He introduced the 3 Networkscooperation,whichhasbeenongoingsince2016,andhighlightedtheimportanceoftheyouthinformationnetworksinsupportingaccesstoservicesforallyoungpeople.Hisspeechwasfollowedbywelcomingwordsfromeveryoneonthepanel.Keyelementstohighlight:MartaCarrióPalou,BalearicIslandsGovernmentDirectorofYouth-“Wehaveabigchallengetogiveyoungpeopleinformationandtransformthemintocriticalcitizens,thustheimportanceofservicestobeinclusiveandaccessibletoeveryone.”Audrey Frith, EURODESK Director – referred back to theMemorandum of Understandingbetweenthe3networksandhighlightedthe importanceofcooperationatall levels: “Weneedtoworktogethertofindcost-efficientsolutionsforcommonchallenges.”ManelSanchez,EYCADirector–highlightedthatitisimportanttoshowthatthe3Networkshavethingsincommon,buttheydonotoverlapintheirwork.Hementionedtheimportance

WORKSHOP:ELINECHIVOT-ARTIFICIALINTELLIGENCEANDFAKENEWS,CENTREFORDATAINNOVATIONThepresentationfromthisworkshopcanbefoundhere.Thefollowingtopicswerecovered:

Elinecoveredsomehistoryoffakenews,andhowwehavearrivedtowherewearetoday.Socialmedia isnot theonly sourceof fakenews, sometimes themedia tryand reactveryquicklywithoutcheckingtheirsourcestoo(shegavetheexampleofthefalsearrestofXavierDupontdeLigonnès).Shealsohighlightedthatitisoftennoteasytodifferentiatebetweenmis anddis information.Another question is thematter of freedomof speech - differentcountries can have different meanings of what is harmful, which makes having a globalregulationonthisdifficult.Eline highlighted some of the steps that socialmedia platforms andGoogle are taking toaddressfakenews:rankingalgorithmstomakesurethecorrectinformationisthefirstthatappears; WhatsApp limits the number of times a message can be forwarded as a directreaction to the fake news thatwas spread during the Brazilian elections; Twitter stoppedpoliticaladvertising,butthisisproblematicbecausewhatispoliticalandwhodecides.Socialmediacompanieshirehumanfactcheckers(FBhas35,000)butitisnotenoughfortheamount of content that is produced. The Christchurch attack was live streamed for 17minutes;thealgorithmswerenot‘intelligent’enoughtoknowhowtostopit.Thetechnologybehinddeepfakescanbebeneficial,forexampleforthemedicalindustry.The issue now is that the reaction to AI is more about countering disinformation thanpreventingit,andmorestepsshouldbetakeninthisdirection.AIcanbeapositiveforceforgood: reducing fact checking jobs and reaching vulnerable groups. Fake news can be anopportunitytoteachcriticalthinkingskills.
ROUNDUPOFDAY1Theparticipantsenjoyed the firstday. Theyhada lotofperspectivesand inputs from thediscussionsonArtificialIntelligenceanddigitaltechnologyandtheywerelookingforwardtomoreconcreteexamplesoverthecomingdaysandputtingtheirnewknowledgeintopractice.
WORKSHOP:DIGITALSTORYTELLING-AUGUSTEPOSKAITEANDANDREWCOLLINS,PROMOCYMRUTheparticipantswereintroducedtothetheorybehindfilming,howtobuildastoryline,thevarietiesofshotsandanglesandwhattheymeanandcapture.Theywerethenaskedtocreateashortvideoinpairs,interviewingeachother,andusingdifferentwaysofshooting.Lastlytheyweredividedintothreegroupstocomeupwithastoryline,shootthevideowiththeirmobilephonesandthenedititinthemobileappfilmoraGo.Thepresentationsandvideosmadecanbefoundintheparticipants’folder.EVALUATIONOFDAY1In general the participants felt that the day was very interesting. The topic of ArtificialIntelligence was positively welcomed and fruitful. They had a feeling that it was a bittheoreticalandtheywerestilltryingtounderstandhowitallcomestogether.Inthedaysthatfollowedtheysawmorepracticalexamplesandlookedatyouthworkandtheyouthsectorinrelationtocurrenttrends.
WORKSHOP:VIRTUALREALITY-ANDREWHADLEYANDPAULOXBOROUGH,MOMENTUMWORLDMomentumWorldworkstogiveyoungpeopleavoicethroughvideo,andworkwithfilms,360 technology and drones. They recently carried out the project Youth Work 360, thepurpose of which was to create a virtual training for youth workers to learn how to dointerculturalactivitiesandenergisers.Theaimwasnottoproducehighqualitytrainingbuttoexploredifferentpossibilitieswiththistechnology.Theyhighlightedthe3typesofVR:
• Non-immersive• Semi-immersive• Fully-immersive
TheydemonstratedtotheparticipantsthedifferentwaysofusingVRmaterial,highlightingitsaccessibilityandhowitcanbeaffordableforsmallNGOs,andthatyoudon’tneedexpertisetouseit.Smallorganisationsshouldnotbeafraidtoaskforsponsors.TheparticipantsfirstdiscussedthecurrentsituationofVRintheirrespectivecountries,andthenthedifferentorganisations’willingnesstouseVR.Aftertheinitialdiscussions,theyhadthechancetocreatea360video.Theparticipantswereimpressedbyhowmuchtheycouldachieveattheendoftheworkshopwithout having any expertise in the field. This shows how this can be used as a tool toempoweryoungpeople.MomentumusePremiereProforeditingandaddinggraphics.Instagramwillshortlylaunchaplugin360.Herearesomefurtherexamplesoftheirwork:

Theresultscamefrom8focusgroupsessionsacross4countries,andgaveaninsightintoyoungpeople’sinformation-seekingtrendsandtheirviewsonyouthinformationservices.Eurodesk presented it’s Eurodesk Survey 2019 results about trends in youth mobilityinformation, what obstacles and challenges exist in accessing mobility and accessinginformationaboutopportunities.Therepostcanbereadhere.Questions

WORKSHOP:COMMUNICATIONSTRATEGIES,SAFISABUNI(EURODESK)The workshop went through the essential components of a communication strategy bylookingathowtodesignaclearpurposeandmission,defineyourtargetgroupandfindtheplatformwheretheyareactive.Welookedatdifferenttypesofcontentandwaysofcreatingcontent.Lastlywelookedatevaluationmechanismsandhowtofollowyourprogress.
