First Communion Celebration Next Weekend (April 30/May 1)
The First Eucharist children, with the help of their parents and families, have been learning what it means to be a member of a Eucharistic community. Next weekend, they will be coming to the Table of the Lord for the first time at the 4:30, 8:30 and 10:30 Masses. It is truly a time of joy for them and for us, as we are all touched by sacramental celebrations. They remind us that we are part of the Body of Christ and that we share in this sacred meal. Please keep the children and their families in your prayers this coming week as they prepare for next weekend’s celebration.

$403 went to St. Martin’s Place this past weekend. There will be NO parish sharing recipient this weekend due to the Catholic Home Missions Appeal diocesan collection.
Bethany House, a Catholic Worker house of hospitality, opened its doors in 1978 to serve the needs of homeless women and their children. Since then, thousands of families have come for housing, food, clothing, and advocacy. The ministry is supported completely through donations. A while ago they relocated to the former convent of Our Lady of Perpetual Help. The Sisters of St. Joseph have a connection to this ministry. A video about Bethany House can be found at the SSJ website. Next weekend's parish sharing will be donated here.

Adult Altar Serving - Tom Kurmis
Over time as an adult server at Our Lady of Mercy, Holy Name, and now St. Charles, I have appreciated the chance to get to know our spiritual leaders. Fr. Firpo, Fr. Statt, Fr. Pius, Fr. Gagnier, Deacon Dick, and Fr. Ted. I have had the opportunity to get to know them as people... not just someone way up there on the altar. This connection and their deep devotion to God has greatly enhanced my spiritual life by association as well. Feeling closer to the Lord has been a great benefit to me in coping with life.. If you are in a position to do so enhance your own spiritual life by becoming a server and grasping this opportunity to get closer to the Lord and the folks who do such a good job of bringing Him to us.

LIGHTHOUSE CDS
Check out the Lighthouse Catholic Media
kiosks at the back of church! This is the
Year of Mercy and April 3rd
was Divine Mercy
Sunday (instituted by JPII). Fr. Chris Alar,
MIC, reveals the urgency to live and share the
powerful message of Divine Mercy through the CD
The Necessity of Divine Mercy. He explains the
basics of the Divine Mercy feast, image, novena,
chaplet, and hour of mercy, and how to incorporate
them into your spiritual life.
The purpose of all of the materials (CDs,
pamphlets, booklets, books) is to help Catholics learn
and live their faith and to pass it on!
Father Ted’s Catechism for Seniors... by Rev. Edwin Metzger
From last time: We have made a Covenant with
other Christians by renewing our Baptism
promises during Eastertime.
Q. Do the "other Christians" know about this?
A. Some do. For instance, The Interfaith
Alliance of Rochester regularly sends me
emails about the works of mercy that
Christian people of Rochester accomplish
together. And we work with people of other
Faiths, too, notably Jewish, but also Moslem.
Q. Does the Catechism say that all of this is
'kosher'?
A. The contributors to the Catechism do not use
that word, but we have looked at our
relationship with other Christian Churches
and their followers in the past. For example
number 870: "...many elements of
sanctification and of truth are found outside
(the Catholic Church's) visible confines". This
sounds less than exciting to me. Personally, I
have experienced the power of the Baptism
Covenant that unites us by attending live
worship services in Lutheran and Presbyterian
churches. This was when I was a Master's
degree student at Union Theological Seminary
in New York City shortly after the close of
Vatican Council II. Now we have the example
of Pope Francis, who plans to attend next
year’s event in Sweden celebrating the 500th
Anniversary of the beginning of the
Protestant Reformation.
I think I'll stop right there and wait for your
emails or letters because you may have strong
feelings one way or another. You can also talk
about this when you come to weekend Mass
during Eastertime.

Confirmation 2016
Gifted to Serve
On April 7, eight young people from
St. Charles Borromeo celebrated the
Sacrament of Confirmation at Sacred Heart Cathedral.
How exiting it was to see these candidates, after
months of preparation, joyfully reaffirm their
baptismal promises and be anointed with the Oil of
Chrism.
Congratulations to all the newly confirmed! Your
energy and enthusiasm will bring new life to all of us!

Volunteers Needed
for Visitation Team
Our Visitation Team is in need of volunteers. We visit
people who are in nursing homes, hospitals, or
confined to home and are unable to get to church.
Our goal is to bring them Holy Communion, as well as
to be a connection to their church family so they will
know they are still a very important part of our church
community. If you are interested in finding out more
about this very rewarding ministry, call Peggy Malvaso
(x119). Thank you!
