Here's hoping that all of you have stayed healthy and most importantly sane during this period. I didn't realize

just how much I'd miss church and seeing all of you. I must say that for me the hardest part has been the

socialization absence. I'm a people person and love to be around my friends. And my church family is definitely

my friends. But I will say that I have enjoyed watching some of the other church's online. Lisa and I have set

every Sunday morning and watched services online. For those of you that remember when Pastor Jonathan

Eilert was here, we have really enjoyed watching his services from Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Love-

land, Ohio where he is the Sr. Pastor. His daughter Margaret has a beautiful singing voice and is the lead singer

and son Daniel does the editing to put it all together. If you haven't tuned in to them either through Facebook

or YouTube, I'd strongly encourage you to check them out.

Many, many thanks to Jillian and Kevin for doing our own St Peter videos, and also to those of you that have

offered your own testimonies, readings and music. It's a great way to see all your faces even if not in person.

Many thanks to our Call Committee. They have been busy completing our profile and have it sent in to the

Synod so it can be shared with prospective candidates.

Our council has been meeting bi-weekly via Zoom. Mary joins in and we have all had some great discussions

and feel as though we are accomplishing keeping our operations flowing.

Our fellowship hall is in process of getting a much needed facelift. Thanks to the property committee for

putting this all in order. Wallpaper is being stripped, new painting, flooring, ceiling and lighting updates will

make a huge improvement that we can all look forward to.

I certainly hope that we can all meet together very soon. Believe me, as soon as we feel it's safe to do so we

will! We will keep you all informed as soon as we know something. I have a feeling that first Sunday we are

back there will be so much visiting and catching up to do that no one will be in a hurry to get home.

Again, please stay safe, wash your hands, wear your masks, do whatever you feel you need to do to stay

healthy, until we meet together again to share worship, communion and fellowship. I CAN'T WAIT!!!

CELEBRATING HIGH SCHOOL SENIOR

ALEX BORTON Alex Borton is a 2020 Northwestern High School graduate. He is the son of Jim and Sherri Borton, and has a younger sister, Ari, who is a Sophomore this year. He identifies

Physical Education as his favorite subject, and says Mrs. Zody and Mr. Kline have been his favorite teachers.

Alex has had a very busy and successful high school career. He has enjoyed being on the Northwestern High School soccer team, and was designated a team captain for both his Junior and Senior years. He has also been very active in Future Farmers of America, and was Student Advisor his Junior year and Treasurer his Senior year. In FFA, he is currently in the top 4 in Ohio for Best Fruit Production - Supervised Agriculture Experience. Addi-tionally, he has been a member of the National Honor Society, as well as President of his 4-H club, for the past 2 years.

Alex has also taken on a significant role at his family’s winery, Lincoln Way Vineyards.

He is currently the vineyard Manager and oversees 3 employees. His job includes pruning, tying, succoring, spraying, mowing, shoot tucking, netting and harvesting in the vineyard. He also does landscaping work around the property. Alex enjoys talking with customers about the various wines they produce and the history of the winery.

Next fall, Alex will attend Ohio State ATI, where he will major in Ag Systems Management. He plans to continue working at the winery while attending ATI. His long term

goals include continuing the family business and increasing his role and responsibilities to being in charge of operations and vineyard management.

While some seniors have struggled with their last year of high school being cut short, Alex maintains a positive attitude and describes it as “the best senior year ever!”. He is glad that he got to finish his last year of soccer, unlike many athletes. He is completing an internship at the winery this year, and it made for a hectic schedule, going back and forth to school and trying to manage homework and time in the classroom. He said with the school closing down for the year, it makes his schedule more manageable and flexible. The only downside, he says, is that he doesn’t get to see his friends very often.

Alex’s favorite memory of St. Peter is when he attended Vacation Bible School in the summers. He says his favorite Bible verse is 1 John 2:16-17, which he summarizes as “Life is short. Heaven is forever!”.

Thank you, Alex, for taking the time to share with St. Peter a little more about yourself and your future plans. Congratulations on all of your accomplishments, and we will pray for success in your future endeavors. May God bless you and keep you as you begin your journey into adulthood!

CELEBRATING HIGH SCHOOL SENIOR

TAYLOR HOWMAN

Taylor Marie Howman is a 2020 Northwestern High School graduate. She is the daughter of Lynnessa (Ray) Casto and David Howman and granddaughter of Don and Linda Reichert. Taylor has a brother, Austin, and step-siblings, Gwynn and Brandon and resides at 4985 Lattasburg Road.

Due to social distancing, we talked on the phone and I am pleased to share what I learned about this bright young graduate!

While attending Northwestern, Taylor enjoyed performing in drama productions and choir. She was part of HOSA, a health and science group debate team that went to regionals, which required a lot of research. Her favorite subjects are science and histo-ry. This past fall she was on the cross country team and although it was "grueling" she was very glad to have been a part of the team which became like family.

Taylor received a Holmes-Wayne Electric scholarship and Ohio Seal of Biliteracy recognition. The latter is for scoring high on a 4-part test in French of which she has studied for the past 4 years at Northwestern. She was also on track to be ranked first or second in her class of 98 students!

Taylor is involved in 4-H with her sheep, chickens and geese. But she also loves her cats. She enjoys knitting, which her Grand-ma Dear (Linda) taught her, jigsaw puzzles (which may keep her up until 3am), writing books and short stories, and reading historical fiction and classics. (I told her I can relate to the puzzles!) She has been texting to keep up with friends during this time and has a guitar that she is trying to learn to play, also.

She mostly remembers Pastor Wanamaker and listening to his sermons while attending worship with Grandpa and Grandma Dear Reichert. A favorite verse for Taylor is Isaiah 40:11. "He shall feed his flock like a shepherd, he shall gather the lambs with his arm, and carry them in his bosom, and shall gently lead those that are with young."

Taylor's future plans include commuting to Ashland University to pursue a criminal justice degree. She's staying open-minded about a future career choice but mentioned police detective as an interest.

Thank you, Taylor, for sharing with St. Peter an update of your life and future plans. We congratulate you on your accomplish-ments and we will keep you close in thought and prayer as you pursue higher education and follow the good shepherd's lead-ing. May God bless and keep you and we look forward to seeing you very soon!

GRACIOUS GIVERS “Gracious Givers” (aka our Giving Tree) this summer:

The Social and Outreach Committee is so thankful for the kind hearts of our St Peter’s congregation.

Once we resume our services and activities and also Care and Share is able to move women/kids out of 180 again, we will find out what they need and request items.

Gracious Givers of St Peter’s will also be sharing donations with Northwestern Schools as sweatpants and underwear will be collected.

Thank you, dear Jesus, for guiding us in helping others! ❤

CELEBRATING OUR COLLEGE GRADUATES

CHLOE & COURTHEY HAGANS

CHLOE HAGANS

Chloe graduated from The Ohio State University with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Business Administration with a specialization in Marketing and a minor in Fashion and Retail Studies. At Ohio State, Chloe was a member of Delta Delta Delta, or Tri Delta, where she enjoyed raising money for their philanthropy, St. Jude Children’s Hospital. Chloe even got to visit the hospital in Memphis, Tennessee one year. Out-side of her sorority, you could often find her playing intramural soccer, flag football, or indoor and sand volleyball. She also interned for a local lifestyle blogger named Nicole Leffew, where she and Courtney helped the blogger track engagement on all her social media platforms. Following that, Chloe had an internship at Wendy’s as a Communications Intern throughout her senior year.

Chloe has recently accepted a full time offer with Wendy’s at their Dublin, OH headquarters where she will be the System Com-munications Coordinator. She will be working with internal communications such as distributing announcements across the company and planning company wide meetings or celebrations. A fun fact about this job is she will actually be working with her sister, Paige Sneed, on some projects because Paige is Chloe’s department’s IT partner! All throughout college, Chloe has found comfort in Proverbs 31:25 “She is clothed in strength and dignity, and laughs without fear of the future.”

COURTNEY HAGANS

Courtney graduated from The Ohio State University, majoring in Fashion and Retail Studies with a Business minor. During her time at Ohio State, she was involved in her sorority, Alpha Xi Delta, acting as Chapter President for the year of 2019 where she oversaw 7 Vice Presidents and 26 directors. She also interned during the school year, working as an Assistant for a Columbus-based lifestyle blogger, Nicole Leffew her sophomore year, an Event Planner for Victoria’s Secret her junior year, and a Marketing Strategist for Victoria’s Secret PINK her senior year. Courtney is currently interviewing for some full-time positions in Columbus, with interest in Marketing and Project Planning. At the end of the summer she will be moving a little further away from campus into an apartment with her sister Chloe, which is just a short 7-minute drive from her other sister Paige! During this hard time she remembers one of her favorite verses, often repeated by her Aunt Sherry Crumley, Philippians 4:13 “I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength.”

ST. PETER COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIP: Scholarship applications will be available in the church office by May 22nd. If you would prefer to have a digital copy sent directly to your email due to social distancing preferences, please contact Kristen Hudson.

APPLICATION DEADLINE: JULY 19, 2020

Scholarships will be awarded during church in early August.

ST. PETER SCHOLARSHIP AUCTION This event will take place once church services resume. Please watch the Weekly Messenger for updates. And also

PARISH COUNCIL MEETING REPORTS May 11, 2020 7:00pm Secretary’s Report Church Council met virtually on May 11 using Zoom. All members were present. Mary Kinney joined us.

Properties Chair Mike Martin reported wallpaper remov-al and painting has begun in the fellowship hall. He pre-sented an estimate from Greg Hagans to replace the tile ceiling in the north section of the fellowship hall with drywall, including taping and finishing in the amount of $2300.00. After some discussion, Sharon Martin made a motion to accept Greg’s estimate and move forward, Kristen Hudson seconded, and the motion carried. This expense falls under the amount already approved by the congregation at our annual meeting in December.

Mike reported the septic aerator was rebuilt for $350.00 and warned of a possible lawn mower transmission re-pair in the near future.

Sharon Martin knows of a local missionary family moving back to Wayne County and possibly needing a short-term rental home until they can purchase a home. Council was in favor of having occupancy in the parsonage as well as helping a neighbor in need. An interim pastor will most likely not use the parsonage. President Roger Kamp will let the congregation know of our intentions before we offer the parsonage to this family on a month to month rental.

Weekly videos will continue with graduates being fea-tured in the May 24 video. Council discussed when we might be able to worship together again and the precau-tions that will be needed. No date was set until we have more guidance from Synod.

The next council meeting will be via Zoom on May 27 at 7pm.

Joni Hagans Parish Council Secretary

April 13, 2020 7:00pm Secretary’s Report

Church Council met virtually on April 13 using Zoom. All members were present. Mary Kinney joined us.

The purpose of the meeting was to discuss ideas to keep our congregation connected during Governor DeWine’s Stay at Home order. All agreed to reach out to our mem-bers with a card, text, or email. In addition, Tyler Keener made a motion to create a short video message each week, Sharon Martin seconded, and the motion carried. Jillian offered to put the messages and music together for the video along with Kevin’s help. Mary will send an up-date to our congregation.

Julie Nolletti reported interviews for graduating seniors will be conducted over the phone.

Most likely Vacation Bible School will be rescheduled as well as the Synod Assembly.

The next council meeting will be via Zoom on April 27 at 7pm.

Joni Hagans Parish Council Secretary

April 27, 2020 7:00pm Secretary’s Report

Church Council met April 27 via Zoom. All members were present. Mary Kinney joined us. We will continue the weekly videos, complying with copyright law. Anyone in the congregation is welcome to contribute to the videos with a message, pictures, or song.

Patty Gortner emailed that the call committee has finished the ministry site profile and shared it with council for ap-proval. Rita Tegtmeier will email Patty with corrections and/or amendments to the profile. Council will approve via email when amendments are completed.

Mike Martin reported the property committee moved furniture from the fellowship hall in preparation for the remodeling. Wallpaper removal will begin May 11.

In compliance with Governor DeWine’s Stay at Home or-der, worship services will be canceled for the month of May. VBS is postponed. A date will be determined later.

The next council meeting will be via Zoom on May 11 at 7pm.

Joni Hagans, Parish Council Secretary

CALL COMMITTEE: Rob Hastings, Joe Rice, Jim Yarwood, Nancy Keener, Elaine Koch, and Patty Gortner.

The announcement shared in the April 29, 2020 weekly e-news that the synod assembly has been rescheduled for August 31, 2020 was meant to be shared as a "Save the Date" announcement. Synod Council has not made a final decision about when and where to hold a rescheduled synod assembly. The Synod Executive Committee has explored alternate dates with the John S. Knight Center. The Executive Committee is currently planning to recommend to the Synod Council that the assembly be rescheduled for August 31st. Synod Council is holding a special Zoom meeting on May 30, 2020, after which additional information will be made available. In these unprecedented times, plans may change as needs arise. We appreciate everyone's patience, understand-ing, and flexibility as we explore and decide the safest way to hold our synod assembly.

June and July Schedule: Class the 1st, 2nd, 4th Sundays

Angie Yarwood is our new Education Coordinator. She will be teaching the class. Helpers will still be appreciated: schedule will be available. Extra hands always appreciated! Thanks for sharing your time and gifts with our youth!!! ☺

Children begin worship with their family and enjoy a Chil-dren’s Moment. They are then released to go downstairs for Jr. Church the remainder of worship time. This enables children to attend a com-munion service monthly with their family to learn about the sacrament through experience.

YOUTH ACTIVITIES & EVENTS…

VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL VBS at St. Peter is currently postponed until further notice due to Covid-19 regulations and basement remodeling. It is our fervent hope to schedule some form of VBS later in the summer. Please watch for infor-mation in the Weekly Messenger emails and via the St. Peter Lutheran Youth Facebook page.

LORAC has made the difficult decision to cancel our annual BBQ & Auction due to Covid-19 regulations.

Thanks to the church and to the people for cookies and the things they brought us. We miss everybody and hope to be out soon.

God bless you,

Hi Rita (and Dave) and Church Council (and Mary!)

Thanks so much, Rita, for your card and thoughtful message to us shut-ins. How nice of the Council to think of doing that, and how nice of you, Rita, for actually writing it!

It’s been a long haul (and unfortunately not over) but luck-ily we have a pleasant place to be stranded. As you can see from the picture (below), our view is very nice when the turkeys stroll by to eat under the bird feeders. There are over thirty sometimes—and NO, turkey hunters, you may not come by with your guns!

Good luck and thank you to everyone who is making im-portant decisions about our church future. We hope eve-ryone else is holding out as well as we are, and you have just demonstrated again how kind and caring our fellow St. Peter members are. We hope you know that you are appreciated.

Love, Tom and Jeanette Loy

Faith - Blessing to you this Easter Season. Christ is Risen! Christ is Risen Indeed! Alleluia!! We continue to give thanks for the promise of new

life through Christ’s resurrection especially during this challenging coronavirus pandemic.

Hope - We look forward to the day we can safely invite you to gather in person to sing, take nature hikes, enjoy a beautiful sunset, play games, share a meal, worship, laugh in community, and deepen relationships with Christ and one another. Until then, we will continue to share updates and videos through social media. We are developing innovative ideas to offer camp experiences from a distance – before we launch any “virtual” ideas we will survey campers to find out their interests.

We will continue to monitor the information shared by the state and county health departments, medical experts, the CDC and Ohio’s Governor Mike DeWine. We will reopen the camps when it is deemed safe to do so. Maybe there will be a chance to offer some late summer day or overnight retreats…we can always hope! We also may be able to lift restrictions on people who want to come out to camp to hike or volunteer, but we will let you know when and how that will be able to safely happen.

Love - Our number one priority is to love each and every person we encounter; this includes campers, donors, retreaters, students, volunteers and employees. Because of this priority, we as a Board of Directors and leadership staff have made the difficult decision to keep our camps closed until further notice. Based on medical advice, we do not believe we are able to keep everyone safe from the coronavirus while they participate in camp programs. We will not be offering traditional camp programs this summer through Lutheran Memorial Camp (LMC), Camp Luther, LOMO Outreach and Amazing Grace Day Camps. All spring retreat and environmental education groups are cancelled also until further notice. We know people will be disappointed in this decision, but hope you under-stand that we grieve this loss with you and our concern is to keep everyone safe and healthy. The risk is too high in a camp community setting for people to be exposed to the coronavirus.

Refunds - You are eligible to receive a full refund of any deposit and registration fee you have paid, or you may choose to turn your payment into a tax deductible donation to Camp Luther, Lutheran Memorial Camp or wherever most needed in LOMO. Please email your refund request or gift information to [email protected].

Support - LOMO, LMC and Luther are blessed with faithful donors, volunteers and campers. We need your support now more than ever. The insurance company does not cover loss of revenue due to a pandemic, virus or bacteria. Many expenses of camp continue.

We also understand that you might be in financial stress due to unemployment or underemployment. Please take care of your own family’s financial needs first.

We ask that anyone who has the ability to give financially to do so – you may give online at lomocamps.org/donate. Many people have or soon will receive a $1200 government relief check, if you don’t need it please consider sharing it to secure outdoor ministries for the future.

We hope and pray you are staying safe and healthy. We ask you pray for us also as we navigate these unchartered waters. Thank you for the many ways you support your camping ministry.

TOGETHER in Spirit, we will get through this pandemic one day at a time. We look forward to the happy day when we will open the camps again and celebrate life in Christian community at your favorite place apart.

In Christ,

Penny Christensen, Executive Director Rachel Nunez, Board President

Due to Covid-19, Whit's End Community Place has changed our support group meetings to a teletherapy model for the time being. During these uncertain times we remain committed to offering cancer fighters, care-givers, and survivors a community for support that can help you with all your cancer concerns. Your health and safety are our top priority.

Some of you may be wondering what the Whit's End Community Place teletherapy model looks like? Like our group meetings it is still a 1 hour twice a month service. Unlike our group meetings you have access to one on one sessions with a licensed social worker two times a month. When you call our program coordinator, she will set you up with social worker who will then contact you to set up a time. These sessions can be scheduled for a time that works best for you and for the social worker. Call 330.287.2787 to inquire about our tel-etherapy program.
