March 4 - 17, 2012 Endurance under pressure is patience. Endurance in dealing with people is longsuffering. Endurance to the end is perseverance. Our Lord manifested all of these. Consider these words: “Therefore, since we also have such a large crowd of witnesses around us, let us lay aside every weight and the sin that so easily hinders us, and run with endurance the race that lies before us, keeping our eyes on Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, Who for the joy that was set before him endured a cross and despised the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of God’s throne.” (Hebrews 12:1-2) Do you see that? Jesus endured to the end, paid the ultimate price for our salvation, and sat down in victory at the right hand of God because of the joy that He knew was com- ing. Too many of us are looking for an easy way to do hard things. We want to substitute pleasure for real joy and happi- ness. That is a formula for failure and will destroy the incen- tive and determination of self-denial and faithfulness. Jesus was focused on the joy of pleasing His Father and of completing the awesome task to which He had been as- signed—the task of providing redemption for all who are will- ing to repent of their sin and receive Him as their Savior and Lord. Our connection with Jesus is our only hope of peace and happiness. David captured this truth best when he declared: “Hap- piness is being forgiven.” (Psalm 32:1) We all know forgive- ness comes only in the context of salvation so David was saying that trusting in Jesus is the source of the kind of joy or happiness that enables us to endure and win. We need that joy in our hearts and in our homes. Let us trust Him to empower our lives with His love and grace today. Love in Jesus, Bro.
