Holles was born in Laingsburg, Michigan on December 4th. Holles and her family lived on a grain farm, where they grew wheat, corn, and oats. Holles had three brothers growing up, she was the second to youngest. After leaving high school early, Holles got a job at the local factory in town putting little motors together. Holles met her first husband, James Kimmell when she was 17 years old at an ice skating rink in January, and was married that next September. They were married for 19 years, when James passed away at the age of 38. Holles was then introduced to her next husband, Gilbert Dodge. Holles and Gilbert met on April 1st and were married by April 25th! Together Holles and Gilbert had three daughters: Lorris, Linda and Lynn. Holles and her family moved to Bradenton, Florida. There Holles worked as a seamstress for Courtesy Cleaners. Holles has sewn all her life. She learned when she was 10 years old and was a part of the 4-H Club. Holles made everything; clothes, dresses- you name it! She made dresses for her daughters for their school dances and also bridesmaid dresses. Holles still enjoys knitting quietly in her room and she would occasionally join the knitting club with their projects. Holles’s husband, Gilbert was a Mason from the West Coast Lodge No. 409 where he was past Grand Master. Holles joined Eastern Star and became a Worthy Matron of her Chapter in 1995. She also belonged to the Eastern Star Palmetto Chapter No. 88. Holles has been blessed with over 15 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren! Most of Holles’s family lives in Ohio, where she spent some time before moving into the Masonic Home, to be with her grandchildren. Her daughter, Lynn lives in Tampa and has been visiting often. You can usually find Holles visiting with her friends in the front lobby seating area, playing bingo and enjoying ice cream! She also likes playing games on her IPad and watching her television programs. Holles always has a way to make others laugh, and is a great story teller, too! Thank you for making our home a brighter place, Holles! Congratulations on being July’s Resident of the Month!
