ike has created for training jum

pers is by far the most effective and productive

approach to the sport.

As an athlete, Mike w

as a high school all American in the

decathlon and an all-state pole vaulter. He is currently a masters

pole vaulter, high jumper and long jum

per, gaining all-American

status in all three. In 2008 Mike w

as the Police and Fire World

Champion in the long jum

p. In 2013 he jumped 6’5” in the high

jump to w

in the Masters Indoor National title.

SETH MCGUFFIN is in his fifth season as

assistant track & field coach at Ohio W

esleyan University. McGuffin w

orks with

the Bishop throwers and serves as the

team’s strength and conditioning coach.

McGuffin is a 1996 graduate of Lynchburg

College. During his undergraduate career, he w

as a 5-time All-Am

erican in the shot put and the discus, finishing as national runner-up in the shot put at the 1994 NCAA Division III outdoor cham

pionship meet.

LINH NGUYEN is in his first year as the head coach of the cross country and track & field program

s at the University of Toledo. Nguyen com

en’s outdoor track & field team

s. Under the leadership of Nguyen, the Spartans becam

e a perennial contender in the Southern Conference, culm

history in 2011-12. Nguyen was nam

ed Southern Conference Cross Country Coach of the Year in 2011 after leading both the m

en’s and wom

en’s teams to conference titles. Junior Paul

Chelimo earned All-Am

erican honors under Nguyen’s guidance, the first runner in school history to earn that distinction.

DALE GABOR is the OHSAA’s administrator for cross

country and track & field and serves as the head rules interpreter in both sports. He is an instructor in the OHSAA’s Fundam

entals of Coaching program. He retired

after 25 years as the athletic director at Cleveland St. Ignatius High School. Dale w

as a 2010 inductee into the Northeast District Athletic Adm

inistrators Hall of Fame.

CASEY GANTT is in his fifth season as the assistant coach for m

en’s and wom

en’s cross country and track & field. He helped coach Josh Colbert to the national title in the long jum

p at the 2014 NCAA III Outdoor Championships. Gantt

started at ONU in early 2011 as the recruiting assistant before taking over the assistant role. He brings coaching experience as a volunteer coach at Carthage College and

from Grayslake Central High School (Ill.).

Additionally, Gantt has a bachelor’s degree from Illinois State, w

here he was a

four-year varsity and multiple tim

e All-Conference athlete. He was also nam

ed an scholar athlete and w

as inducted into the Lake County (Ill.) Athletics Hall of Fame

in 2010. Gantt earned his master’s degree in sport m

anagement from

the United States Sports Academ

y. Gantt has also earned his USATF Level 1 certification

QUEEN HARRISON Queen Quedith Harrison grew up w

ith a father w

ho had her rise with her siblings before school to

do jumping jacks, pushups, sit-ups and run. Harrison has

said of her name, “w

hen your dad names you Queen, you’re

kind of expected to be great in whatever you put your m

ind to.” Harrison w

as indeed great as she qualified for the 2008 Olym

pics as the youngest mem

ber of the team at only

19-years-old. Harrison finished seventh in the semifinal of the Olym

pic Games

and became the first athlete from

the Virginia Tech track and field program to

compete in the Olym

pics. Harrison also won the 2010 NCAA Outdoor 100m

and 400m

hurdles to become the first w

oman to w

in both NCAA titles in the same

year. After her standout year that also included winning the NCAA Indoor 60m

hurdles as w

ell, Harrison was nam

ed the recipient of the Bowerm

an award,

which is given annually to the top collegiate track and field athlete.

MATT KENDEIGH is an OHSAA Official. M

att has been involved w

ith officiating for 11 years working Track and Field,

Cross-Country, Basketball, Football and Volleyball. In his 11 years M

att has worked the OHSAA State Track and Field

Meet and State Football Cham

pionships. As the secretary of the Lorain County Track Officials Association, M

att has offered a class for potential Track and Field Officials.

KATHY LANESE is in her 14th season at Case Western

Reserve University as the Head Cross Country coach as w

ell 7th as an assistant Track and Field Coach. Lanese has coached a total of 12 NCAA All-Am

ericans in cross country and track. She guided Esther Erb, 2008 NCAA Cham

pion in the wom

en’s 10,000-meter run, and has

led multiple distance runners and relay team

s to school record-breaking perform

ances.

During her career, Lanese has earned a multitude of coach of the year aw

ards. She has been tabbed Ohio Track and Cross Country Coaches Association Coach of the Year seven tim

es (most recently in 2013), USTFCCCA Great Lakes Region

Coach of the Year once (2006) and head of the UAA Wom

en’s Cross Country Coaching Staff of the Year tw

ice (2006 and 2008). Lanese’s teams have also

represented CWRU at every NCAA Cross Country Cham

pionship since 2006.

Lanese was a scholarship athlete w

ho competed in m

iddle-distance and distance events. She w

as a mem

ber of a Bobcat track team that w

on two

consecutive Mid-Am

erican Conference Championships (1983-84) and the

All-Ohio Cross Country Championship in 1982

TODD BLACK had a successful tenure at BGSU earning several All-M

AC honors in both track and cross-country including a 1500-m

eter MAC

champion title in 1993. He w

as also a NCAA qualifier in the 800 and also tw

o time qualifier for

the Olympic Trials in 1992 and 1996. In 1996 he

advanced to the finals with a tim

e of 1:46.16. Black is currently in his 12th season as Head Cross Country Coach and Assistant Track Coach at Toledo St. John’s Jesuit. Coach Black has 7 conference cham

pionship titles and has taking either a team or a

runner to the OSHAA Cross Country championships 10 out the 12

seasons. He has had the privilege of coaching several All-Ohio student athletes in both cross country and track and recently had a 2nd place finish at the Ohio State Cross Country Cham

pionships in Columbus.

SAMANTHA BLUSKE is an assistant track and

cross country coach for the University of Toledo. She helped lead the Rockets to the NCAA Cross Cham

pionship birth in 2014. Prior to coming to

Toledo, she was a volunteer assistant at the

Iowa State University

Bluske’s athletic career was com

prised with tim

e at Illinois State and Iow

a State. She enjoyed a much heralded

collegiate career at both Iowa State and Illinois State. As a freshm

an and sophom

ore at Illinois State, Bluske earned track and field All-M

issouri Valley Conference Honors and qualified for the NCAA W

est Regional in the 10,000-meter.

After transferring to Iowa State for her junior year, Bluske m

ade a huge im

pact on the program and w

captain her senior year. The Chaseburg, W

I native was the Big 12 indoor 5,000-m

pion and helped lead the Cyclones to three consecutive Big 12 team

championships and M

pionships.

KRIS BOEY is the head men’s and w

omen’s track

coach at Ohio Wesleyan University w

here he led the Battling Bishops to the top of the North Coast Athletic Conference. During Boey’s tenure at Ohio W

esleyan, the Bishops produced 131 NCAA qualifiers, 30 All-Am

ericans, 28 NCAC Athlete of the Year selections, 311 NCAC cham

pions, 813 All-NCAC honorees, and broke 117 school records. The w

Alan attended “Emerging Elite Coaches Cam

p” at the Olympic

Training Center in Chula Vista, California in 2007 and taught a clinic at Pole Vault Sum

mit in 2007. He taught OHSAA pole vault

safety clinics for three years. Alan is the founder of The Pole Vault Factory vault club at Oberlin College. At least one of Alan’s

athletes have vaulted 12' each year he has coached. He has coached one 16' high school m

ale vaulter, (state champ and state record holder), one 13' high school

female vaulter, (state cham

p and state record holder) and one 13'7" college fem

ale vaulter. Alan also had 1st and 2nd place vaulters at the state meet tw

ice.

omen’s track and cross country coach at

the University of Chicago. While at the U of C, Jim

coached 13 All-Americans

and four NCAA champions. He w

country and assistant track coach at Vanderbilt University. Jim currently

works for ASICS Am

erica Corporation as the Team Sales Supervisor.

J.D. SHEPPARD II, PT, DPT is a graduate of Firelands High School w

here he was a state

champion and state runner-up in the 800 m

eter run. He then continued his runner career as a NCAA division 1 athlete at Youngstow

n State University. After his collegiate career J.D. continued his education at Ohio University

where he earned his Doctor of Physical Therapy degree in 2012.

Currently, J.D. works at the M

ercy Health and Recreation Center in Am

erherst, Ohio. His career background includes the developm

ent of a running analysis program at M

ercy as well as

experience in working w

ith athletes at the high school collegiate and professional levels.

MARC SYLVESTER grew

up in the Shaker Square neighborhood of Cleveland. He entered into track and field at an early age running in the CYO system

. He then attended Saint Ignatius High school w

here he turned his focus to football and

sprinting. The team needed to find a fourth m

ember of

the 4x8 and Marc tried out. He quickly found a new

calling in track and field.

After a successful high school career that culm

inated with a state cham

pionship and an individual national cham

pionship, he went on to

attend the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. There he w

ent on to be a three time All-Am

erican and w

as part of the 2002 indoor national cham

pionship team. M

arc then had a brief stint w

ith the Nike Farm Team

and the Oregon Track Club elite running under the legendary Frank Gagliano. M

ost recently Marc coached in
