The top four batters in Indy's lineup -- Kevin Newman, Max Moroff, Jordan Luplow and Danny Ortiz -- combined to go 7-for-14 with a triple, two RBI and two runs scored. Kingham delivered the first complete game of his career with ultimate efficiency, as he endured just two three-ball counts the entire game. His bid at perfection ended on an infield single by Zach Collier that opened the fourth, and a one-homer by Brandon Snyder in the seventh ruined his shutout. Regardless, the right-hander improved to 4-0 over his last four starts. A GEM FOR THE KING: Nick Kingham improved to 7-6 on the season by earning his fourth straight win last night. Over his last four starts, the 25-year-old has posted a 0.88 ERA (3 ER in 30.2 IP). During that stretch he has walked just three batters, all coming in his previous start that lasted 7.2 frames on Aug. 4 at Louisville. He has piled up 21 strikeouts in those four starts combined, with his eight punchouts last night matching a season high accomplished two other times. TWO-HITTERS IN THE VICTORY FIELD ERA: Kingham's two-hitter was the seventh nine-inning two-hitter by a Tribe pitcher in the Victory Field era (since 1996), and just the third to take place in the Circle City. On Aug. 20, 2004, Ben Hendrickson fired a two-hit shutout in a 1-0 victory over Louisville at the Vic. On Aug. 31, 2000, Allen Levrault allowed one run on two hits over nine frames in a 5-1 win over the Bats in Downtown Indianapolis. Casey Sadler also threw a two-hitter on May 15, 2015, vs. Norfolk in a 5-1 win, but his was a seven-inning complete game. NO PITCH CLOCK NECESSARY: Last night's game lasted just 1 hour and 58 minutes, the quickest nine-inning game for the Tribe in 2017. Previously, Indy's quickest nine-inning affair this season came on Aug. 4 at Louisville, a game completed in 2 hours and 7 minutes. Kingham has been the starting pitcher for the Indians in both of those games. GAME SCORE: Kingham's outing last night resulted in a game score of 89, tied with Steven Brault for the highest game score by a Tribe pitcher in 2017. Brault posted an 89 game score on June 29 vs. Durham when he threw eight shutout innings, scattering four hits and no walks with nine strikeouts. Game score formula was created by Bill James and updated by Tom Tango: 1. Start with 40 points 2. Add two points for each out recorded (six points for every complete inning pitched) 3. Add one additional point for every strikeout 4. Remove two points for every walk and hit allowed 5. Remove three points for every run allowed (earned or unearned) 6. Remove six additional points for every home run allowed HELP YOURSELF: Kingham helped his own cause at the plate last night when he dropped down a suicide squeeze to score Erich Weiss from third base in the fourth inning. The RBI was Kingham's first of the season and just the fourth of his professional career. He had one RBI in 2016 with Double-A Altoona and two back in 2013 for the Curve. KEVIN!: Kevin Newman extended his hitting streak to seven games after going 2-for-4 at the dish last night. During the stretch, the recent- ly-turned 24-year-old is batting .276 (8-for-29) with one double, one RBI and two runs scored. Catcher Jacob Stallings also has an active six-game hitting streak. Stallings has hit .333 (6-for-18) with one RBI and four runs scored during his streak. ANGEL ON THE MOUND: Reliever Angel Sanchez tossed another scoreless inning Monday night, working a 1-2-3 eighth on three ground-ball outs. Over his last 11 appearances, the righty has gone 1-1 with a 0.63 ERA (1 ER in 14.1 IP). He has yielded 10 hits and two walks with 18 strikeouts in those 11 outings since July 4. TAKING CARE OF BUSINESS: The Indians have won five of their first six of 20 consecutive games against teams below .500. Indy began a stretch on Friday at Louisville with 28 of its final 31 games against teams below .500, with a three-game home series against Columbus (61- 57) the last series against a team with a winning record. INDIANS PROSPECTUS: Indianapolis currently has eight of the top 30 prospects in the Pirates organization, according to Baseball America. Shortstop Kevin Newman is the highest at No. 5, and he's followed by left-hander Steven Brault (No. 7), catcher Elias Diaz (No. 10), right-hander Nick Kingham (No. 11), infielder Max Moroff (No. 13) and right-handers Tyler Eppler (No. 18), Clay Holmes (No. 20) and Dovydas Neverauskas (No. 24). ESMIL ROGERS: 31-year-old Esmil Rogers will start tonight for Syracuse. The right-hander is 1-0 with a 2.45 ERA (3 ER in 11.0 IP) in two starts this year for the Chiefs after signing with the Nationals earlier this month. He spent the latter half of 2015 and all of 2016 in the Korean Base- ball Organization pitching for the Hanwha Eagles. He went 8-5 with a 3.41 ERA (43 ER in 113.1 IP) in 16 starts overseas. Rogers first broke into the majors in 2009 with Colorado and pitched for the Rockies in 2010, 2011 and 2012 as well. He has also pitched for Cleveland (2012), Toronto (2013 and 2014) and the Yankees (2014 and 2015). Rogers has faced Indy twice in his career, once with Buffalo in 2014 and another with Scranton/W-B in 2015, both starts coming at Victory Field. He is 1-0 with a 3.68 ERA (3 ER in 7.1 IP) in those outings combined.
