THE HIPPOCRATIC OATH - 120
The Senior Class of 1967 dedicates this yearbook to David Z. Morgan, M.D., our teacher, assistant
dean, and warm friend. Dr, Morgan, anative of this state, received his A.B. degree from West Virginia
University in 1948; a B,S. Med. from West Virginia University School of Medicine in 1950; and his
M.D. degree from The Medical College of Virginia in 1952. His graduate medical education was
spent in Pathology and Medicine at West Virginia University Hospital. While Assistant Professor of
Medicine at this hospital he accepted the position of Assistant Dean of the School of Medicine in 1966.
Anyone having had the privilege of being one of Dr. Morgan's students during their clinical
clerkship will attest to the qualities that he possesses as a fine instructor, excellent physician, and
fellow humanitarian. He has that rare quality of communication with a patient whereby he can not
only elicit a wealth of information about a particular disease process, but is also able to convey his
thoughts to the students and thereby complete the teaching process.
We, his pupils, have greatly profited from his humor, warmth, knowledge, and humility. It is
with great pride that we dedicate this Pylon to Dr. David Z. Morgan.

The regular daily meeting of the Klass of 1969 Kof-
fee Klatch will consider today why the parley failed
us last week.
So I plugged the other end into mypathology text . .

Obtaining blood from the biceps
tendon is sometimes difficult.
51
Awww, it say here Dr. Chamberlain is leaving us.
With one gulp, already. What did you say I'm after?
52
I don't believe it. He actually
said something that isn't in the
old notes.
Now let's see . . . draw the line
and then add the points.
L/fYuck Yuck, an air bubble. The short guy? No, he isn't Homer.
53
Golly Ray , what's that? I'm not sure Peggy, but it goes well
with my rubber tree plant.
No! No! It's pulsating! Whadayamean, our dogs never
into asystole.
54
Came clear over from Sicily huh? The surgery team takes a break.
Yeah Hiroshi, this Japanese pipe
tobacco is good stuff.
The Hawk peers into the gathering
gloom of another Pathology lecture.
55
And tomorrow, the world.
So that's how you determine the level of serum porcelain.
Hey Ross, who is that
tall man with white
hair coming over
toward this far
corner table?1

Hey fellas, have you heard
the latest one about what

I IDoes Lilly furnish LSD to us for use in Pharmacology?
Now, that is a very mind -expanding question.
Take a milk break

They could have done this a little
differently so it would only take
six hours instead of seven.

I swear by Apollo Physician, by Asclepius. by Health, by Heal-all,
and by all the gods and goddesses, making them witnesses that I will
carry out, according to my ability and judgement, this oath and this in-
denture; to regard my teacher in this art as equal to my parents; to make
him partner in my livelihood, and when he is in need of money to share
mine with him; to consider his offspring equal to my brothers; to teach
them this art. if they require to learn it, without fee or indenture; and to
impart precept, oral instruction, and all other learning, to my sons, to
the sons of my teacher, and to pupils who have signed the indenture and
sworn obedience to the physicians' Law, but to none other. I will use
treatment to help the sick according to my ability and judgement, but
1 will never use it to injure or wrong them. I will not give poison to any-
one i hough asked to do so, nor will I suggest such a plan. Similarly 1
will not give a pessary to a woman to cause abortion. But in purity and in
holiness I will guard my life and my art. I will nor use the knife on
sufferers from stone, bur I will give place to such as are craftsmen therein.
Into whatsoever houses I enter, I will do so to help the sick, keeping my-
self free from all intentional wrong-doing and harm, especially from
fornication with woman or man, bond or free. Whatsoever in the course
of practice I see or hear (or even outside my practice in social intercourse)
that ought never to be published abroad, I will not divulge, but consider
such things to be holy secrets. Now if I keep this oath and break it not,
may I enjoy honor, in my life and art, among all men for all time; but
if I transgress and forswear myself, may the opposite befall me.
