Aspect Patterns
Aspect Patterns •Aspect Patterns occur when 3 or more planets are
connected in a chart in a variety of aspect combinations
•Conjunctions, oppositions, trines, squares, sextiles and other
aspects can come together and can be seen to be dynamically
connected and working together as one configuration. •In aspect
patterns - major, minor, harmonious and tense aspects are combined.
•Tense aspects cause friction, leading to potential breakthrough
and great achievements. •Harmonious aspects show ease, yet may show
wasted or unseen opportunities. •Aspect patterns form a meaning of
their own. •Each planet involved has at least 2 aspects •Points and
angles can be involved with aspect pattern combinations, yet
priority is always given to planets. •Include major and minor
aspects.
Stellium
Stellium •3 or more planets in a single sign of zodiac, or within
10° of each other. •The House and sign of the chart are
intensified. •Too much energy in one place, obsessive, trapped.
•Stelliums need to be teased out, one planet at a time, and then
integrated. •Oppositions help to bring out the energy held with a
stellium.

T-Square •1 opposition and 2 squares. •2 planets in opposition are
both square to a third planet. •T-Squares are most dynamic when in
one modality - Cardinal Fixed, Mutable A Cardinal T- square
indicates a dynamic, breakthrough energy, take charge. A Fixed
T-square indicates a stubborn, battle till the end, and a no giving
in attitude: A Mutable T-square indicates a more elusive, flexible
and adaptable combination. •T-squares show tension, pressing
issues, that challenge us to push past obstacles, show
difficulties, yet stamina. •The pattern resembles the letter T when
viewed in the chart, and the squared planet is referred to as the
focal planet. •The focal planet receives all the tension. •The
point opposite the focal planet, is a sensitive point in the chart,
a release point to be looked at to relieve the tension of a
T-square. •Also look for trines and sextiles to either planets for
release.

Grand Cross
Grand Cross •A configuration of tense aspects, formed by 4 squares
and 2 oppositions. •Four planets of a horoscope in four
interlocking squares. •The most intense quadrangular configuration
- •A Grand Cross adds constraints, yet depicts a lot of energy
which demands to be used, internal dynamism, insistence and force.
•Those with a Grand Square are dynamic people, yet manifest
inflexibly(fixed) in relating to the world. •Stable pattern
producing results through effort. •Pay attention to Modes -
Cardinal, Fixed or Mutable, Angles and houses - Angular, Succedent,
Cadent.

Grand Trine
T-Square • Is depicted by: • 3 of more planets connected by trine
aspect make a triangle.
• Each planet in same element, fire, water etc
• The character traits and talents come easily and naturally, as
indicated by signs and houses of the trines.
• The native is self-sufficient in these areas of life. Energies
flow easily and naturally to them. It is a harmonious and very
stable configuration.
• Tense or challenging aspects may be necessary to provide the
motivation to develop or grow these traits.
• Fire trines - enthusiasm, new possibilities, ideas, intuitive.
Earth trines - practical work, mastering, resourceful, practical.
Air trines - intellectual, communicative talents, idea generating,
social. Water trines - natural healers, compassionate,
intuitive.

Kite
Kite A Kite is depicted by : •Four or more planets are involved: •A
Kite already involves a grand trine, (3 trines) plus 2 sextiles,
and 1 opposition. •The apex of the kite the focal planet, is
sextile two planets, and opposite another. •The focal planet
activates talents and channels the planets of grand trine. •A Grand
Trine alone may not provide enough impetus or challenge to develop
the talents inherent in the Grand Trine. Therefor a Kite formation
adds an element of challenge/ tension, to the grand trine enabling
the native to focus and release this energy. •The focal planet
stimulates activity. inclined to put the talents of the Grand Trine
into action. •There is also a sextile release of tension from
opposition, via the sextiles.

The Finger of God - YOD
•There are various kinds of YODS, depending of what aspects they
are composed of:
•This classic YOD is made up of two planets in sextile (60°) aspect
and a third planet in a quincunx (150°) aspect to both of
them.
•The third planet makes an exact midpoint structure with the other
two.
•Commonly found in yod patterns are the inclusion of the long
ongoing sextile of Neptune and Pluto.
•This aspect pattern requires common sense and flexibility in the
areas activated by the planets involved.
•The planet at the apex, where the Finger points to, is a point of
stressful experiences, where changes of perspective and outlook on
life are required.
•As the 2 quincunxes(150°) indicate the difficulty with integrating
energies that don’t easily work well together, - like water and
fire, or Aquarius to Cancer or Virgo. or signs like.
•
Focused YOD
1 x 60° Sextile, 2 x 150° Quincunx 5 x 30°
Inconjunct‚
2 x semi sextile, 1 x opposition °
The Yod is a source of irritation and frustration, but can also
raise awareness, particular through the energy of the apex planet.
We need to utilize the Sextile more, in order to "steer" the apex
planet.
If the apex planet forms an Opposition to a fourth planet, this is
often called a Yod Kite (also sometimes called aBoomerang).
THORS Hammer
Thor’s Hammer - YOD
•Thor’s Hammer is an aspect pattern consisting of a square (90°
degrees)
•and two sesquiquadrate(trioctile) aspects (135° degrees)
•It is an 8th Harmonic YOD.
• It is part of the dynamic series of aspects that are based on the
8th harmonic (45° degree) aspect series. 360/8 = 45°
•This is a particularly difficult pattern and is made of square
aspects producing tension.
•The base of the Yod is a square with 2 planets already in tension,
squared by mode and element.
•Then we have the focal point outlet, with 2 other difficult
aspects.
•The tension points to the outlet point (midpoint of square)
•The focal point, outlet creates an outlet, not necessarily
comfortable, and pushes out the tensions of the square.
•To work at its best this aspect needs at least one planet in the
pattern to have an outlet i.e. an easy flow aspect to another
planet or planetary pattern.
•The outlet planet can describe people who help and/or a talent or
ability that eases the pressure.
•This is a particularly difficult pattern as the sesquiquadrate
aspect tends to give quite severe criticism from others and this
produces considerable personal tension.
•Planets on the angles make aspect patterns very personal . •

Practice • In your own chart list the main aspect patterns you can
find. • List which planets are involved in each aspect pattern: •
Consider and interpret in a few lines on each aspect pattern in how
the planets • in these aspects patterns are either working
together, causing tension, • challenge or release or support in
particular areas of the chart.
Synthesis
•Once you have completed the above consider the various themes that
would underly the aspect patterns with the particular planets
involved.
•Make sure to consider particular stresses and challenges between
planets involved and area of chart most affected. •Consider how
these same planets work together differently as the aspect patterns
demand a different expression Consider these three configurations
and combinations: Sun/Jupiter/Uranus
Mercury/Mars/ Neptune, Venus/Saturn /Pluto Working in a: Stellium,
A yod, A trine
