MAGGIE: ¿A dónde iras Annie? KATE: But if Ms. Hannigan catches you, you’ll be in for it. MAGGIE: We’ll all be in for it. ANNIE 1: Wish me luck. I’ll miss you. Vístanse mis queridas caquitas de chancho. PEPPER: But it’s 4 o’clock in the morning! HANNIGAN 1: (mimicking) But it’s 4 o’clock in the morning! I know. Little Annie here tried to run away….again. So as a welcome home gift, you’re all gonna get down on your knobby little knees and clean this dump until it shines like the top of the Chrysler Building. Whaddya say? ORPHANS: We love you, Miss Hannigan! HANNIGAN 1: (sneering) And I love you! Now, get to work! ORPHANS: Yes, Ms. Hannigan. Girls wave to Mr. Bundles then stand around chatting happily) ORPHANS: Adiós Señor Bundles! HANNIGAN 1: (enters) What are you all just standing around for? You’re supposed to clean the kitchen and the bathroom before breakfast, my little pig droppings, and if you skip the corners, there will be no lunch! LIZZIE: What’s for breakfast? Hot mush? HANNIGAN 1: No, you don’t get hot mush this morning. ORPHANS: Yay!!! HANNIGAN 1: You get cold mush. ORPHANS: Aww… HANNIGAN 1: Now….(blows whistle) ROLL CALL! They gave me half of a silver locket and kept the other half. That’s how I’ll know they’re my parents!

RUTH JOHNSON: Annie y ¿cuantos años tienes? ANNIE 3: Once. RUTH JOHNSON: Así que no has visto a tus padres durante once años enteros. Can you imagine folks? (Shakes head) Being a child and not seeing your parents for eleven years? Not remember what they look like? But always having hope that one day you will see them again? WARBUCKS 2: (Casual and charismatic) Hola, todos. Este es Oliver Warbucks. (Loud cheering by everyone backstage) RUTH JOHNSON: That’s right folks! We have the ONE AND ONLY Oliver Warbucks on the show with us today! Oliver, talk to me about your proposition. WARBUCKS 2: Well, the holidays are about the spirit of giving right? I wanna give Annie the gift of a lifetime. I wanna help her find her parents. So, if you have the other half to her locket, come to my mansion. If you’re truly her parents, I’ll give you $50,000 dollars to help you start a new life together. RUTH JOHNSON: WOW! $50,000 dollars! That’s very generous of you Oliver. You heard it here first folks! Billionaire Oliver Warbucks will give $50,000 dollars to Annie’s parents this holiday season. So if you are Annie’s parents, visit Oliver Warbuck’s mansion and bring the other half of Annie’s locket. ANNIE 3: I can’t wait to meet you! SCENE 4 – HUDSON STREET ORPHANAGE (The Orphans are sitting around the radio in Ms. Hannigan’s office.)

MAGGIE: No Annie. Ella siempre nos recordará. Yo lo sé! LIZZIE: Wish I was on the radio! JULY: I want to be famous, too. PIPER: Ugh, not me. SAMMY: Yeah… Who wants to be on the dumb old radio? TESSIE: I do! I want to be a famous actress, telling stories and entertaining thousands of people! CHRYSLER: That’s not surprising. TESSIE: I’ll be the next Ruth Johnson! (Crosses to center imitating Bert Healy) So, from the Ruth Johnson show family, this is Ruth Johnson saying...

Song: “NEVER FULLY DRESSED” - Orphans ● Start with “who cares what you’re wearing”

MOLLY: Annie was on the radio, Miss Hannigan. She’s famous. KATE: And they’re gonna find her parents. AGNES: And pay them....50...50...

DUFFY: Fifty Thousand Dollars! SAMMY: Boy, for that kind of money, I’d be Annie’s mother! HANNIGAN 3: Yeah, I heard it. Next thing, she’ll be in the funny papers. (Orphans laughing) Now, get outta here, get to bed. (As the ORPHANS run off, TESSIE steps on Miss HANNIGAN’s foot) HANNIGAN 3: Podrido. Ella nunca va extrañar $50,000 dólares. Qué no haría yo con 50, 000! . (ROOSTER enters in disguise.) ROOSTER: Hello, ma’am. Soy Ralph Mudge. HANNIGAN 3: Si, lo he estado. ROOSTER: My wife and I left a little baby here on the front stoop. We left half of a silver locket around her neck… HANNIGAN 3: Wait a minute! You’re Annie’s father?! ROOSTER: Oh I’m so glad you remember! Yes her name was Annie. HANNIGAN 3: You should head straight to the Warbucks mansion, sir, because Annie isn’t here anymore! (ROOSTER rips of his disguise.) ROOSTER: Gotcha, sis! HANNIGAN 3: Rooster!? ROOSTER: Jaja!

What’re you doing?! ROOSTER: I’m takin’ a ride down Easy Street, sister!

Song: “EASY STREET” – Rooster, Hannigan ROOSTER: So, here’s my plan: I use the disguise to fool Warbucks into thinkin’ I’m Annie’s father. We get the kid and boom! The fifty thousand dollars, too! But I need your help to make it extra convincing. But what he doesn’t know is… (She pulls out the locket) I have the other half of the locket. ROOSTER: Fifty thousand smackaroos… (Lights out as ROOSTER and HANNIGAN laugh evilly.) SCENE 5 – MR. WARBUCKS’ MANSION (ANNIE stands with WARBUCKS and GRACE. WARBUCKS speaks to ANNIE.) ANNIE 3: ¿Cara amistosa? WARBUCKS 2: Well… a familiar face at least. You just let me know if you’re feeling uncomfortable in any way, okay? (ANNIE nods. Just then, MISS HANNIGAN walks in.)

(ROOSTER enters, back in disguise.) ROOSTER: Aquí está! Es Annie! GRACE 2: Hola señor Mudge. Lo hemos estado esperando. ROOSTER: Ohhh dear, you’re beautiful! It’s been so long. We were dumb to leave you, but we did what we had to to survive. GRACE 2: That’s a touching story. WARBUCKS 2: May I see some ID please? ROOSTER: Oh of course. Here’s my driver’s licence. WARBUCKS 2: (Whispering to Grace) Hmm, well it does look real. HANNIGAN 3: Annie, he even has the other half of your locket! ROOSTER: (shakes WARBUCK’s hand) Oh yes, yes! (Holds it out next to ANNIE’s necklace) Podrías mirar ha esto! ROOSTER: Dinero? WARBUCKS 2: Yes, the fifty thousand dollars. GRACE 2: You didn’t know that Mr. Warbucks was offering $50,000 to Annie’s parents?

23

ROOSTER: Oh no! I don’t need any money...but if I did have $50,000 I could bring Annie up right. WARBUCKS 2: (sadly) I’ll go get my checkbook… ANNIE 3: (suspicious) Wait, Mr. Warbucks. (Turns to ROOSTER) If you are my real dad, then when is my birthday? (ROOSTER doesn’t have answer. He looks to HANNIGAN who shrugs.) ANNIE 3: Hmm, funny (pulls out the letter) 11 years ago, you said my birthday was in October. HANNIGAN 3: Idiots! GRACE 2: Rooster? I thought you said your name was Ralph Mudge! WARBUCKS 2: You are under arrest, sir. And you too, Miss Hannigan. HANNIGAN 3: Me? No! Mr. Warbucks… Oliver...I ain’t done nothin’ to you. I’ve always been...(Seeing she’s getting nowhere) Annie, tell ‘em how good and nice I always was to you. Never tell a lie. POLICE OFFICER: I’m afraid it’s too late for that.

WARBUCKS 2: Well, that was an unfortunate hiccup to our day. Annie, I’m so sorry. I wish there was more I could do. ANNIE 3: Mr. Warbucks, it just doesn’t seem like my parents are out there anymore. What if...what if you adopted me? WARBUCKS 2: Oh Annie, I love you so much. I’d be honored. GRACE! Call the Judge and we’ll have the adoption tonight, and a big party too, to celebrate! ANNIE 3: Can we invite my friends and my dog Sandy? WARBUCKS 2: Oh umm, of course! Ms. Pew, would you please go to the orphanage and bring the children here. They can all stay here until we find someone better to replace Ms. Hannigan. ANNIE 3: Podemos comer helado y maíz asado?

SONG - I DON’T NEED ANYTHING BUT YOU (ORPHANS run in, very excited) ORPHANS: Annie!! ANNIE 3: Leaping Lizards! DUFFY: Gee, what a great place! CHRYSLER: Ugh, who’d want to live in this dump! MAGGIE: Yo debería! TOMMY: Está hermosa! ANNIE 3: Bienvenidos todos! There’s presents for all of us! TESSIE: Oh, my goodness! Look at them all.

TOMMY: Que alguien me arañe! JULY: This is the greatest thing since sliced bread! SUZIE: When have you ever had sliced bread? ORPHANS: Hooray! GRACE 2: Entonces no tenemos que trabajar más! ORPHANS: Hooray! WARBUCKS 2: Instead, you’ll have classrooms and teachers... ORPHANS: Hoo...(stop, then moan) ANNIE 3: Oh, but listen -- no more mush! ORPHANS: Hooray! WARBUCKS 2: This is going to be the beginning of a wonderful new life for all of us.
