Being passionate about dance, Bhavik likes to bring creativity and emotions through his dances. His idea behind JAY-HO is to unite Jain Youth and give platform to the hidden talents of Jain Youth and take them to the higher level. The Embodiment of Love

Leaving Asthik-gram Mahavir proceeded in the direction of Shvetambika town. The trail to this town passed through a dense and desolate forest. When some shepherds saw Mahavir entering the forest they shouted, "O Monk, stay put for a minute. This is a dangerous trail. There is a black serpent with venomous gaze on this trail. His hissing and gaze burn plant and trees. Even flying birds and standing humans drop dead. Please leave this trail and take a different route." Mahavir heard this fear filled call of the shepherds. With a serene smile he raised a hand as a gesture of assurance. With firm steps Mahavir went near the snake-hole. All around human and animal skeletons could be seen. There was not a single green leaf as far as the eye could see. Close to the snake-hole was a delepidated temple. Mahavir stood in the shade of this temple and started his meditation. After some time the giant black serpent came out of its hole hissing fiercely. It had seen a human being after a long time. The man was standing firm and fearless with closed eyes. The serpent was surprised. It looked at Mahavir with its venomous red eyes. Like flames from a ball of fire, its poisonous eyes emitted waves of venom. It hissed awesomely. But all this had no effect whatsoever on Mahavir. The serpent was astonished, "Till today every man I came across has been consumed by my first venomous hiss and this man stands still, absolutely unmoved." The serpent glanced at the sun and once again focused its gaze at Mahavir and hissed at him with renewed anger, but in vain. It slithered from the line of the expected fall of the body and than with all its force sank its fangs in Mahavir’s toe and injected all its venom. It drew back and waited expectantly again in vain. The angry serpent, vexed further by its failure stung Mahavir twice again. All its three attacks were wasted. Mahavir stood undisturbed. The serpent was astonished to see milk oozing out instead of blood from the spots where it has stung on Mahavir’s toe .

Bhagavan Mahavir was standing unmoved. His face was glowing and on his lips was a charming smile, like a blooming rose. His eyes reflected the inner compassion. The serpent continued to stare with surprise. Confused by its failure it was lost in its thoughts. Involved in his spiritual pursuits, Mahavir uttered din his deep and tranquil voice, " O Chandakaushik ! Open your inner eyes. Be calm and remember your past life. do not inject venom of anger in your life. Rise above the deadly poison of anger. Mahavir opened his ambrosia filled eyes. When the serpent met his gaze, it felt as if a wave of peace and tranquillity had engulfed its inner self. It appeared that its venom was slowly vanishing. It was lost in deep thoughts. Its dormant memory started unfolding and it acquired Jatismaran Jnan. Incidents from its past two births surfaced in its memory. It realized that it had suffered excruciating pain and degradation due to extreme anger and acute attachment during those births. The heat of repentance melted its vices. Its spirit embraced enlightenment and mind became tranquil. It touched the pious feet of Bhagavan Mahavir and resolved, "O Lord ! Now I will not look at any one at all throughout my life. I will not eat anything. I will not drink also. I will just put my mouth in the hole and lie still in the shadow of your feet. I will now at one for all my sins committed during the last three births and improve my future." Knowing that the serpent had become harmless, throngs of people started arriving from nearby villages. They worshipped the serpent-god by offering milk and sweets. But the serpent was lying, keeping its hood in the hole, in meditation without even a trace of movement . Swarms of ants were attracted by the sweets. They started stinging the serpent. But the serpent tolerated these afflictions with equanimity. It silently took the last vow (fast unto death). It tolerated the agony of hunger, thirst and the stings of ants. Its body became almost perforated, but it did not react at all. After fifteen days it died and was reborn as a god in the Sahasrar dimension.

Quashing of the Flames

Once, leaving Shravasti, Shraman Vardhaman was going to Haliddug village. On the way he saw a large banyan tree. finding it suitable, he went under it and started his night meditation. It was winter and a cold wind was blowing. Gaushalak was also following him. As Gaushalak could not tolerate the piercing wind, he shifted to the other side of the tree. After some time some wayfarers also stopped under the tree. They collected dry wood and started a fire to cook food. They spent the night there and kept the fire burning. The fire slowly spread and reached the spot where Mahavir was standing. Gaushalak shouted a warning. But Mahavir had no Early in the morning they broke camp and went away. The fire was left burning. Slowly it spread and engulfed the surrounding dry twigs and leaves gathered under the tree. The wind was blowing in the direction of meditating Mahavir. The fire slowly spread and reached the spot where Mahavir was standing. Gaushalak shouted a warning. But Mahavir had no awareness besides that for his soul. He was unmoved by the heat of the approaching flames. He was busy quashing the ultimate fire, the fire of rebirth. The flames reached him and scorched his feet. Even this acute pain did not reach the depth of his tranquillity. After some time the fire subsided on its own. Torture by Kalahasti

Leaving Chorak village Mahavir arrived at the out skirts of Kalambuka village. This village was ruled by two brother, Megh and Kalahasti. Although they were landlords and chieftains. they were still involved in unlawful activities like looting the neighboring kingdom. Tying them with ropes, he tortured them inhumanely. When he still could extract no information from them be ordered them, to be taken to his elder brother, Megh, for further torture and interrogation. Shackled like criminals, They were produced before Megh, who felt as if he was looking at a known face. He suddenly recalled that once he had seen prince Vardhaman at the court of king Siddharth. This shackled spy seemed to have an uncanny resemblance with the prince. He came closer and recognized that the person in bondage was none else but prince Vardhaman who had become a Shraman. He fell at the feet of Mahavir and, with tears of repentance in his eyes he begged to be forgiven. When released Mahavir resumed his journey.

Among the Aborigines

It was the fifth year of practices of Bhagavan Mahavir. He moved into the Radh (or Ladh) country. This area was also known as Vajra Bhumi or Shubhra Bhumi and was inhabited by scant and scattered population of rustic aborigines. Gaushalak also followed Mahavir wherever he went. The people of this area did not know anything about ascetics and their ways. They stared in astonishment when they saw a naked person standing like a statue at godforsaken places. When they did not get any response or even reaction on shouting at him, they would get irritated and hit him with sticks, lances, bones and stones. Some on his body. Shraman Mahavir equally tolerated all these tortures and continued his advance toward purity. He wandered from one place to another and once in a while came across small villages. Not so very often he would enter a village to beg food and mostly got dry and stale food. However, most of the time he went without any food. People would curiously stare at him and wild dogs would pounce on him and bite. For their crude entertainment, the aborigines would pick up Mahavir and throw him on the ground. Mahavir spent almost five months in that area during his first visit. Once again, during the ninth year of his practices, Mahavir returned to this area for about six months.

I have used brown parcel paper – I love it and it is so cheap, especially if you buy it by the roll. I cut a sheet of A4 from the roll at an angle to get the lines of the paper running diagonally…

1. Blank side up, place the centre of the cd hole over the centre point of the shorter side of the paper.

2. Fold the top and bottom in so that the cd is fitted snugly in the centre.

3. Carefully fold the cd over toward the centre (make sure the cd doesn’t move too much!) Fold the other side in so it’s snug against the exposed edge of the cd.

SPINACH AND RICOTTA TRIANGLES

These mini vegetarian snacks are quick and very easy-to-prepare finger foods. The combination of spinach and ricotta cheese is just mind-blowing. Tickle your taste buds by trying these super-delicious triangles at home. This recipe, shared by Ponmathi Srilekha from Lekha Foods, will surely make you ask for more. Serves: 8 Preparation Time: 1 hour 20 minutes Cooking Time: 30 minutes

Ingredients: • 1 kilograms spinach, washed and trimmed, or 500 grams frozen spinach • 500 grams Ricotta cheese • 500 ml plain low-fat yoghurt • 4 tablespoons snipped chives • 1 teaspoon grated nutmeg • Salt • Freshly grounded black pepper • 500 grams filo pastry • 100 ml vegetable oil • Watercress sprigs, to garnish Method: 1. Cook the spinach in very little boiling salted water for about seven minutes, until just tender. If you use frozen spinach, cook it according to the instructions given on the packet. Drain thoroughly, chop finely and leave to cool. 2. Combine the Ricotta with the yoghurt, chives and the nutmeg. Season it with salt and pepper. Add the spinach and mix well. 3. Preheat the oven to moderate temperature. Place the filo pastry on a damp board and cut into four-inch squares, cutting through sheets at once. Cover with a damp cloth to the pastry moist. 4. Take one square of pastry and brush it with oil. Take two teaspoon of the spinach and cheese mixture in the middle of the square and fold over diagonally to make it a triangle. 5. Continue with the pastry squares and spinach mixture, until you have enough. 6. Arrange it on lightly oiled baking sheets and brush it with oil. 7. Bake it in the oven for 12 minutes, until they are brown. 8. Cool it and garnish it with watercress.

SUMMER VEGETABLE CRPES

We tend to isolate crepes for desserts, even though they make great healthy weeknight dinner too! Filled with colourful veggies, ricotta cheese, green beans, zucchini this dish is a good carb food. Not only its health quotient but the crunchy taste and juicy flavour will make these vegetable crepes a hit as a side dish in the summer.

Ingredients • 1/3 cup reduced-fat sour cream • 1/2 cup chopped fresh chives, divided, plus more for garnish • 3 tablespoons low-fat milk • 2 teaspoons lemon juice • 3/4 teaspoon salt, divided • 1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil • 2 cups chopped zucchini • 1 1/4 cups chopped green beans • 1 cup fresh corn kernels, (from 1 large ear; see Tip) • 1 cup part-skim ricotta cheese • 1/2 cup shredded Monterey Jack cheese • 1/4 teaspoon freshly ground pepper • 4 9-inch “ready-to-use” crêpes, or you can also make them at home Method Stir sour cream, 1/4 cup chives, milk, lemon juice and 1/4 teaspoon salt in a small bowl until combined. Set aside. Heat oil in a large nonstick skillet over medium-high heat. Add zucchini, green beans and corn and cook, stirring, until beginning to brown, 6 to 8 minutes. Reduce heat to low; stir in ricotta, Monterey Jack, the remaining 1/4 cup chives, the remaining 1/2 teaspoon salt and pepper. Cook, stirring gently, until the cheese is melted, 1 to 2 minutes. Remove from the heat. To roll crêpes, place one on a piece of parchment or wax paper (or leave it on the piece of plastic separating the crêpes in the package). Spoon one-fourth of the vegetable-cheese mixture (about 3/4 cup) down the center of the crêpe. Use the paper (or plastic) to help you gently roll the crêpe around the filling. Place the crêpe seam-side down on a dinner plate. Repeat with the remaining crêpes and filling. Serve each crêpe topped with 2 tablespoons of the reserved sauce and more chives, if desired. I have believed that the creative team making a film should also take financial responsibility for it. It's my job to make sure people investing in my film get their money back and earn something out of it. That doesn't mean I am compromising on my choice of work. But I am not the marketing guru that I am made out to be. If you are excited about telling a story, you'll grab everyone's attention. For me, reaching out to people is marketing. And often, while crying, I wipe my tears and continue with the discussion. On television, I try to control it but there have been instances where we had to stop shooting because I just would not stop crying. If I look at it from a logical or marketing point of view, then it's a very unwise thing to do because I am making a film on a learning disability with a child as the lead actor. But once I have decided that a film has to be made, no matter what, I try to make it economically viable. When people talk about the film, it sells tickets and becomes commercial. Effort to change the system During the fight between producers, distributors and exhibitors, I didn't agree with their system that the first week would fetch the makers 52 per cent, and then 45 per cent and 30 per cent in the subsequent weeks. If a small film releases, the word that it is good goes out only by the second week, by when the profit percentage is lower. Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak started to make money in its fourth week and we were making only 25 per cent. This system is against the grain of nurturing new talent. Instead of five big stars, we should have 20. We have to encourage young talent. There are two changes in the industry I would want to see. The profit-sharing system on a week-to-week basis should be done away with. Secondly, we need to value writers and pay them more. On joining politics I would never want to endorse a political party, certainly not on a professional level. I would not take money and endorse a political party. If at all I do endorse one, it would be because I genuinely believe that a particular party is going to make a big difference and contribute to our society. Formal education not a must Most of my education has been informal. I don't have a graduate degree. Education is very important but not necessarily in the formal sense of the word. However, gathering knowledge and experience, and getting that understanding is very important. The business of Awards I may not have attended the big televised awards ceremonies in the last 18-20 years, but I have attended and accepted other awards. For instance, I accepted an award from the Dinanath Mangeshkar Foundation and also the Gollapudi Srinivas Award in Chennai. A young man, Gollapudi Srinivas, was making his first film and died on the ninth day of the shoot. His family initiated this award to encourage first-time directors. I won it for Taare Zameen Par and K Balachander was the chief guest. I felt very special on that day. I went to the Oscars because I value the Academy Awards. My interest was not to be told by the Academy that I made a great film - that is something my audience has already told me by then. Once a film gets nominated for an Oscar, an entirely new audience gets to see it.

AURANGZEB REVIEW Rumors are rife that AURANGZEB is the present-day version of Yash Chopra's immensely likable TRISHUL. With modifications of course, to suit the present-day sensibilities. Much earlier, when YRF unveiled the promo of the film, the comparisons with Chandra Barot's DON had gathered momentum. So what's the truth? Well, AURANGZEB does bring back memories of TRISHUL as well as DON, but the premise, setting and execution are poles apart. AURANGZEB, a crime drama, focuses on the land mafia and the enmity between two authoritative factions: Police and mafia. The film marks the big screen debut of Atul Sabharwal, who directed a crime show [POWDER] for Yash Raj's television unit. The director knows the technicalities right, but he falters -- and falters big time -- in narrating a gripping story in a concise format. Resultantly, the film tests the patience of the spectator in the second hour and the impact of several brilliant moments gets washed away in the process. A family of policemen... A family of gangsters... Under the guise of a respected citizen, Yashwardhan [Jackie Shroff], runs a parallel world, a world where he is the Emperor. To bring down a criminal, the law will have to now think like a criminal! When Vishal [Arjun Kapoor] is planted in Yashwardhan's world in place of Ajay [Arjun Kapoor], the lawmakers [Rishi Kapoor and Prithviraj] roll the dice and a sequence of events unravel something much more than what Vishal bargained for, as he finds himself in a predicament that puts him to test! AURANGZEB catches your eye initially. There are numerous characters in this cat and mouse saga and the storytelling, although slow-paced, keeps the spectator glued to the proceedings. Atul, who has also penned the screenplay, focuses on drama more than action/violence and the back story of the prominent characters as well as the menacing games they indulge in results in an invigorating first hour. Atul makes sure he packages the narrative well with moments that, although predictable at times, stay with you. Like most Hindi movies, AURANGZEB suffers from the curse of the second hour syndrome, for the film languishes and fumbles soon after the intermission. There are too many issues, frankly. First and foremost, the drama loses sheen as it

proceeds. Two, the drama seems never-ending and with too many characters and too many things happening in the movie, what comes across is a hodgepodge. Even the culmination fails to give you a high. Adding to the woes is its lethargic pacing! To give the credit where it's due, Atul handles the dramatic moments adroitly, but the effort to cram too many characters and episodes in the screenplay hits the second hour of the film hard. Dialogue, so crucial in a film that has drama as its core selling point, is punch-packed at times, but commonplace otherwise. There's no scope for music here and the absence of a popular score too is a deterrent. The film is well shot, with the DoP [N. Karthik Ganesh] filming the outdoors with flourish. Rishi Kapoor is the lifeline of the enterprise. He charms his way into the spectator's minds with a spectacular performance. It's a delight to watch Jackie Shroff and Amrita Singh, a popular pair of the 1980s, after a hiatus in dominant parts. Jackie excels in his role, although he is sidelined subsequently. Amrita is super in a role that demands a scheming and manipulating woman. Arjun Kapoor, who impressed critics and moviegoers alike in his debut film, gets to portray dual roles. The wild child is reminiscent of the part he portrayed in ISHAQZAADE, but the second role is sober and subdued. The youngster attempts to balance the dissimilar parts deftly, but falters in emotional moments. Newcomer Sasheh Agha gets to depict several bold scenes in her debut film and the newcomer seems quite comfortable and confident doing those. Prithviraj, who debuted on the Hindi screen with AIYYAA, gets a meatier part this time, but the challenge lies in convincing the spectator that he looks his part of a North Indian. It's evident that the talented actor has polished his diction and speaks his lines effortlessly. Otherwise too, his performance is effectual. Deepti Naval is wasted. Ditto for Anupam Kher. Tanvi Azmi is efficient. Swara Bhaskar is limited to a few scenes. Sikander Berry doesn't get much scope. On the whole, AURANGZEB has a great premise, but great plots don't, generally, translate into great films. This one's way too lengthy and mediocre [second hour] to leave any kind of an impression whatsoever. Disappointing!
