PENGUJIAN BAHAN AGREGAT KASAR
1.1. PENGUJIAN BERAT JENIS DAN
PENYERAPAN AGREGAT KASAR (Specific Gravity
and Absorption of Coarse Aggregate).
1.1.1. Tujuan
Pemeriksaan ini bertujuan untuk menentukan berat jenis kering oven
(bulk specific gravity), berat jenis kering permukaan jenuh (saturated
surface dry), berat jenis semu (apparent specific gravity) dan penyerapan air
(water absorpsi) dari agregat kasar.
1.1.2. Teori Ringkas
Berat jenis agregat adalah perbandingan antara berat volume agregat
dan berat volume air. Besar jenis agregat penting dalam perencanaan
campuran agregat dengan aspal keras, umumnya direncanakan berdasarkan
perbandingan berat dan juga untuk menentukan banyak pori. Agregat
dengan berat jenis yang kecil mempunyai volume yang besar sehingga berat
yang sama membutuhkan jumlah aspal yang banyak disamping itu agregat
dengan kadar pori yang besar membutuhkan jumlah aspal yang banyak.
Ada 3 berat jenis yang dapat ditentukan berdasarkan manual
PB 0202-76 atau AASHTO T85-81.
A. Berat jenis kering oven (bulk specific gravity)
Berat jenis kering oven ialah berat jenis yang memperhitungkan
seluruh volume pori yang ada (volume pori yang dapat diresapi air dan
volume pori yang tidak dapat diresapi air).

B. Berat jenis kering permukaan jenuh (saturated surface dry)
Berat jenis kering permukaan jenuh ialah berat jenis yang
memperhitungkan volume pori yang hanya dapat diresapi oleh aspal
ditambah dengan volume partikel.

C. Berat jenis semu (apparent specific gravity)
Berat jenis semu ialah berat jenis yang memperhitungkan volume
partikel saja tanpa memperhitungkan volume pori yang dapat dilewati
oleh air.

Penyerapan air adalah perbandingan perubahan berat agregat
karena penyerapan air oleh pori-pori dengan berat agregat pada kondisi

A. Alat yang digunakan
a. Keranjang kawat dengan ukuran 3,35 mm atau 2,36 mm (No.6 atau No.8)
dengan kapasitas kira-kira 5 kg.
b. Tempat air dengan kapasitas dan bentuk yang sesuai untuk pemeriksaan.
c. Timbangan dengan kapasitas 5 kg dan ketelitian 0,1 % dari berat contoh
yang ditimbang dan dilengkapi dengan alat penggantung keranjang.
d. Oven yang dilengkapi dengan pengatur suhu untuk memanasi sampai
(110 ± 5)°C.
e. Saringan 3/4”, No. 4.
f. Kain lap.
g. Talam
B. Bahan yang digunakan
a) Benda uji adalah agregat yang lolos pada saringan 3/4” dan tertahan pada
saringan No. 4 diperoleh dari alat pemisah contoh atau cara perempat
sebanyak 2500 gram.
b) Air Suling.

Menyiapkan bahan :
Agregat yang lolos saringan 3/4" dan tertahan pada saringan No. 4 diperoleh dari alat pemisah contoh sebanyak 2500 gram.Air suling
Mencuci benda uji untuk menghilangkan debu atau bahan-bahan lain yang melekat pada permukaan agregat.Mengeringkan benda uji dalam oven pada suhu 105C sampai beratnya tetap.

nMendinginkan benda uji pada suhu kamar selama 1-3 jam, kemudian menimbang dengan timbangan ketelitian 0,5 gram.
Merendam benda uji dalam air pada suhu kamar selama 24 4 jam.Mengeluarkan benda uji dari dalam air dan mengeringkannya dengan kain lap sampai selaput air pada permukaan hilang, untuk butiran yang besar harus satu persatu. Menimbang benda uji dalam keranjang kawat (lalu mengguncangkan keranjang untuk mengeluarkan udara yang tersekap dan menentukan beratnya dalam air. Mengukur suhu air untuk penyesuaian perhitungan pada suhu standar (25C).A

B. Uraian Prosedur
a. Mencuci benda uji untuk menghilangkan debu atau bahan-bahan lain
yang melekat pada permukaan.
b. Mengeringkan benda uji dalam oven pada suhu 105°C sampai beratnya
tetap.
c. Mendinginkan benda uji pada suhu kamar selama 1-3 jam, kemudian
menimbangnya dengan timbangan ketelitian 0,5 gram.
d. Merendam benda uji dalam air pada suhu kamar selama 24 ± 4 jam.
e. Mengeluarkan benda uji dari dalam air, dan mengeringkannya dengan
kain lap sampai selaput air pada permukaan hilang, untuk butiran yang
besar harus satu persatu.
f. Menimbang benda uji dalam keranjang, mengguncangkan keranjang
untuk mengeluarkan udara yang tersekap dan beratnya ditentukan
dalam air. Mengukur suhu air untuk penyesuaian perhitungan pada suhu
standar (25°C).

1.2. INDEKS KEPIPIHAN DAN KELONJONGAN AGREGAT
(Flakiness and Elongation Index).
1.2.1. Tujuan
Pemeriksaan ini dimaksudkan untuk mengetahui bentuk dari agregat
yang akan dipergunakan pada proses pekerjaan jalan.
1.2.2. Teori Ringkas
Partikel agregat berbentuk pipih dapat merupakan hasil dari mesin
pemecah batu ataupun memang merupakan sifat dari agregrat tersebut yang
jika dipecahkan cenderung berbentuk pipih. Agregat pipih yaitu agregat
yang lebih tipis dari 0,6 kali diameter rata-rata. Indeks kepipihan (flakiness
index) adalah berat total agregat yang lolos slot dibagi dengan berat total
agregat yang tertahan pada ukuran nominal tertentu.
Agregat berbentuk pipih mudah pecah pada waktu pencampuran,
pemadatan ataupun akibat beban lalu lintas, oleh karena itu banyaknya
agregat pipih ini dibatasi dengan menggunakan nilai indeks kepipihan yang
disyaratkan.
Agregat berbentuk lonjong dapat ditemui di sungai-sungai atau
bekas dari endapan sungai. Agregat dikatakan lonjong jika ukuran
terpanjangnya > 1,8 kali diameter rata-rata. Indeks kelonjongan (elongation

index) adalah perbandingan dalam persen dari berat lonjong yang tertahan
terhadap agregat yang tertahan.

Dari hasil dan analisa sampel agregat kasar di Laboratorium
Rekayasa Transportasi Jurusan Sipil Fakultas Teknik Universitas
KELOMPOK XIII ( Nurul,Nhieta,Ismail,Taufik) I - 19
Hasanuddin, diperoleh hasil rata-rata :
A. Indeks kepipihan = 5,93 %
B. Indeks kelonjongan = 43,71%
Benda uji yang digunakan dalam pemeriksaan indeks kepipihan
agregat kasar telah memenuhi spesifikasi (lihat pada Tabel 1.4), indeks
kepipihan dan kelonjongan yang disyaratkan maksimal 25 %.

1.3. PENGUJIAN KEAUSAN AGREGAT KASAR
1.3.1. Tujuan
Pemeriksaan ini bertujuan untuk menentukan ketahanan agregat
KELOMPOK XIII ( Nurul,Nhieta,Ismail,Taufik) I - 21
kasar terhadap keausan dengan menggunakan mesin Los Angeles. Keausan
dinyatakan dengan perbandingan antara berat bahan aus lolos saringan No.
12 terhadap berat semula, dalam persen.
1.3.2. Teori Ringkas
Ketahanan agregat terhadap penghancuran (degradasi) diperiksa
dengan menggunakan percobaan Abrasi Los Angeles (abration los angeles
test).
Nilai tinggi menunjukkan banyaknya benda uji yang hancur akibat
putaran alat yang mengakibatkan tumbukan dan gesekan antar partikel dan
dengan bola-bola baja, nilai abrasi > 40 % menunjukkan agregat tidak
mempunyai kekerasan cukup untuk digunakan sebagai material lapisan
perkerasan. Nilai abrasi < 40 %, baik sebagai bahan lapis permukaan dan
lapis pondasi atas. Nilai abrasi < 50 %, dapat dipergunakan sebagai bahan
lapisan lebih bawah.

1.3.3. Alat dan Bahan yang Digunakan
A. Peralatan Percobaan
a. Mesin Los Angeles.

Mesin terdiri dari silinder baja tertutup pada kedua sisinya dengan
diameter 71 cm (28”) panjang dalam 50 cm (20”). Silinder bertumpu
pada dua poros pendek yang tak menerus dan berputar pada poros
mendatar. Silinder berlubang untuk memasukkan benda uji. Penutup
lubang terpasang rapat sehingga permukaan dalam silinder tidak
terganggu. Pada bagian dalam silinder terdapat bilah baja melintang
penuh setinggi 8,9 cm (3,56“).
b. Saringan No.12, 3/4”, 1/2”, 3/8”, dan saringan –
saringan lainnya seperti tercantum dalam tabel 1.7.
c. Timbangan, dengan ketelitian 5 gram.
d. Bola-bola baja dengan diameter rata-rata 4,68 cm (1
7/8”) dari berat masing – masing antara 390 gram
sampai 445 gram.
e. Oven yang dilengkapi dengan pengatur suhu untuk
memanasi sampai (100 ± 5)°C.
B. Benda uji
a. Berat dan gradasi benda uji sesuai daftar pada tabel
1.7.
b. Benda uji dibersihkan dan dikeringkan dalam oven
pada suhu (110 ± 5)°C sampai berat tetap.

1.3.4. Prosedur Percobaan
A. Diagram Alir Prosedur
Benda uji dan bola-bola baja dimasukkan ke dalam mesin Los Angeles.Memutar mesin dengan kecepatan 30 sampai 33 rpm sebanyak 500 putaran
Setelah selesai pemutaran, mengeluarkan benda uji dari mesin kemudian menyaring dengan saringan No. 12. Mencuci bersih butiran yang tertahan di atasnya, lalu mengeringkannya dalam oven dengan suhu (110 5)C sampai berat tetap.

1.3.8 Kesimpulan
Dari hasil dan analisa sampel agregat kasar di Laboratorium
Rekayasa Transportasi Jurusan Sipil Fakultas Teknik Universitas
Hasanuddin, diperoleh hasil keausan rata-rata sebesar 18,69 %.
Benda uji yang digunakan dalam pemeriksaan keausan agregat kasar
telah memenuhi spesifikasi (lihat pada Tabel 1.8), prosentase keausan yang
disyaratkan maksimal 40 %.

1.4. ANALISA SARINGAN AGREGAT KASAR (Shieve Analysis).
1.4.1. Tujuan
Pemeriksaan ini dimaksudkan untuk menentukan pembagian butir
(gradasi) agregat kasar dengan menggunakan saringan.
1.4.2. Teori Ringkas
Gradasi atau distribusi partikel-partikel berdasarkan ukuran agregat
merupakan hal yang penting dalam menentukan stabilitas perkerasan.
Gradasi agregat mempengaruhi besarnya rongga antar butir yang akan
menentukan stabilitas dan kemudahan dalam proses pelaksanaan.
Gradasi agregat diperoleh dari hasil analisa saringan dengan
menggunakan 1 set saringan dimana yang paling kasar diletakkan di atas dan
yang paling halus diletakkan paling bawah. Jika agregat kasar itu “bersih”,
tidak / sedikit sekali mengandung butiran halus dapat digunakan analisa
kering. Berdasarkan besar partikel-partikel agregat kasar, agregat > 4.75 mm
menurut ASTM atau > 2 mm AASHTO.
Gradasi agregat dapat dibedakan atas :
A. Gradasi seragam (uniform graded).
Gradasi seragam (uniform graded) adalah agregat dengan ukuran
yang hampir sama/sejenis atau mengandung agregat halus yang sedikit
jumlahnya sehingga tidak dapat mengisi rongga antar agregat. Gradasi
seragam disebut juga gradasi terbuka. Agregat dengan gradasi seragam
akan menghasilkan lapisan perkerasan dengan sifat permeabilitas tinggi,
stabilitas kurang, berat volume kecil.
B. Gradasi rapat (dense graded).
Gradasi rapat (dense graded) merupakan campuran agregat kasar dan
halus dalam porsi yang berimbang, sehingga dinamakan juga agregat

bergradasi baik (well graded). Agregat dengan gradasi rapat akan
menghasilkan lapisan perkerasan dengan sifat, stabililitas tinggi, berat
volume besar.
C. Gradasi buruk/jelek (poorly graded).
Gradasi buruk/jelek (poorly graded) adalah campuran agregat yang
tidak memenuhi 2 kategori di atas, agregat bergradasi buruk yang umum
digunakan untuk lapisan perkerasan lentur yaitu gradasi celah (gap
graded), yaitu campuran agregat dengan 1 fraksi hilang atau 1 fraksi
sedikit sekali, atau dikenal dengan agregat bergradasi senjang.

Dari pemeriksaan dan analisa sampel agregat kasar di Laboratorium
Rekayasa Transportasi Jurusan Sipil Fakultas Teknik Universitas
Hasanuddin, maka diperoleh hasil prosentase lolos :
Saringan 1/2” = 100,00 %
Saringan 3/8” = 74,76 %
Saringan No.4 = 17,54 %
Saringan No.8 = 11,45 %
Saringan No.30 = 7,06 %

Dari hasil di atas dapat disimpulkan bahwa gradasi agregat kasar
masuk dalam batasan gradasi III pada penggabungan agregat (lihat Tabel
1.10), sehingga agregat kasar tersebut dapat digunakan untuk bahan
pekerjaan kontruksi jalan.

1.5. PENGUJIAN KELEKATAN AGREGAT TERHADAP ASPAL
1.5.1. Tujuan
Pemeriksaan ini bertujuan untuk menentukan besarnya kelekatan
agregat terhadap aspal melalui percobaan di Laboratorium.
1.5.2. Teori Ringkas
Kelekatan agregat terhadap aspal adalah prosentase luas permukaan
batuan tertutup aspal terhadap keseluruhan luas permukaan agregat.
Faktor yang mempengaruhi lekatnya agregat dan aspal dapat
dibedakan menjadi 2 bagian yaitu :
A. Sifat mekanis yang tergantung dari :
a. Pori-pori dan absorpsi.
b. Bentuk dan tekstur permukaan.
c. Ukuran butiran.
B. Sifat kimiawi dari agregat.
Agregat berpori berguna untuk menyerap aspal sehingga ikatan antara
aspal dan agregat baik. Tetapi terlalu banyak pori dapat mengakibatkan

terlalu banyak aspal yang terserap yang berakibat lapisan aspal menjadi
tipis.
Agregat berbentuk kubus dan kasar lebih baik mengikat aspal dari
pada agregat berbentuk bulat dan halus. Permukaan yang kasar akan
memberikan ikatan dengan aspal lebih baik dari pada agregat dengan
permukaan licin.
Disamping hal tersebut di atas, daya lekat aspal dipengaruhi juga
oleh sifat agregat terhadap air. Grani dan batuan yang mengandung silica
merupakan agregat bersifat hydrophilic yaitu agregat yang senang terhadap
air. Agregat tersebut tidak baik digunakan untuk lapisan perkerasan
beraspal, karena mudah terjadi stripping yaitu lepasnya lapis aspal dari
agregat akibat pengaruh air.
Sebaliknya agregat seperti dioritandesit disebut agregat
hydrophobic, adalah agregat yang tidak mudah terikat dengan air sehingga
ikatan antara aspal dan agregat cukup baik dan stripping yang terjadi kecil
sekali.
Pemeriksaan agregat untuk daya lekatnya terhadap aspal dilakukan
dengan percobaan stripping mengikuti PB 0205-76 atau AASHTO T182-82.
Kelekatan agregat terhadap aspal sangat berpengaruh terhadap
kekuatan dari campuran material (mix design) dalam pembuatan jalan dan
sebagainya.
1.5.3. Alat dan Bahan yang Digunakan

2. Timbangan dengan kapasitas 200 gram dan ketelitian 0,1 gram.

5. Termometer.
6. Air suling dengan pH 6,0 – 7,0.

tertahan pada saringan 6,3 mm (1/4”), sebanyak 100 gram.
b. Mencuci agregat dengan air suling. Kemudian mengeringkan
pada suhu 135-149o C hingga beratnya tetap.
c. Memasukkan sampel ke dalam wadah. Memanaskan wadah
yang berisi sampel yang telah diberi aspal sebanyak 50,5 ±
0,2 gr, selama 1 jam dalam oven. Mengaduk sampel selama ±
2 menit.
d. Memasukkan adukan aspal dan agregat tadi ke dalam oven
pada suhu 60ºC selama 2 jam. Setelah 2 jam, mengeluarkan
adukan beserta wadahnya dari oven dan mengaduknya lagi
hingga dingin (suhu ruang).
e. Memindahkan sampel yang sudah terselaput aspal ke dalam
tabung gelas kimia 600 ml. Segera menambahkan air suling
sebanyak 400 ml dan membiarkannya pada suhu ruang
selama 16 hingga 18 jam.
f. Memeriksa luas permukaan sampel yang sudah terselaput
aspal dengan memperkirakan luas permukaan sampel yang

terselimuti telah aspal.

1.5.7 Analisa Data
Dari hasil pengujian diperoleh nilai kelekatan aspal > 95% sebesar
100% ,sehingga diperoleh nilai kelekatan rata-rata agregat terhadap aspal
sebasar > 95 %.
1.5.8 Kesimpulan
Dari hasil pemeriksaan kelekatan agregat terhadap aspal di
Laboratorium Rekayasa Transportasi Jurusan Sipil Fakultas Teknik
Universitas Hasanuddin, diperoleh nilai kelekatan rata-rata sebesar > 95 %.
Benda uji yang digunakan dalam pemeriksaan kelekatan agregat
terhadap aspal memenuhi spesifikasi (lihat pada Tabel 1.13), nilai kelekatan
yang disyaratkan minimal 95 %.

1.6. PENGUJIAN KEKUATAN AGREGAT TERHADAP TUMBUKAN
( Aggregate Impact Value ).
1.6.1. Tujuan
Pemeriksaan ini bertujuan untuk menentukan nilai kekuatan agregat
terhadap tumbukan.
1.6.2. Teori Ringkas
Salah satu metode yang dikembangkan untuk menguji kekuatan
batuan terhadap beban lalu lintas adalah dengan melakukan simulasi
pemberian beban terhadap suatu sampel agregat dengan cara ditumbuk
(impact). Prisipnya adalah sampel agregat ditumbuk dengan alat khusus
selama beberapa waktu. Agregat yang hancur kemudian ditimbang dan
dibandingkan dengan berat semula sampel. Perbandingan ini merupakan

nilai dari aggregate impact value (AIV).
Proses penumbukan ini adalah proses dasar pembuatan agregat di
aggregat crushing plant. Biasanya beban tumbukan ini dikombinasikan
dengan beban tekanan (crushing) baik dari arah lateral maupun aksial.
Beban tumbukan yang diterima oleh agregat pada konstruksi jalan dimulai
dari aggregat crushing plant. Kemudian di laboratorium selain melalui
pengujian ini juga pada pembuatan campuran aspal dan agregat dalam mix
design.

2. Uraian Prosedur
a. Memasukkan sampel dalam cup (cylindrial steel cup)
sedemikian rupa hingga tidak melebihi tinggi cup (50 mm).
Memasukkan sampel ke dalam dengan sedikit menekan lalu
memadatkannya dengan tangan.
b. Meletakkan aggregate impact machine pada lantai dasar yang
keras.
c. Meletakkan cup berisi sampel pada tempatnya dan
memastikan letak cup sudah baik dan tidak akan bergeser
akibat tumbukan palu.
d. Mengatur ketinggian palu agar jarak antara bidang kontak
palu dengan permukaan sampel 380 ± 5mm.
e. Melepaskan pengunci palu dan biarkan palu jatuh bebas ke
sampel. Mengangkat palu pada posisi semula dan melepas

Dari hasil pemeriksaan Aggregate impact value (AIV) agregat kasar
di Laboratorium Rekayasa Transportasi Jurusan Sipil Fakultas Teknik
Universitas Hasanuddin, diperoleh nilai Aggregate impact value (AIV)
rata-rata sebesar 8,66 %.
Spesifikasi mengisyaratkan nilai AIV < 10% baik untuk lapisan
permukaan, sedangkan nilai AIV > 35% tidak baik untuk lapisan
permukaan. Jadi, benda uji yang digunakan dalam pemeriksaan AIV baik
digunakan sebagai lapisan permukaan.
