Now I'm not trying to be funny here, but not every business launched is positioned to get paid!

I learned early on that to be successful as a modern day entrepreneur, you can’t follow the same old-school playbook. Not

only do you have to offer a product or service that is game-changing, you have to find new and innovative ways to get that

game-changing product seen and heard!

One of the best ways to get seen and heard is to get your business and brand engaging potential customers online. That means leveraging tools like social media, content marketing, email marketing and video marketing. When done right, you can create an online system that turns your business into a well-oiled-traffic-generating-money-making machine.

This is where you need to get your mind right! When it comes to optimizing your business to make money, it takes planning, persistence, and patience. Prepare your mind to learn the tools, put in the work, and do what it takes to collect those coins!

The riches are in the niches! Create your unique niche, know what problems you will solve and the target audience you will serve.

Create your ideal customer profile and be very clear about the customer you want to work with.

Determine your money goals from the very beginning. How much money you want to generate dictates every major decision you will need to make from here on out.

Assess your assets. Know what resources you have and how much money, time, experience you are (or are not) working with. Pinpoint the areas you need help in or need to improve to be successful.

If you don’t have a website yet, create a timeline for the (re)launch of your site.

Research niche specific keywords and trending topics. (Use tools like Google Keywords Tool, Google Trends, Pinterest smart search)

Research and identify your top 5 competitors. See what they are doing and how you can do it better.

Come up with your branded business name and purchase domain name if you do not already have one. If you re a personal brand, it’s a good idea to use your name for your site. (GoDaddy and NameCheap)

Choose your website platform. Will it be WordPress.org, Squarespace, Shopify or something else!

Purchase and setup your hosting (Siteground, Hostgator) if using a self hosted website platform like

WordPress or Squarespace and test your site speed.

Install SSL certificate, reroute any old URLs using a plugin like 301 Redirect and then add reminders that transactions are safe through your site.

Add logos or banner reminders that transactions are safe through your site.

Setup a branded email account for your business (i.e. [email protected], not an @gmail.com or @yahoo.com account).

Choose, install and test (on all browsers) a mobile responsive website theme (Themeforest.com) to ensure ease of use.

Create a brand board for your site that includes colors, fonts, graphical elements, signature images, photos, illustrations, textures and style guidelines you will use to customize your site.

If you are a personal brand or persona add professional, personality driven photos of yourself to your site and social media channels.

Create graphics + mockups of products (free and paid) that can be displayed on your site.

Add testimonials + social proof logos with features from other media outlets to boost your authority.

Incorporate social media platforms so visitors can connect with you on the platforms they are hanging out on. (Pinterest boards, Instagram feed, Facebook page, Twitter feed, etc.)

blog blueprint

Identify and prioritize the most important goals. This will help you build your blog in a way to supports your overall objectives. (ex. Primary goal = sell digital products)

Identify what your visitors are looking for when they visit your site. This will help you prioritize what types of information you’ll need to add on each of your website pages.

Write down ALL the things you’d want to communicate to a visitor and the actions you want them to take when they visit your site.

Based on your blog goals and desired visitor actions, add essential pages and categories to your site navigation menu (ex. Homepage, About, Blog, Shop, Products, FAQs, Contact)

Create content categories and add to navigation menu, footer and blog sidebar.

Design 2-3 home page banners that highlight specials, promos or freebies. Make sure they are featured above the fold in the header or main banner area of your site.

Feature popular products on your homepage along with call to action buttons that lead customers to the next desired step.

Latest, recommended or most popular blog posts should be highlighted on homepage.

Search browser icon should be clear and visible preferably near top of site.

Write a professional privacy policy and make sure your site is in compliance with GDPR guidelines.

Create terms & conditions page. Add link to your website footer.

Create affiliate disclaimer page if necessary. Add link to your website footer.

Make sure your refund, exchange and guarantee policies are clear and easy to locate.

blogging + content creation

Map out a clear content creation strategy. (topics, average post length, keywords, promo)

Determine the different types of blog posts and content you will create. How-to posts, interviews, product reviews, video tutorials, podcasts, cause studies, testimonials, social media captions, ebooks.

Using your posts, freebies, free courses and challenges, how can you create a content funnel that naturally leads to your paid product offering?

Come up with the tone and style in which you will create content. (Make sure it’s true to YOU!)

Decide the medium in which you will share your content (written, audio, video, combo)

Create an editorial schedule and specify the frequency (for instance, 2x per month) that you will create these types of content.

Create and save blog posts templates to ensure a consistent flow and vibe for all published content.

Create featured images or thumbnails to help promote blog content across social networks. (know appropriate dimensions to ensure photos load properly)

Use supporting graphics and images in your blog posts. If photos not taken by you make sure you follow copyright compliant rules.

Create infographics to help promote and sell products,

Monetize your blog content by embedding links to recommended products within your blog posts. This can be affiliate products or you own products and services.

Test that your comments work.

Incorporate a content repurposing strategy to boost audience reach and exposure.

seo strategies

Install third-party SEO plugin (Yoast, All-in-One SEO Pack) to ensure blog posts are optimized before publishing.

Create meta data (search-engine friendly keywords) to use in your post URL, blog titles, product titles, product descriptions, and headings.

Use keywords in 1-2% of your post content which equates to 5-7 times/500 words.

Rename and use keywords in alt tags, titles and descriptions of photos, images and infographics.

Keep page titles under 60 characters so they are not (cut off) in the search results.

Keep meta data descriptions under 150 characters.

Improve your site speed. (reliable hosting, reduce plugins, update theme, compress images, etc.)

Resize your featured images so they fit the content width of your blog posts.

Limit third-party plugins and do not download more than necessary.

Keep your site and plugins updated and make sure your WordPress software + themes are updated.

Verify that your passwords are strong.

Add security certificates and seals on your website if necessary.

Install plugin that regularly backs up your website files and content. (UpdraftPlus, BackupBuddy, etc.)

Check regularly for broken links and remove any broken links you find.

Customize your 404 page to redirect visitors back to appropriate content.

Don’t delete pages or products without creating redirects.

Add Amazon Payments, Shopify payments is using Shopify.

Learn how to create coupons, discount codes and limited time offers. Test coupons to ensure they are applied and work properly at check out.

Walk through your payment process to ensure it works properly.

Create and verify “new order” follow up emails and notifications are setup correctly.

If using third party tools like Zapier, make sure triggers + integrations are activated and work properly.

Add functionality to track orders if this feature is not native to store/product delivery platform.

Install Google Merchant or other e-commerce plugins if needed.

Install an upsell app if necessary along with an Abandoned Cart Plugin to maximize sales.

Research and install affiliate plugin if you plan to have an affiliate program for your products.

Offer a sample or low ticket product if customers are hesitant to buy or want to try you out first.

Research distributors, resources, product development tools if necessary.

Add products to your store, course platform or product page.

Include a branded product title. (SEO optimized, proofread)

Create a professional and visually compelling sales pages that tells a story of the transformation customers will receive when they use your product or service. (benefits over features)

Include a creative product description for each product that highlights what makes your product stand out from the competition. (SEO optimized, proofread)

Create featured high-quality thumbnail image along with multiple product images to be added to product page (Add zoom-in functionality if helpful)

Watermark products or portfolio photos if necessary.

Add videos to demonstrate how product works or how it can be used.

Add product information, specifications, quantities, delivery times, etc.

If selling a physical product (planner, t-shirts, jewelry, etc.) make sure to include materials used, dimensions, colors, weights, washing or use instructions, etc.

Don’t forget selling points such as sale price, free shipping, or exclusive offers.

If selling digital products upload to delivery platform (Woocommerce, Teachable, Membership site) and make sure all download links, PDFs, zip files or videos work properly.

Add and test add-to-cart or buy-now button on each product page.

Create and link buy now button to product sales page.

Confirm correct pricing information. Include sales or discounted pricing.

Upload/add all products to your store including related products to add-on and upsell/downsell.

Confirm availability of each product. Show scarcity or exclusivity to urge people to buy now.

Add shipping and tax calculators on product pages if necessary.

Add a currency converter if necessary.

Add comments sections or activate review feature so people can discuss products.

To make customer transactions easier, accept all payment methods. (Stripe, PayPal, Credit Card, etc.)

Give customers the option to purchase as guest or create an account after they place their order.

Provide customers the lowest shopping costs possible,

Offer free shipping or other incentives for volume purchases a(quantity or higher priced items)

Offer multiple shipping options (ground, express, overnight, etc.)

Show estimated delivery dates, times and how package will arrive.

If you sell digital products or services explain how customer will get access to their product or service.

List clearly any shipping deadlines, limitations or restrictions. Particularly during high volume seasons (Black Friday, Christmas, Valentines, etc.)

Verify correct shipping for domestic and International orders.

If you only ship locally, nationally or to specific countries remove purchasing access for excluded countries if necessary.

Add checkout buttons on top and bottom of your website pages.

Make sure promo codes can be applied and work properly.

Make sure order page is easy to read, decluttered and professional in appearance.

Make sure security and payment seals are prominent on checkout page.

Give customer option to continue shopping after adding products to cart.

If you sell high ticket items, consider offering a payment plan or installment options.

Test the checkout process to ensure a quality customer experience and to ensure everything works.

Ask for a review or testimonial in exchange for a discount or other incentive. (free item, feature, etc.)

Offer a discount or coupon code if customer has not ordered again to encourage repeat customers.

If you have a loyalty or VIP program encourage customers to join.

Send promo offer or downsell for abandoned carts.

Make it easy for customers to track their orders. Provide tracking link in email, SMS notifications, etc.

If you are selling physical products, add branded cards and thank you cards inside packaging.
