The Third Sunday after the Epiphany January 25, 2015

9:30 A.M. The Holy Eucharist: a Liturgy of Light This service follows liturgy set forth in Enriching Our Worship 1 Supplemental Liturgical Materials prepared by

The Standing Liturgical Commission, 1997.

The Word of God

Opening Hymn Will You Come and Follow Me (see insert)

Opening Acclamations Book of Common Prayer, p.109 Presider Light and peace in Jesus Christ our Lord. People Thanks be to God.

Jesus said, "You are the light of the world. A city built on a hill cannot be hid. No one lights a lamp to put it under a bucket, but on a lamp-stand where it gives light for everyone in the house. And you, like the lamp, must shed light among your fellow men, so that they may see the deed you do, and give glory to your Father in heaven." Matthew 5:14-16

Let us pray. Grant us, Lord, the lamp of charity which never fails, that it may burn in us and shed its light on those around us, and that by its brightness we may have a vision of that holy City, where dwells the true and never-failing Light, Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Salutation Presider God be with you. People And also with you. Presider Let us pray.

Collect of the Day Give us grace, O Lord, to answer readily the call of our Savior Jesus Christ and proclaim to all people the Good News of his salvation, that we and the whole world may perceive the glory of his marvelous works; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Lessons

Gospel Acclamation Hurd

The Holy Gospel of our Savior Jesus Christ according to Mark (1:14-20) People Glory to you, Lord Christ.

After the Gospel, Deacon The Gospel of the Lord. People Praise to you, Lord Christ.

A Reflection The Rector

The Nicene Creed We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen. We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father; through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven, was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary and became truly human. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father, who with the Father and the Son is worshiped and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.

Prayers of the People The People may add their own petitions either silently or aloud. The Presider adds a concluding Collect.

Confession of Sin Presider Let us confess our sins to God.

Silence may be kept. Presider and People

God of all mercy, we confess that we have sinned against you, opposing your will in our lives. We have denied your goodness in each other, in ourselves, and in the world you have created.

Page 4: 3 Epiphany 1/2/515

We repent of the evil that enslaves us, the evil we have done, and the evil done on our behalf. Forgive, restore, and strengthen us through our Savior Jesus Christ, that we may abide in your love and serve only your will. Amen.

Absolution Presider Almighty God have mercy on you, forgive you all your sins

through the grace of Jesus Christ… The Peace Presider The peace of Christ be always with you. People And also with you.

The Holy Communion All who hunger are welcomed at Christ’s Holy Table.

Presider Glory and honor are yours, Creator of all…

Presider Send your Holy Spirit upon us and upon these gifts … Through Christ and with Christ and in Christ, by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit, we worship you our God and Creator in voices of unending praise. Presider and People

Blessed are you now and for ever. Amen.
