Three Fury Team, I would first like to say what an honor and privilege it is to
serve alongside such great paratroopers. I have observed a lot of great training
and camaraderie in this first month as Three Fury Nine. I am looking forward to
working with and finally getting around the Drop Zone and meeting every one of
you and seeing the great families that support this great Squadron. I know that
you will continue to set the bar high and go above and beyond as Cavalrymen
and Paratroopers in the tradition this unit is known for. All of you have written
new pages in the history of the Three Fury Team and the Fury Brigade and I have
no doubt you will continue to do so. I am proud to now be a part of such a great
organization and am truly excited to watch the new feats you all will accomplish
and the history you will continue to write. Again thank you for welcoming me into
the Three Fury Team and I will see all of you at the Steiner Aid.

“Three Fury Nine”
Three Fury Team, as I reflect on the past two months since our last newsletter, I am humbled by the hard work, professionalism and dedication of our Cav Troopers and Families. Thank you for what you do every day! Apriland May marked the beginning of our intensive training cycle and culminated with All American Week and theremembrance of our fallen heroes on Memorial Day. The intensive training cycle proved quite rewarding and theTroops made great strides in reconnaissance, maneuver, indirect fires, logistics, as well as our command sys-tems and communications. For the first time since deployment we exercised all war fighting functions across thesquadron and for the first time in several years we worked on our core reconnaissance and gunnery tasks. You
should be proud of your accomplishments as you reflect on the numerous nights training in the field, variousmarksmanship ranges, section and platoon night l ive fires, air assault missions and multi-day situational training exercises. We all learned a great deal and the squadron is more ready and postured to take it to the next levelduring training in June and the 4th quarter. Also in April and May our great Troopers, family members and volun-
teers continued to build the team with numerous new volunteers in the familyreadiness groups conducting family and social functions that strengthened the Fury Cav Family. THANK YOU!Looking forward to June we will once again hit the training hard with a fire support exercise, Troop andSquadron field training and a Joint Operational Access Exercise (JOAX), during which we will execute multipleairborne operations and perform our out load mission in support of the Panther Brigade(3rd BCT). July willafford us time to recover and take some well deserved block leave. Living in this area of North Carolinathere are many great opportunities to enjoy the summer and so, I wish you a most enjoyable and safe sum-
mer.

From the Commander & First Sergeant,
My greetings to all of you! I am excited to join the4-73 Cav Team, and I appreciate the warm welcome.
In the last few weeks Havoc has had a number of great events. Recently our troopers returned from the fieldtraining exercise and though we kept them overnight, theyreally got great training. With the experience and seniorityof most Havoc Troopers they played the role of observers, mentors, and coaches to the other Troop and Platoon lead-
ers conducting training missions throughout the Fort Bragg Reservation Area.
Congratulations to SGT Mount for his acceptanceinto the Army Green to Gold Program!
In closing Mrs. Jennifer Byrne will be taking overthe role as FRG Leader, our thanks to Mrs. Lyndsey Proctorfor her great energy and we look forward to her continuedsupport as one of the lead volunteers in HHT.

Apocalypse Troop
Thoughts from the Commander and First Sergeant’s Hide Site…
The last few months have flown by down here inApocalypse Troop. Since the last newsletter, we have wel-comed almost 30 new faces to our team, celebrated 17 promo-tions, and bid farewell to six Paratroopers who in their own waycontributed to making this organization so great. Your Para-troopers have been hard at work these past few months execut-ing collective training designed to help shape and refine ourwarrior skills and build a cohesive team. At the end of Marchthe Troop fired a mounted Cavalry Gunnery range, the first timemany of the members of our organization had participated inan un-stabilized gunnery. Following gunnery the Troop com-pleted Section level STXs, incorporating rotary wing assets and
returning us back to the basics of being a Scout. After firing amounted Section Live Fire, the Troop deliberately recovered itsequipment and culminated our collective training with a Pla-toon Live Fire and Platoon STX Lanes. With the passing of eachcollective training event, our young Paratroopers continue toimpress us with their hard work and effort.
The Troop hosted the first major FRG function of theyear, a “Spring Fling,” on 25 April. Thanks to the dedication of
our many volunteers, and the support of the Paratroopers, friends, and families of Apocalypse the event was a huge suc-cess, allowing us to raise almost $570.00 for the FRG.
As always, thank you for your continued support toyour Paratrooper and to our team. We are excited about whatwe see in the future for this fantastic organization. Last but not
least, remember, if you ain’t CAV, you ain’t …
Very Respectfully,

CDR: Over the past six weeks, the Troopers of Blackjack have
risen to the occasion and exceeded the standard time and time
again. During this quarter we have honed and improved upon
the fundamental skills that were learned during the last quarter.
We executed both section and platoon situational training exer-
cises as well as section and platoon live fire exercises. Despite
the long hours and harsh conditions, your troopers performed
extremely well. I personally want to thank the families of Black-
jack Troop for their support and encouragement during these
past two months, while the men have spent long stretches of
time in the field. I couldn’t be more proud of this troop and I look
forward to what the next quarter has to offer. “No Luck, Just
Skill!”

1SG: I want to thank everyone for the warm reception I have
received during my first few months as a member of the Black-
jack family. These initial months as Troop 1SG have been chal-
lenging, but also extremely rewarding. The Blackjack Troopers
have proven to be some of the most professional, and hardest
working individuals that I have had the pleasure of working with
during my military career. During this break from time in the field
I encourage each and everyone of you to spend time with your
families. I am excited about this upcoming quarter and I can’t
wait to see what the future holds. “All the Way”

The last few weeks have been pretty exciting for Chainsaw.
We were able to get back into the wood line and return to our
roots of patrolling. Our Troopers conducted Platoon Situ-
ational Training Exercises (STX) focusing on our recon skill set.
The Men of Chainsaw then moved on to live fire exercises.
They conducted several air assault operations in order to
close with the enemy.
After our time in the field, we shifted our focus to All Ameri-
can Week. The Men of Chainsaw participated in everything from softball to parading. Our Snipers and Mortars took part
in the Division Static Display, and were recognized for the
professionalism and technical knowledge by the Division Dep-
uty Command and Division Sergeant Major.
As always, the Chainsaw family is grateful for the continued
support we receive from you. With the lead of Nely Holmes,
our FRG is rapidly gaining momentum, and we look forward to
seeing many of our friends at our future FRG events.

From the Commander and 1SG,
It’s been a great quarter so far in the Demon Fam-
ily. We’ve trained hard and played hard, participat-
ing in a two-week Intensive Training Cycle (ITC) and
celebrating the 82nd Airborne Division during All-
American week. Your Demon Troopers performed
exceptionally during our ITC, feeding, fueling, fixing,
distributing and arming the Squadron. Our Distribu-
tion Platoon culminated the training with amounted live-fire, exercising our machine gun skills
and building our convoy team. As always, our field
feeding section kept morale high by providing us
hot meals and our maintenance platoon estab-
lished a maintenance collection point and base
maintenance, performing over 30 services. All-
American week provided time for our Troopers to
compete against other units across the Division
and allowed us to reflect on the historic and pres-
tigious unit that we’re a part of: the 82nd Airborne
Division. Make no mistake, our Troopers are partof an elite organization. They sacrifice day in and
day out, but are always prepared to answer when
called to serve. Be proud… I know that we are!

Chaplain Chat: “A Call for Community”
“Lean on me when you're not strong, And I'll be your friend, I'll help you carry on. For it won't be long 'Til I'm gonna need somebody to lean
on.“ Released in April 1972, these are the lyrics of a song written by American singer-songwriter Bill Withers. Withers' childhood in the coal
mining town of Slab Fork, West Virginia was the inspiration for "Lean on Me", which he wrote after he had moved to Los Angeles and found
himself missing the strong community ethic of his hometown. Many of you whether married or single may know what it’s like to leave
“home” to travel sometimes far distances at the “needs of the Army. Even to Fort Bragg, NC” This journey can be lonely, and at times you
may feel like your all on your own.
Wither’s recalls his time in the military stating: "When I was in the Navy, I must have been about 18, 19 years old, and I was stationed in
Pensacola, Florida. It was a holiday, I had this car that I was able to buy and I was driving up to West Virginia. As is the case with young peo-
ple with cheap cars, the tires weren't that great, so one of my tires blew out on this rural Alabama road. This guy comes walking over the hill
that looked like he was right out of the movie Deliverance. He says to me, 'Oh, you had a blowout.' Well, I didn't have a spare tire. This guy
goes walking back across the hill, and I'm not too comfortable here because I know where I am. He comes back walking with a tire, and he
actually helps me put the tire on the car.” The lyrics go on to say: “If there is a load, you have to bear that you can't carry. I'm right up the
road, I'll share your load if you just call me.”
Now, you might not have a flat tire that needs to be carried like Withers, but maybe there are some things that are getting to difficult to han-
dle on your own. Maybe it’s family struggles, faltering finances, parenting challenges, or just some rough times you’ve got to get through, I
want you to know you are not alone. Some of the hardest lyrics in the song for me to admit are right simply state: “Please, swallow your
pride, if I have things you need to borrow. For no one can fill those of your needs, that you won't let show.”
No matter what the rumors you’ve heard or experiences you’ve faced in the past, I want to encourage you to take a r isk and step out and
find a community. It could be a positive group of people who go out once a week, it could be an interest group, or it could be a faith-based
community that can give you that “home away from home” feel and help you carry the load you bear.
If your struggling to find that right place I would love to speak with you and introduce you to some of our outstanding communities in 4-73rd
CAV SQN. My number is 910-973-0259 and my email is [email protected]. To echo the ending lyrics to the song: “just call me.”
