Hello  and  welcome  to  our  first  annual  report!

2011/12 has been an amazing year. In November, we started our collaboration

with oikos International and shortly after, in March, we were granted full

membership to represent Copenhagen. With oikos we have been able to expand

our network and share knowledge with other chapters. Moreover, our members

got to attend conferences in Spain, Germany and Switzerland. 360° has also

been able to increase the collaboration with other student organizations at CBS

through the CBS Network. One practical example of this was the one-week

nextLead conference on responsible leadership that was arranged jointly by

several student organizations. We are proud that more than 300 students

participated in the event and engaged in the discussions. The conference ended

with a party where we collected over 18 000 DKK for the NGO Care.

A big success in 2011 was our nominations for the CSR Awards in the Student

and the Communication category. Being considered for the awards by the

sustainability community was not only a great honour, but also shows the impact

we have made in the field. Over the past two years, 360° has professionalized

the organizational structure to be able to lift and coordinate more tasks. We will

continue our efforts and improvements because we believe this is the right path

to be the gamechanger we want to be.

We want to thank the CSR centre and the Sustainability Platform for supporting

us, as well as all the other inspiring CBS-students initiatives! We are looking

forward to our newly started partnership with CSE to promote social

entrepreneurship.

With this report we want to present the achievements

of the academic year 2011/2012 as well as challenges

that we faced and what lie ahead of us. We appreciate

any comments or suggestions that you may have after

reading the following pages. Enjoy your reading!

Vision,  Mission  &  Values

Vision

We want 360° to be a game-changer within the sustainability field.

Mission

The mission of 360° is to strengthen its community platform in means of building

comprehensive frameworks of interaction in which students, business

professionals, and other experts can meet, share knowledge, and build

competencies in terms of:

1. Environmental, social, and financial sustainability in companies and organizations

2. Ethical and responsible organizational practices, competencies, and leadership

3. Opportunities in the developing world for the private and public sector

The main activity for 360° to do this is by organizing projects in close

collaboration with its key stakeholders. This is done by engaging students in self-

driven and self-initiated activities in collaboration with a broad range of players

within business, NGOs, universities, media, and public institutions.

Values

Inclusion: We do our best to include new and existing members into the

organization and strategy development.

Accountability: We talk the walk and walk the talk.

Courage: We take initiative and encourage members to challenge

existing systems.

Page 6: 360 Students for Sustainability Annual Report 2011/2012

Our  Organizational  Structure

360° is a project-based organization with groups for supporting functions such as

communication, HR and finance. The projects are divided into three different

focus areas, namely Campus, Business and Entrepreneurship. Below you can

read about the support functions and the different initiatives.

Secretariat

The secretariat consists of the chairperson and the group managers of

communication, finance, human resources, Develop Prize, 360°|Lab, Company

visits and 360°|Academy. Its main function is to ensure the implementation of

the strategy.

Page 7: 360 Students for Sustainability Annual Report 2011/2012

Marketing  and  Communication

The Marketing and Communication team currently consists of the four subgroups

Social Media & Website, Marketing, Newsletter and IT, which are formed by

seven people in total. Besides the promotion of the several events via various

channels such as Facebook, our website, 360° Newsletter, the CBS intranet,

screens and billboards on campus, the team has worked on the improvement of

the internal communication within 360°. The communication platform Podio was

introduced in order to simplify communication processes, task allocation and

filesharing through a virtual volunteer community.

Human  Resources

Throughout this academic year we have had several recruitment days,

sometimes in connection with events happening at campus. We have been able

to reach out to more students and stakeholders, thereby gaining publicity and

building awareness in the local environment. In turn, this has proven to attract

new, motivated and highly competent members. Consistency is a challenge for

any volunteer based organization, as well as ensuring commitment from our

members who are very active and ambitious, which naturally limits the time for

extracurricular activities. We have currently about 30 members who actively

participate in the different groups and events.

Finance

The main activity for the finance team this year has been mapping out possible

sources of funding as well as to standardize applications and the application

process. We managed to receive sponsorships for marketing material and our

homepage as well as food and drinks to our events. Our current financial status

is depicted in the figure below.

360°  Projects

Develop  Prize

Develop Prize has had a turbulent year where Venture Cup, a start-up

competition based at CBS, started a competition for social entrepreneurship with

a price we could not compete with. This resulted in a year where Develop Prize

had a complete transformation in terms of concept and operations. Develop Prize

has still supported social entrepreneurs throughout the year. However, there was

no final event and no winner was declared. Instead of trying to compete with

Venture Cup, Develop Prize is aligning its events with them so our participants

can participate in both competitions. We no longer compete on the monetary

value of our price, but rather on unique experience to go visit the country where

the entrepreneur has a business plan. This trip is coordinated with Develop Prize,

who will send one or two members to document the trip and to encourage the

other entrepreneurs back home.

In addition, Develop Prize has forged an alliance with the social entrepreneurship

minor at CBS. This gives us direct access to the social entrepreneurs in this class,

and we can help these students realize their business plans.

Develop Prize has received funding for a new webpage which will act as a

gathering point for all projects Develop Prize is a part of. This page will solve one

of the major constraints Develop Prize has had during the year, which is getting

social entrepreneurs to submit business plans. The webpage will future an

Page 9: 360 Students for Sustainability Annual Report 2011/2012

interactive way to upload a business plan, which guides the participant through

the process. It also allows participants to enter without a complete business plan,

and allow Develop Prize to see where we can have the greatest impact on all the

ventures.

Our long term plan is to take advantage of the possibilities the oikos network

offers and introduce the concept of Develop Prize to other oikos universities.

Creating a website that is simple and

easy to replicate will add value the

more universities participate for

everyone participating. Our concept is

simple, students submit business plans

for social ventures in developing

countries, Develop Prize pushes

students to think, create and develop.

360°|Academy

360° Academy is the newest project initiated by 360° and will be launched for

the first time fall 2012. We work towards exposing students to sustainability, and

change their mindset so that future businesses might not only focus on profit

maximizing but in a larger degree maximizing value for society.

To achieve our objective we will facilitate learning by organizing an extra-

curricular elective for students all over Copenhagen. In total, the elective

consists of five sessions, offering a theoretical introduction and the newest

research within the field, facilitated by CBS or external professors. In addition we

are inviting companies to present their sustainability practice, their challenges

and "hands-on" experiences. By the end of the elective, students will be given

the opportunity to apply the knowledge they have attained by solving and

discussing a case-problem in collaboration with a company.

Company  Visits

In company visits, we collaborate with some of Denmark’s biggest companies to

come and visit dem on site and hear about their work with sustainability and

responsibility. In 2011/12 we arranged four visits.

Better  Place

We started off the fall semester with a visit to the sustainable mobility company

Better Place at their visitor centre in Hellerup. In an exciting and comfortable

atmosphere the participants got to know how Better Place tries to optimize the

driving experience and at the same time minimize environmental impact and

cost. The visit was topped off with a test ride in one of their electric cars,

convincing everybody that sustainable transportation is the way to go!

Top  Toy

In the middle of the sleepy town Tune lays the playful and colorful headquarters

of the toy company TOP-TOY. Friendly employees took us through the company’s

offices and its different departments, almost losing a couple of students during

our tour around the life-size Toys "R" Us-store. Luckily, they were found for the

ensuing presentation about TOP-TOY’s sustainability work, touching upon issues

such as global supply chain management, sustainable packaging and child labour

in toy production. Leaving with unique insights and reflections, the participants

thought it was well worth travelling to this toy company far, far away in the land

of Tune.

Danske  Bank

In the beginning of March, the Corporate Responsibility Department at Danske

Bank welcomed us to their headquarters in central Copenhagen. The group of

students were given a thorough introduction to their many efforts to promote

and encourage responsibility, ranging from sustainability reporting to climate

credit investments. The Danske Bank representatives also engaged the students

by presenting some dilemmas they face in their work, challenging them further

by playing the UN Global Compact dilemma game. In sum, a very informative,

interactive and fun company visit!

Page 11: 360 Students for Sustainability Annual Report 2011/2012

Dong  Energy

In April, DONG Energy welcomed a small group of students to their headquarter,

where they were given a comprehensive introduction to the company’s

sustainability strategies. The participants got the chance to speak to business

analysts about the energy industry in general and the slow transition towards

renewable energies. Another speaker was the Head of the DONG Energy CSR

department, discussing the particular CSR challenges facing the company in the

coal industry. The visit was a huge success, judged not only on the interesting

content, but according to our survey 70% of the participants said the visit had

increased their interest in sustainability issues!

360°  Fairtrade

As the first university in Scandinavia, CBS received the title of a Fairtrade

University in November 2011. This meant that we should have at least five

Fairtrade - products in the canteen.

All coffee, tea and sugar served at

conferences and meetings should be

Fairtrade certified. The institution

should also host two events yearly

to inform about the concept and the

reasons of the Fairtrade Labelling

Organization. 360° was a vital part

of this progress, as both initiators

and organizers.

Page 12: 360 Students for Sustainability Annual Report 2011/2012

360°|Lab

During the academic year, the many events organized by 360° were strategically

organized into different segments. In this connection, 360°|Lab was created

containing the various ad-hoc events. 360°|Lab is very much representing the

sandbox environment of 360°. Here, new initiatives and ideas surface to be

supported and developed with the potential to become a core activity of 360°.

NGO  meets  Business

More important than ever, yet still an up- and coming field: NGO-Business-

partnerships. On February 8th, 360° - Students for Sustainability and 180

Degrees Consulting organized a conference for students to find out about the

opportunities, challenges, current developments and future perspectives in this

field. Different organizations provided the audience with perspective from both

NGOs and businesses, and included Microsoft, Copenhagen Business School and

Red Cross. The following lively debate was moderated by professor Mette

Morsing from CBS Centre for Corporate Social Responsibility.

Sustainability  Next  in  China  and  Denmark

In collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, 360° hosted a seminar at

CBS on sustainability in China and Denmark. Friis Arne Petersen, Ambassador of

Denmark to China, presented ‘what to expect and how to respond’ in relation to

macroeconomic tendencies in China and how sustainability is aligned with

business in China. Next, Anna Lise Mortensen Grandjean, Director at the Danish

Business Council for Sustainable Development, presented sustainability trends

and challenges in a Danish business context. The seminar was successfully

completed with around 120 participants. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and 360°

were both very satisfied with the collaboration and outcome of this event.

360°|Film  Club

Unfortunately, this year the firm club took only place two times during the first

semester. Although we received a lot of good feedback for the first two movie

presentations, the Film Club got put on hold due to a missing concept for

funding. The movie licenses turned out to be too pricy and would restrict other

Page 13: 360 Students for Sustainability Annual Report 2011/2012

projects of 360°. We hope that in the next year we find a way to solve this

matter and can continue with this project.

Green  Week

In October 2011 the campus at Solbjerg Plads was transformed into a centre of

green ideas. Green Week offered a range of different seminars, activities, and

speeches open for participation in order to create awareness and debate among

students on environmental and sustainability topics. Each day of the week was

assigned to a certain theme, which made it possible for students to inform

themselves on topics such as fashion and beauty, food and beverage, and waste

and water. Having taken a major part in organizing the week together with CBS

Green Office, 360° was represented in the main hall with different activities.

Here, several 360° volunteers were ready to engage and discuss the daily topics

with curious students.

Sustainable  Christmas  Bazaar

For the second year in a row, 360° hosted the sustainable Christmas bazaar at

CBS. The aim of the bazaar was to make students and others at CBS become

aware of alternative solutions to

the traditional consumption

patterns during Christmas. Just

like the previous year this was

organized around a flea market.

Students were invited to sell

second hand clothes and items.

Also, NGOs such as Red Cross,

1010, Forests of the World, and

others were invited to present their alternative solutions to traditional Christmas

gifts. This event was positively received by many at CBS and a good atmosphere

was created - especially due to the great smell of cookies, cakes, and coffee

enjoyed to the sounds of jingle bells and hohohos... Last but not least, Santa

Claus (x 2) made this moment unforgettable!

Page 14: 360 Students for Sustainability Annual Report 2011/2012

nextLead

The nextLead - Responsibility week took place for the first time this year. 360°

Students for Sustainability collaborated with the student organizations Net

Impact, AIESEC, CEMS and 180° Consulting to organize the event at CBS. The

five days each focused on an individual topic - start, create, link, elevate

combine. As this year’s topic was responsibility in business and leadership we

managed to organize some very attractive key speakers. A summarizing video of

the nextLead week can be seen at nextLead’s youtube channel.

On friday night everybody could enjoy a great party at the Tietgenkollegiet. The

profit was donated to Care, a NGO. The party raised the impressive amount of

18200 DKK. It was a great opportunity to gather the resources of so many

student organizations and to jointly launch such an event. We look forward to

repeat the event next year.

BoP  Innovation  Day

On October 11, 2011, 25 selected CBS students got the chance to take part in

the BoP Innovation Day with Novo Nordisk, where they worked on an interesting

Bottom of the Pyramid business case taking place in Cambodia. The students

were separated into different teams and worked on solutions for the given case

during an intense and innovative workshop phase. Afterwards, every group

presented its findings to a jury which evaluated the different business solutions

and announced a worthy winner at the end of the day. The event was a great

success and got very positive feedback, which is why we would like to organize a

BoP Innovation Day every semester.

Page 15: 360 Students for Sustainability Annual Report 2011/2012

360°  Crossing  Borders

The most important strategic decision of this academic year was the decision to

become a full member of the international organization oikos. The Sustainability

Platform made it possible for 360° to attend the following meetings: FutureLab in

St. Gallen, Switzerland, Winterschool in Berlin, Germany and Spring meeting in

Barcelona, Spain. For the future, we really look forward to see the joint

development of oikos and 360° as we can see that it can be highly valuable for

us as a student organization and a communicator on sustainability.

oikos  FutureLab

As mentioned, 360° decided to investigate the possibilities to join oikos

International in the beginning of the fall semester. We were invited to come to

the ‘Presidents’ Kick Off weekend’ in Zürich and to ‘the FutureLab’ in St. Gallen.

Janni Raundahl, Chairwoman, Christina Ek, manager of Company Visits and Ane

Cæcilie Scheel, Vice Chairwoman, participated to get to know the network.

The aim with the first

summit was to to

develop the chapters

and strengthen a

network that supports

them so that they can

make an impact at the

universities. The oikos

FutureLab was a two-

day event that

gathered student members, alumni, faculty members and professionals with the

prospects to share knowledge between the many members, strengthen oikos’

current work as well as nurture an on-going exchange within the oikos

community to set agendas, define priorities and join forces to increase impact.

Page 16: 360 Students for Sustainability Annual Report 2011/2012

Winterschool  2011

Parallell to the FutureLab conference was the the oikos Winterschool in Berlin on

‘Social Entrepreneurship’. Simon Barducci, Manager of Develop Prize, and Luisa

Schoenwald, Communication Manager, were sent to represent us. The

participants were invited to apply by handing in project outlines for their own

social start-ups; we decided to present Develop Prize. Participants included

students and young entrepreneurs from all around the world, e.g. India, USA,

Canada, Sweden, Germany, Brazil, Georgia and the Netherlands, so it was an

excellent opportunity to get to know more about the “oikos family”.

The knowledge gained during the week on how to develop a business idea and

how to start up your own social enterprise was especially valuable for Develop

Prize to pass on to their competition participants.

oikos  Spring  Meeting

The delegation to Barcelona consisted of Regine Hagen, Tor Svendsen, Natalie

Pedersen and Joerg Weisshar. The topic for the International Spring Meeting in

Barcelona was ‘Sustainable Mobility’. As an organization, we had an overall goal

for 360° at the meeting; to become a full Chapter in the oikos network. 360°

was accepted as “oikos Copenhagen Chapter” by unanimous election during the

Legislative Meeting

after the members

had given a

presentation on our

achievements from

2011 and our

objectives and

aspirations for the

future. The positive

feedback on the

presentation was

overwhelming and a

positive boost for us.

Page 17: 360 Students for Sustainability Annual Report 2011/2012

Looking  Ahead:  Beyond  a  Grass-‐roots  Approach

It is clear that the sustainability debate has for real entered the board rooms and

the class rooms. We receive more attention from businesses and NGOs looking

for students to engage in dialogue with as well as from other our co-students

interested to hear more. This has pushed us to professionalize our work and

restructure our organization. Previously, our focus was on the members. The

persons coming into the organization were the ones who decided which projects

we should engage in. This was in many ways good as we learned a lot by being

active in various fields in different set ups, from collaborative workshops and

seminars to company visits and case competitions. Onwards, however, we want

to engage in fewer projects but with a big impact. Members are of course still the

backbone and the essence of 360° and any individual with an idea that fits our

mission can still use the organization as a platform to materialize it. We have the

knowledge and the network to make things happen. The change from grassroot

organization based on activist work to a XXX has been difficult but we can see

that our efforts now pay off as we can lift more interesting and bigger projects.

In 2011/2012, we have partnered up with the ‘The Sustainability Platform’. The

platform is gathering all initiatives on responsibility and sustainability on CBS.

We are the natural link between CBS as an organization and the students. We

are excited to see the partnership unfold as we believe having strong connections

between the institutions is key to make the real changes on campus, in the

lectures and thereby in the wider community. The platform is a great partner to

have to help us reach our goals.

Another new partnership is with Copenhagen School of Entrepreneurship as one

of our main pillars is ‘Social entrepreneurship’. We are looking forward to a

dynamic relationship with mutual benefits as we share the mission to create a

solid growing ground for entrepreneurial activities with a social impact.

The outlook for 2012/13 is promising. We have worked hard to be were we are,

namely on the springboard to become a game-changer in the sustainability field.
