Circle of LifeFrom the day we arrive on the planet

And blinking, step into the sunThere's more to see than can ever be seen

More to do than can ever be doneThere's far too much to take in hereMore to find than can ever be found

But the sun rolling highThrough the sapphire sky

Keeps great and small on the endless round

It's the Circle of LifeAnd it moves us all

Through despair and hopeThrough faith and loveTill we find our place

On the path unwinding

In the circle of life, high school is just one small step. Kindergarten and middle school prepared youfor high school, high school prepared you for college, college prepares you for graduate school and acareer, and from there, one is always prepared to move on to life’s next big promotion. Every day, youare reminded that what you did here matters and that it is preparing you for the rest of your lives. Weoften ask ourselves, are we preparing our whole lives?

Newton once said, “To myself I am only a child playing on the beach, while vast oceans of truth lieundiscovered before me.”

As you ponder each step of life’s great cycle, remember to live in the moment, in the now, and appre-ciate what you are, what you have, and who surrounds you. You’re anxious to be gone, but as youhead off to college, enjoy this next step in your lives because it will be over all too soon. As you trav-el on, we hope that the memories that you’ve made here return to you often.

High school has its own little cycle. As one class leaves, another enters. Each year imparted to you adifferent role. You came into kindergarten as the little ones learning how to adapt. As you grew older, you rebelled a bit. In middle school, you knew the ropes and eagerly awaited high school. And thencame senior year…top of the heap…the icing on the cake! You now know more because you havestood on the shoulders of teachers, administrators, and even classes that came before you. In thefuture, you will be the pillars that future senior classes will look up to as role models.

Next year, you will begin a new phase, a new beginning as college freshmen, adding to the foundationthat AMSI has laid for you. We believe that you have the strength to do that. You are surrounded bypeople who love you, respect you, believe in you and know that you have the “hearts and the smarts”to progress and excel in life. The future while it brings opportunities will bring with it some worriesand obstacles, but the challenge is to stay true to the values you’ve learned. Remember the giants thattaught you right from wrong… Live in the now… Stay true to yourselves…Rejoice in the circle of life.

Congratulations Class of 2013!

Al Mawakeb School... a special home for 14 years...Take a look at the faces before you. They all tell a story of a 14-year jour-ney, and though it’s the same journey, not one of the stories is the same.

Back in 1998, as your journey began, you all thought about school as aplace that happened to be on the road taking you to your dreams. Butdespite those beliefs, there were moments when you were caught offguard, and in those moments, you made memories. You realized that youhad made friends and connections with teachers and administrators. Youhad shared meaningful conversations and learned insightful lessonsinside and outside the classroom. In other words, you had planted yourown roots. Although departing from each other's lives may seem sad atthe surface, but it's really a celebration of the diversity of your dreams.

So on the eve of your graduation, let us celebrate together because eventhough you are all so different, you have something in common: youexperienced life here. Having spent so many years here has helped refinethe individuals you were meant to be. People who loved music and dramahad the chance to showcase wonderful talents in the Drama Club; thosewho enjoyed sports had the opportunity to hone their athletic abilities, while those who possessed oratory and debate skills savoured theprospect of participating in renowned events like Model UN or HarvardModel Congress.

Fourteen years seems to be like a grain of sand compared to the time you have left ahead of you. Butwhat you did with that little speck of sand was enormous. Some of you have already accomplished alot. Among you, we have witnessed the growth of writers, scientists and engineers, community helpers, athletes, and young politicians.

You made it here with your integrity, your skills, and your willpower. You are the wise, the creative, thebrave, and you are the future.

Al Mawakeb School... a special home for 14 years...

Another year goes by, and we find ourselves bidding our studentsfarewell as they set forth on another journey of learning and self-discov-ery. With the class of 2013, an elite group of students deserve a specialmention – a group that spent 14 years within their second home, AlMawakeb. We proudly reminisce their first day of school. Their little hands grippedtheir parents’ as they opened the doors to the school that would laterbecome a second abode. Every year, we saw the once anxious and fright-ened 3-year olds grow and prosper to become hopeful, spirited and curi-ous young learners.

They now stand tall before us, fine young men and woman, each with tremendous confidence andintegrity. They leave us with the greatest of memories; a first dance or song on Mothers’ Day, triumphduring a sports challenge, endless hours cramming for exams, or memorable performances during activ-ities and shows...

We are confident that their endless energy and fervour will continue to shine in any challenge that willcome their way, whether big or small, academic or fun. We are proud of whom they’ve become, of howthey created the highest, grandest vision possible for their lives.

The next steps for you we expect will be glittering. You have the chance to follow your passion and cre-ate a successful life with all the values you learned, knowledge you attained and potential you possess.Give it everything you have no matter what the destination is.

so many skilled orators...So many skilled orators gathered to gain the opportunity to speak onbehalf of their classmates. This was their chance to express their feel-ings, happiness, gratitude and anxiety about leaving this familiarhome to seek new accomplishments. As usual, the judges had thechallenging task of choosing the best, and the best were many, for allof them spoke words from the heart. So many impressed and daz-zled with their sincerity, confidence and maturity. The sores wereclose, but finalists were finally selected.

Again, more rigorous auditions, finally, our anxious finalists rushedto hear the results… sounds of murmurs, beating hearts and sighsfilled the room, but only to be later replaced by triumphant and won-derful cries expressing how honoured and fulfilled they felt at havingbeen chosen.

When we first started school, we all had dreams and expectations that varied frommaking valuable friendships to pursuing academic accomplishments. As we beganto get closer to the pinnacle of the academic pyramid, our dreams began to takedifferent forms. As time passed, we matured and became the independent indi-viduals we are today. We have dreams within dreams that have gathered togetherwith the passage of time and impel us to strive for what we believe in. The timewe spent in school surpasses our time at home. For five days of the week, wewould be in the company of our beloved co-directors, teachers and our classmates. We learned not only academic subjects, but also lessons that ranged from manag-ing our time to being there for a friend in need. It is an incontrovertible fact that the envi-ronment we came to every day played an important role in determining our goals and shaping our characters tobecome leaders of the future.

Aisha Galadari, 12C, Al Mawakeb School - Al Barsha

so many skilled orators...

Here we are today…. Ready to take that next big step in our lives and to facethe challenges that lie ahead. Al Mawakeb has undoubtedly prepared us to facethese challenges with confidence and pride. Many of us will go in various direc-tions to join different universities around the world. I have no doubt howeverthat each and every one of us will become a role model for future generations, through our ethics, values and achievements in the societies we live in. We mustall strive to become the leaders, thinkers and shapers of tomorrow’s world. Theworld of tomorrow faces massive challenges… from pollution to alternative ener-gy, from global warming to feeding a growing population… and so much more.We must strive not only to face these challenges and tackle those obstacles, butalso to contribute to finding practical solutions to overcome them.

Fatma Bayrozyan, 12C, Al Mawakeb School - Al Barsha

14 years ago, on my first day at Al Mawakeb School as a lost and chubby little 4year old, I was scared. My parents were snapping photos of me while I was cry-ing, but today, 14 years later, my parents are still snapping photos of me, but theyare the ones crying. Robert Frost once said “I am not a teacher, but an awaken-er”. 14 years later, I am awake. I am an aware, knowledgeable, and educatedAMSI graduate who shall one day cement her feet on the long and grueling roador, what we call, the future. Our future is not something that happens to us. Itis up to us to create, and at AMSI, we have been taught not what to think, buthow to think, and not what to say, but what to do, and with those important val-ues, we accomplished.

so many skilled orators...

When writing a book, writers must divide it into3 main parts: the opening to the story, the actualstory itself, and the closing to the story. We maynot have realized it, but for the past 14 years, wehave been writing the prologue to our story…the opening to our work of art. Our exposure tolove, loss, fear, and knowledge helped mould ourpersonalities. Each of us is standing here beforeyou, our family, our friends, our teachers asunfinished works of our creation.

Today we end a chapter of our life’s journeyand begin a whole new chapter in which weeach embark on different adventures. All ourlives we have been perched on a nest that wehave known to be Al-Mawakeb and we calledthat nest our home. Mawakeb taught us totolerate, endure, survive, enjoy, and savorevery little moment and situation we haveencountered during our lives.

This is it, the time we’ve been waiting for ever since high school began. I stillremember how eager we always were to get to graduation day. I mean I can stillhear us as freshmen saying, "Aw, man, I wish we were seniors so we could justleave this place". It’s funny because this place is the place that made us who weare now. I could go on and on about the memories we’ve made here, fromrunning around the hallways, playing pranks, to just pulling off the best eventsas well. Every wall, every hallway, every teacher, every joke, every tear, everysmile will be remembered. This place showed us how to love.

Today, we are here to celebrate and acknowledge the lifetime achievements ofmany, and the hard work and dedication that have shaped us into who we are. From the very beginning, it seemed as if we were counting the days until we leaveschool, yet that dream is no longer a distant reality, and as the last day of schoolapproaches, bittersweet feelings start to emerge at the thought of our inevitableparting. Because somewhere along that road, school ceased to be a place we hadto go to, and instead became a place where we loved to be, a place where welearned and laughed, a place where the bonds of friendships were forged.

Marwa Ebrahim, 12A, Al Mawakeb School - Al Barsha

For fourteen years we have walked into open gates which held beyond themopportunities, memories, challenges and rewards. For fourteen years, we havelearned to perfect the art of lead and ink and slowly began to write words thatbecame chapters of our stories. For fourteen years, we have run across play-grounds that have witnessed the worst and best of us yet carried us high andsteady. For fourteen years, we have walked through hallways that bore our great-est moments on their walls. For fourteen years, we have proudly lifted our headsand raised our voices every morning to honor the national anthem. For fourteenyears, we have argued, agreed, nagged, enjoyed, cried, laughed, struggled andmade our way to this point…a point where we stand before you today not onlyas students, but as graduates, academics and leaders.

We are gathered here today to say farewell to aplace we call home…a place we have spent mostof our childhood in. I’m sure we all rememberthe first time we left our parents’ side or the firsttear we ever shed standing alone behind thisschool’s fences on our first day in kindergarten. And now we stand here before you as seniorsthat have gone through a great deal of transfor-mation, be it in our appearances, our attitudes orthe realization that we are no longer kids and

that THIS is our first shot at greatness.Fahed Al Awadhi, 12E, Al Mawakeb School - Al Barsha

Al Mawakeb was not just a school for us all, butit was our sanctuary from different challenges. Itwas a fortress that shielded us and put us in thecompany of books and wisdom. Tala Yassin, 12F, Al Mawakeb School - Al Garhoud
