TCRAR HIGH SCHOOL COUNSELOR BREAKFAST NOVEMBER 2013 SPRING 2014
Much like that student who returns in the fall measuring 4 inches taller than when he left in the spring, TCRAR has taken a leap in size. We ended last spring with 18 member institutions, and by October, we had increased to 25, spreading our network to far-flung places like Kansas, Arkansas, and even over the pond to Glasgow, Scotland. Our new members are eager to support the mission of TCRAR, which means more of us to help you in the work you do.
History
TCRAR began in the fall of 1997 when several regional representatives were looking for a social and professional outlet in the Twin Cities. Originally the
group got together casually for lunch to discuss the field, but over time TCRAR grew to organize more formal events. Today TCRAR has over twenty members.

Junior, Lauren Bach, has been elected to the National Collegiate Honors Council Board of Directors. Lauren’s election marks the first time that a representative from Minnesota State Mankato will have served on the board. Visit Minnesota State University, Mankato!

Learning Communities
Admitted students interested in becoming a member of a learning community for 2014-2015 can now access the online enrollment form!
Visits including Junior Days and Admitted Senior Days happening throughout Spring/Summer
February 27: Jayhawk Night in Minneapolis for potential students, admitted seniors and families to learn more about KU and mingle with fellow future Jayhawks Applications for Fall 2014 semester being accepted through summer. Housing selection begins March 1st – first come first serve so, students should sign housing application as soon as possible.
Decision Notification
If students were postponed, or if they applied by February 1, they will receive a final decision no later than the end of March.
Self-report midyear grades
We have asked students to self-report their official midyear grades online. This means we do not need any midyear transcripts from the high school.
Housing
All freshman are guaranteed a place in university housing, regardless of when they were admitted. Assignments are made in early summer by lottery system.

USD’s Muenster University Center expansion has been completed! New dining options at Qdoba, Einstein Bros. Bagels and Chick-fil-A are now available on campus.

Do you have any students that are dependents of Veterans? Encourage them to consider NMU! We just had a policy change that gives all Veterans, and dependents of Veterans, in-state tuition. www.nmu.edu/veterans
We are still accepting applications for the Fall 2014 semester. Just a reminder that NMU’s minimum GPA is 2.25 and our minimum ACT is 19. No essays or letters of recommendation are required. www.nmu.edu/apply
NMU’s priority date to submit the FAFSA is March 1st. Please encourage your students to submit prior to that date for the quickest service and fullest consideration of all applicable funds. www.nmu.edu/financialaid
Four U.S. Olympians with NMU Olympic Training Site affiliation will represent Team USA at the 2014 Olympic Games in Sochi. Athletes Chris Creveling, Kyle Carr and Jordan Malone have been named to the Short Track roster and Shani Davis will compete in Long Track speedskating.
In The University of Tulsa news, Dean of Admission, Earl Johnson, was recently named Vice President of Enrollment and Student Services. Barbara Adkins has been appointed as the new Dean of Admission after serving many years as the Senior Associate Dean. Earlier this fall, the University also welcomed, Goldie, a golden retriever who will act as a goodwill ambassador, uniting the spirit of our campus and community.
The University of Tulsa will be hosting Tulsa Time, February 16-17. This is a chance for seniors to envision themselves at The University of Tulsa. They will have the opportunity to see our beautiful campus firsthand, spend the night in the residence halls with TU students, visit with professors and staff about all aspects of the TU experience, and meet other students who are applying to TU. Greetings from the University of Glasgow-Scotland! As Glasgow prepares for the 2014 Commonwealth Games in July, and the Scottish Independence Referendum in September, the University is looking ahead to the incoming 2014 class!
UCAS applications for international students are accepted until June 30th for most programs, so there is still time for American students (and other non-UK or EU students) to apply. Exceptions to the June 30th deadline include Medicine, Vet Medicine, and Dentistry, and applications to Oxford and Cambridge Universities.
Applicants can apply for up to five programs in UCAS. That means they can apply for five programs at one university, or one program at five different universities—or any combination up to five.
The University of Glasgow offers merit-based scholarships to exceptional international students. The scholarship application is separate from the UCAS application, so please encourage students to apply at http://www.gla.ac.uk/scholarships/.

Art Center for our Minneapolis session. Every year, our Admissions team travels around the country to meet with students and their families at Columbia Sessions. Sessions are in-depth presentations about Columbia that cover everything there is to know about our school and what it means to be a

Visiting the UMD Campus http://www.d.umn.edu/admissions/visit.html Daily Campus Visits Monday through Thursday each week we offer campus tours at 10:30am and 1:30pm. This includes an informational presentation in addition to the campus tour. Appointments with academic staff or faculty and admissions counselors may be scheduled with advanced notice. Summer Visits After Memorial Day, UMD will host daily visits Monday through Friday twice a day. Summer is a popular time to visit the UMD campus as there is lots to do in Duluth.

- Overnight Visit – A bus will
be provided from the Twin Cities and prospective students will be able to visit campus while staying overnight with a current student. Students may also provide their own transportation.
February 18 – Scholarship Day – Students applying for the De La Salle Premier Scholarship will interview on campus as well as learn more about Saint Mary’s University.
February 22 – Fine Arts Focus Day – Students interested in the Fine Arts are invited to the open house where they will be able to attend classes, meet with professors, and enjoy and Saint Mary’s student performance.
February 23-24 – Music and Theatre Scholarship Auditions – Students applying for an Arts scholarship will audition on campus.
March 24-25, April 3-4 – Financial Aid Interviews – Students and families can meet one on one with Admission and Financial Aid staff to discuss financial aid opportunities. Hosted at our Minneapolis Campus.
April 20 – Junior Preview Day – This open house is specifically intended for Juniors and includes a tour of campus, faculty and student panels, and an admission presentation.
