is not more than six, configure all the RF
modules will in one cabinet. If the total number of RF modules is more than six,
configure all the WRFUs in the extension cabinet (without BBU) and all the
DRFUs in the main cabinet (with BBU) .
In each cabinet, the DRFUs and WRFUs are alternately installed. For example,
if three DRFUs and three WRFUs need to be installed in a cabinet, the DRFUs
are installed in slots 0, 2, and 4 and the WRFUs are installed in slots 1, 3, and 5.
If there are only three RF modules in the extension cabinet, they should be
installed in slots 0, 2, and 4.

Hardware Configuration of BTS3900 Cabling Principles
RF jumpers: RF jumpers are routed inside the cable trough.
In a single cabinet or two cabinets installed side by side, the RF jumpers are routed
inside the cable troughs to the top of the cabinet by default before they are led out of
the cabinet from two sides.
When the cabinets are installed in stack mode, the RF jumpers in the lower cabinet
are routed inside the cable troughs on the two sides of the cabinet, and the RF
jumpers in the upper cabinet are routed upwards and then led out of the cabinet.

Transmission cables: Transmission cables must be routed separately from the -48 V power cables.
Transmission cables are routed along the cable trough on the right of the cabinet
(seen from the front), whereas the -48 V power cables are routed along the cable
trough on the left of the cabinet.
Monitoring signal cables for the DCDU-01 and FAN unit: In a single cabinet, the monitoring signal cables are routed according to the principle of
the shortest path.
When the cabinets are installed in stack mode, the monitoring signal cables are routed
along the cable trough on the right of the cabinet (seen from the front).
When the cabinets are installed side by side, the monitoring signal cables are routed
along the cable trough on the right of the main cabinet (seen from the front) to the top
of the cabinet and then routed downwards along the cable trough on the right of the
extension cabinet.

The usage of cable holes: The round cable holes are used for the cables between APM30 and RF cabinets in
stack mode.
The rectangular cable holes of APM30 cabinets are used for external cables when
the APM30 is installed in stack mode.
The three rectangular cable holes on each side at the bottom of the RF cabinet are
used for feeders, and the rectangular cable hole in the bottom middle of the RF
cabinet is used for CPRI cables, power cables, and signal cables.
If an RF cabinet is installed separately as a remote unit, the round and rectangular
cable holes at the top of the RF cabinet will not be used.

Initial Configuration Principles Configuration of the Common Components:
The common components are the fans, PMU, FMU, EMUA, etc. They are
separately configured for GBTS and NodeB. The configuration data takes effect
in compliance with the following rules: The GU co-cabinet base station adopts the preference rule to control the rotation
speed of the common fans. That is, after comparing the data sent by the GBTS with
that sent by the NodeB, the monitoring software will choose the higher speed to take
effect.
The data that takes effect is the data ultimately configured for GSM or UMTS.
Therefore, the common components should be configured for both the GBTS and the
NodeB, and all the related parameters should be set in accordance with the default
GSM data. (For the NodeB, users can manually configure a template data file
beforehand and create configuration files on the basis of this template.)
If the parameters configured for GBTS and NodeB are inconsistent, both the GBTS
and the NodeB report a configuration conflict alarm.

Initial Configuration Principles Configuration of the Common Resources:
The external input alarms related to the sensors, such as the door status
sensor, water sensor, smoke sensor, and infrared sensor are separately
configured for the GBTS and NodeB. The configuration data takes effect in
compliance with the following rules: The data that takes effect is the data ultimately configured for GSM or UMTS.
Therefore, the external input alarms should be configured for both the GBTS and the
NodeB, and all the related parameters should be set in accordance with the GSM
data. (For the NodeB, users can manually configure a template data file beforehand
and create configuration files on the basis of this template.)
If the parameters configured for the GBTS and NodeB are inconsistent, both the
GBTS and the NodeB report a configuration conflict alarm.

Initial Configuration Principles Configuration of the Transmission and Services:
The transmission and services are separately configured for the GBTS and
NodeB. Configuration of the transmission and services for the GBTS part of the
GU co-cabinet base station is the same as that for the GSM-only base station.
Note that No.0 E1 on the GTMU must be configured, because timeslot 31 of
No.0 E1 is used for the OM channel.
Configuration of the transmission and services for the NodeB part of the GU co-
cabinet base station is the same as that for the UMTS-only base station. The
NodeB supports inter-board IMA. Each IMA group supports a maximum of four
IMA links (E1s).
Configuration of License:
The licenses should be configured separately according to the GSM and UMTS
service capabilities.

Precautions of Site Maintenance Boards:
Both WMPT and GTMU boards do not support active/standby switchover.
The clock source of the GBTS is independent of that of the NodeB. The GBTS and the NodeB extract the clock source from their own trunk cable.
When the working reference clock of the BBU3900 is provided by the WMPT, resetting of the WMPT board will not affect the current and subsequent services of the GBTS, and vice versa.
When the working reference clock of the BBU3900 is provided by the WMPT, unplugging and plugging the WMPT board will disrupt the current services of the GBTS but will not affect the subsequent services of the GBTS , and vice versa.
The operation and maintenance of the RF modules on the GBTS and NodeB can be performed separately. The operation and maintenance on the GBTS or NodeB do not affect the running of its counterpart.

Precautions of Site Maintenance Common Resources: The common resources are jointly controlled and managed by
the GBTS and NodeB. When performing the operation and maintenance of the common resources, pay attention to the following items:
The configuration data of the common resources must be synchronously modified on the GBTS and NodeB.
The alarms are simultaneously reported to the GBTS and NodeB.
Common Components: The common components are jointly controlled and managed by the GBTS and NodeB. When performing the operation and maintenance of the common components, pay attention to the following items:
Both the GBTS and the NodeB manage the external equipment. Therefore, when you reset the GBTS, the external equipment will also be reset and the NodeB will report an alarm indicating that the external equipment is abnormal. After the restart of the external equipment, the external equipment abnormal alarm will be cleared on the NodeB. The same problem occurs on the GBTS if the NodeB is reset.
Transmission and Services: The operation and maintenance of the transmission and services on the GBTS and NodeB
are performed separately. The operation and maintenance on the GBTS or NodeB will not affect the running of its counterpart.
