2O1O STUDENT INNOVATION AWARDS - DESCRIPTION
The TechColumbus Innovation Awards celebrate and honor Central Ohio’s technology achievements in a variety of disciplines. The Student Innovation Awards seek to nurture and encourage future generations of technology entrepreneurs. Winners will be recognized on February 3, 2011 at the Greater Columbus Convention Center.
AWARDS
The top two winners of the Student Innovation Awards will receive $2,500.00, placed into a 529 College Savings Account on their behalf. Winners 3, 4 and 5 will receive $50 Gift Cards.
AWARD CRITERIA
This is a competitive award based on student academic merit and potential for a successful career in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math (STEM)-related field.
NOMINATIONS
Nominations open on August 3, 2010 and end on January 4, 2011. All applications must be submitted electronically or postmarked by the deadline.
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
The Student Innovation Awards are open to all students in grades 9 through 12 that reside in the 15 county Central Ohio region: Delaware, Fairfield, Fayette, Franklin, Hocking, Knox, Licking, Logan, Madison, Marion, Morrow, Perry, Pickaway, Ross, and Union counties.
Students must have met the eligibility requirements as of the beginning of the 2010-2011 school year.
JUDGING PROCESS
The Student Innovation Awards are judged using a blind review process by an independent team of Judges. Industry professionals review and score Nominees who have passed verification and supplied all requested information. Judges will NOT contact Nominees.

Please submit the following:
• Completed 2010 Student Innovation Awards Entry Form.
• A copy of your most current Academic Transcript, including standardized scores where possible.
• Statement of Activities, Honors, Leadership - On a single sheet of paper (one-sided, 12 pt. Times New Roman font), list school, community/volunteer, and work/internship activities, including years in which you participated and leadership positions held. List any honors or awards you earned.
• One letter of recommendation from an academic teacher or mentor other than an immediate family member or guardian.
• An essay written by the student, no more than 1,000 words, double-spaced, typewritten, 12 pt. Times New Roman font. The essay should discuss the student’s science abilities, what he or she has learned about the field, what strengths and weaknesses the student possesses, and what the student’s aspirations are for a STEM career.
