Considerthesewords: “Therefore,sincewealsohavesuchalargecrowdofwitnessesaroundus,letuslayasideeveryweightandthesinthatsoeasilyhindersus,andrunwithendurancetherace that liesbeforeus, keepingoureyesonJesus, theauthorandfinisherofourfaith, Who for the joy that was set before him endured acrossanddespisedtheshame,andhassatdownattherighthandofGod’sthrone.”(Hebrews12:1-2) Doyouseethat? Jesusenduredto theend,paid theultimatepriceforoursalvation,andsatdowninvictoryattherighthandofGodbecauseofthejoythatHeknewwascom-ing. Toomanyofusarelookingforaneasywaytodohardthings.Wewanttosubstitutepleasureforrealjoyandhappi-ness.Thatisaformulaforfailureandwilldestroytheincen-tiveanddeterminationofself-denialandfaithfulness. JesuswasfocusedonthejoyofpleasingHisFatherandofcompletingtheawesometasktowhichHehadbeenas-signed—thetaskofprovidingredemptionforallwhoarewill-ingtorepentoftheirsinandreceiveHimastheirSaviorandLord.OurconnectionwithJesusisouronlyhopeofpeaceandhappiness. Davidcapturedthistruthbestwhenhedeclared:“Hap-pinessisbeingforgiven.”(Psalm32:1)Weallknowforgive-nesscomesonly in thecontextofsalvationsoDavidwassayingthattrustinginJesusisthesourceofthekindofjoyorhappinessthatenablesustoendureandwin.Weneedthatjoyinourheartsandinourhomes. LetustrustHimtoempowerourliveswithHisloveandgracetoday.
