    GENERAL

Principles of normal procedures applicationThis Section contains the normal routine operating procedures.

The checklist is used to verify that all steps of the preceding procedures havebeen accomplished. The procedures assume that all systems are operatingnormally and all safety aspects are covered. Additionally aspects of economicimportance may be included.Exterior lights, flight deck lighting and personal comfort items that have noobvious procedural requirements are not included in the checklists.

The normal checklist is applied after the appropriate procedure is completed. The Pilot Flying (PF) shall request reading of a checklist by announcing its title. All actions of a procedure are either required to operate the airplane safely inthe related phase of flight or to prepare the airplane for the following phase offlight. Each action is assigned to a specific crewmember to ensurecoordinated action. These assignments are guidance only and can bechanged as appropriate by the operator. The following crewmemberassignments are used:

LH seated pilot Captain (C) RH seated pilot First Officer (F) Pilot flying (PF) Pilot not flying (PNF)The Normal Checklist is read by the first officer when the airplane is on theground. The Normal Checklist is read by PNF when the airplane is in flight.

Normal checklist applicationNormal Checklists are two types:

    1. CHALLENGE/RESPONSE:The appropriate pilot shall respond to the challenge after havingverified the existing configuration. The challenger shall wait for theresponse before proceeding with the checklist. Upon completion heshall announce: ......CHECKLIST COMPLETED.

    2. SILENT:Reading silently, PNF shall use the checklist as a reference to verifythat prescribed actions have been performed. Upon completion heshall announce: . . . . . CHECKLIST COMPLETED.

If the actual configuration is not in accordance with the checklist standard, corrective action shall be initiated. If corrective action is not possible, theresponse must be modified to reflect the actual situation (specific answer).
