Chart Shapes• Identifying chart shapes in a chart help us to identify the hemisphere and quadrants activated

in any given chart. It is not imperative to identify particular chart shapes by names, but most importantly the dynamic that each shape brings to chart delineation.

• Chart patterns and chart shapes, make it easier to consider a horoscope before delineation, by being able to see concentrations in a particular part of a chart.

• Look for where planets are concentrated and their relationship to each other?

• What quadrants are dominant or empty? Where are planets concentrated, above or below horizon?

• Look also for dominant elements, signs, aspects, aspect patterns, and house placements.

• Some important things to consider when identifying chart shape dynamics are:- Usually The Nodes of the Sun and Moon, other nodes like Black Moon Lilith, Asteroids or Centaurs, like Chiron are not used. These smaller bodies, angles or points are generally not used as scouts or leading bodies in a chart shape configuration.

• Remember nothing outweighs a planet!

Splash

• The SPLASH, displays planets fairly evenly scattered around the Zodiac.

• The splash occurs when the planets are randomly distributed around the chart in a 'splash'.

• The shape depicts someone with a wide range of abilities and interests, with a universal approach to life and wherever needs are greatest.

• A person with this pattern will be diverse, with a universal outlook on life.

• There is a danger of the person scattering their energy unproductively.

• Empty places become more significant.

• Stelliums do no usually show in a splash.

Splay

Splay• A Splay differs from a Splash as there are concentrations of planets, conjunctions and stellium in a few areas

of the chart.

• A Splay can be tripod pattern, with three separate segments with at least one empty sign between them.

• A grand trine with three major points and stellium can also be a Splay

• A person with a splay pattern shows talent and potential that can or need to be developed into worthwhile skills.

• The person will be an individualist, and show a need to abide by their own regime, avoiding routine and the usual.

• There can be a difficulty in gathering and putting together different skill sets.

Bowl

Page 19: 3:6: c - Chart Shapes

Bowl• In the bowl shape, all planets are located across one half of the horoscope, i.e. within 180°

or six signs of the zodiac, usually bracketed by opposing signs or houses.

• A person with a bowl shaped chart pattern tends to be highly focused, self-contained and have strong core values.

• The individual will go in search of enterprises that are meaningful, fulfilling and personally relevant.

• The challenge of the bowl shape is to become conscious of and integrate the qualities of the opposing hemisphere.

Bucket

Page 25: 3:6: c - Chart Shapes

Bucket• The BUCKET, is a shape where all planets are positioned posited in one part of the Zodiac, with the

exception of one planet or a conjunction of planets on the opposite side isolated from the rest.

• This is similar to the bowl shape, except that one planet opposes the planets that are close together in one hemisphere.

• This planet is called, the handle of the bucket and takes on extra importance.

• The handle, needs to be strong and can dominate the other planets. Managing the energies of the handle planet is very important for the individual.

• The bucket pattern indicates the desire to pull oneself out into society or to others, to find a sense of belonging and purpose. The challenge is to channel the energy wisely.

• They will usually direct their efforts to a single purpose, and strive to achieve objectives rather than act solely for their own self-preservation.

• The singleton planet at the handle of the bucket will strongly influence the behaviour of the person, it will be more important in the personʹs life than all the other planets.

Bundle

Page 31: 3:6: c - Chart Shapes

Bundle• All of the planets in the horoscope appear within the span of a trine or 120° or 4 signs of the

zodiac. Normally a bundle would appear in four or fewer adjacent signs or houses.

• This formation gives the individual a tremendous focus in life, enabling them to accomplish much in their area of concentration.

• The high concentration of planets shows a person who is intense in pursuit of personal interests.

• With this emphasis, there can be a lack of widespread interests or a more panoramic view of life.

• The best course of life for such a person is to enter into enterprises that require deep concentration, persistence and commitment, or to specialise in one area of expertise.

See-Saw

Page 38: 3:6: c - Chart Shapes

See - Saw• SEE-SAW, has two stelliums completely separated from each other, co-existing with each

other, pulled in different directions.

• The planets are bunched into two opposing sides, usually in a space of more that 60° on either side.

• A See -Saw shape depicts being pulled in two directions; learning compromise, balancing oppositions and projections in yourself.

• This shape can indicate, extreme projections and a competitive nature.

• The shape shows the difficulty with many oppositions operating at once to integrate these two different parts of their life, which can be in competition with each other.

Locomotive

Page 43: 3:6: c - Chart Shapes

Locomotive• This pattern is produced when all the planets are contained within 240°; normally including eight contiguous signs

or houses (although an empty sign or house is allowed.)so that a whole 120 degrees is completely unoccupied.

• The planet that rises clockwise following the empty space will be a most significant influence.

• The 'locomotive' planet is the driver of the train of planets behind, as it rises first.

• This planet drives the individual to achieve goals their goals.

• The individual is typically driven to achievement, in perceiving a "lack" to be filled or problem to be solved as indicated by the empty signs and houses.

• Such a person will often be a loner, waiting for the public to discover the truth of what they have been saying all along
