OverviewThe National Association of Black Accountants, Inc. (NABA) hosts four annual student conferences in the Central, Eastern, Southern and Western regions of the United States. The conferences are attended by students pursuing undergraduate and graduate de-grees in accounting, finance, economics, and general business. The Southern Region Student Conference (SRSC), is held annually in Atlanta, Georgia, hosting over 400 students from approximately 60 colleges and universities.

States RepresentedStudents attending the conference held in Atlanta, come from schools located in eight states in the Southern region. Often, students who are seeking to relocate to major cities in the south attend the conference. Ninety percent of students attending schools in the region, indicate they are willing to relocate to cities outside of the region.

Classifications and MajorsStudent membership and conference attendance is open to students from freshman to graduate school. The students are pursuing bachelor’s and mas-ter’s degrees in accounting, finance, economics and general business, The graphs below depict the largest population of our students majoring in ac-counting who attend the SRSC during their junior and senior year of college. 12 percent of the student population are graduate students pursing masters of science degrees in finance, accountancy, information systems audit and controls and MBA’s with various concentrations. Master’s degree programs assist students in obtaining the required accounting hours to take the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) exam.

Grade Point Average (GPA)The average GPA of students attending the 2015 SRSC is 3.34 out of 4.0. The chart below represents the GPAs by group and the percentage of students in each group. Many students work both on campus and off campus jobs but continue to show their commitment to their educational and career pursuits by maintaining a competitive GPA.

GenderThe growth in the population of male attendees majoring in accounting and finance has in-creased, however, the female population represents 64 percent of the conference attendees.
