Discuss the importance of where we place our affections.

Colossians 3:1-3

King James Version (KJV)

If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the

right hand of God.2 Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.3 For ye are

dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God.

The word affection in verse 2 means ______________________________________

o  When we do this, 1 John 4:17 will become an awesome reality in our lives.

ACT ON IT: The Word of God brings faith to believe God and that faith yields corresponding

action. How can we apply this truth to our lives?

We need to correct our thinking – Read: Phil 4:8

According to scripture, it is our responsibility to set our affections (thinking) on these things. God

graciously reminds us by the Holy Spirit, but he does not do the setting for us. It’s important that our

will line up with His will for our life. Confess Phil 4:8 over yourself and make it personal (i.e. “I will

think on what is true today.”, “I will think on what is pure today.” etc.). When you face opposition in

your mind confess this out loud. YOU can bring your mind into alignment with heavenly things and as

a result stay in your rightful position, receiving all God has intended you to have!
