Dr Walid Abderahmann, Miahona Chairman

Prof. Walid Abderrahman, is the Chairman and CEO of Miahona, and a Professor of Water Resources at King Fahd University of Petroleum & Minerals, Dhahran, (1980-2008) Saudi Arabia. Since the establishment of the company, he has been leading major activities of the company including business development, and the creating and growth of four subsidiary companies of Miahona. The comprehensive technical expertise of Prof. Abderrahman has been instrumental for the success of the business and technical Divisions of the company and its subsidiaries. Prof. Abderrahman has served as the elected Governor of the IHE-UNESCO Institute for Water Education representing 22 Arab countries, Governor of the UNESCO Regional Center for Water Training and Studies for Nile Basin and Arab countries, Cairo, Egypt, Member of International Advisory board & steering committee of Global Institute for Water Environment and Health (GIWEH), Genève - Switzerland , Member of Executive Board and Governor of the Arab Water Council, Cairo, Egypt, Governor of Arab Water Academy, Abu Dhabi, UAE, Member of the International Advisory Committee (IAC) of the International Network for Water, Health and Environment (INWEH), of the United Nation University (UNU), Hamilton, Canada (2002 to 2008), and Member of the Groundwater Protection Network for Arab Countries (UNESCO-IHP), Cairo, Egypt and Ex Director of the International Water Resources Association (IWRA), and Executive Board Members of Arab Healthy Water Association (AHWA), Cairo-Egypt. He obtained his PhD from University of Reading, England in 1977. His major qualifications, teaching and research experiences are in water resources management especially in arid regions. Prof. Walid has been working as a part time consultant to several international organizations such as ESCWA/UN, UNESCO/UN, FAO/UN, UNEP/UN, World Bank/UN and Arab League. Prof. Walid has won the prize as the Best Water Scientist in Arab Countries by the Council of Arab Ministers for Environment in 1996, Prince Sultan International Water Prize, 2006 (for management of ground water in coastal zones) in addition to five awards in recognition for his scientific achievements. He has managed more than 65 major applied research projects and contributed to writing 13 international books and more than 165 technical papers.

H.E. Dr Mohammed Al Najjar ExMinisterofWater&Irrigation,Jordan

Mohammad Najjar began his post-secondary education at Krasnodar University in Russia where he obtained a B.S. in Civil Engineering, and completed his education with an MSc. in Environmental Engineering from the University of Newcastle upon Tyne in the UK. He started his work with the Water Authority of Jordan in 1981 as a project engineer then went through various promotions at the Water Authority then later on at the Ministry of Water and Irrigation. His latest position before joining the Cabinet as / minister of Water and Irrigation in December 2009 was the Director of the Project Management Unit with full responsibility for developing the ministry’s strategic policy on Public Private Sector Participation. He resigned from the Cabinet in October 2011 and since then started his own business as a freelance project development consultant.

Khaldon Khashman, Arab Countries Water Utilities Association (ACWUA) Secretary General

Khaldon Khashman is a senior water utilities management expert, who served the water sector in Jordan for more than 25 years, where he started his career at Jordan Drinking Water Corporation in the early eighties, then filled many vital positions at the Water Authority of Jordan in different service areas in Jordan. Eng. Khaldon Khashman is a member of board of directors at the Water Authority of Jordan, municipal councils, Jordan Engineers Association and other professional organization and a former board member in Jordan Water Company (Miyahuna), Northern Governorates Water Administration and Aqaba Water Company. He attended more than 40 local and international professional training programs covering technical, financial, legal and administrative issue in water utilities. Since 2009 and currently Eng. Khashman is working as the Secretary General for the Arab Countries Water Utilities Association (ACWUA), where he strongly believes in the importance of knowledge and experience transfer between Arab water utilities and promoting ACWUA as regional center of excellence which will partner with water supply and wastewater utilities in Arab countries to provide best practice service delivery to their customers.

Matthew Griffiths, Regulation & Supervision Bureau Wastewater Manager

Matthew Griffiths has been the Wastewater Manager with the Regulation and Supervision Bureau since February 2006. Originally from the UK, Matthew began his career with Anglian Water where he spent 6 years working on a wide range of wastewater processes and technologies including a number of research projects examining grey water treatment and the reuse of treated effluent. Prior to moving to Abu Dhabi, Matthew spent 3 years working for Purac Ltd., a process contracting company, and was involved in process engineering and technology development. Matthew has been responsible for the development and introduction of Abu Dhabi’s Trade Effluent Control Regulations and Recycled Water and Biosolids Regulations which included management of stakeholder consultation and the launch of the new Regulations.

Dr Jamal Shamas, CH2M Hill Senior Industrial Water/Wastewater Technical Manager International Business Development Leader MENA

Dr. Shamas, a licensed professional environmental engineer, is the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) Technical and Business Development Manager as well as the Global Technology Leader for the Oil & Gas Water Market Sector at CH2M HILL. In his current role, Dr. Shamas serves both industrial and municipal clients with all issues relating to water including process water supply and treatment, wastewater treatment and reuse, and integrated water management solutions leading to sustainable practices. He holds a doctorate degree in Water Quality Management from Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana, a Masters degree in Environmental Pollution Control from Leeds University, UK, Graduate studies in civil engineering at the Louisiana State University, and a bachelor’s degree in environmental sciences from the American University of Beirut. Over his 25 year career, Dr. Shamas held many technical and managerial positions with small to large consulting and engineering companies serving clients in Central and North America, Middle East, North Africa, Asia, and Europe. In addition to his consulting background, he taught extensively for both Tulane University Graduate Civil Engineering program as an assistant lecturer and Louisiana State University Graduate Civil and Environmental Engineering program as an adjunct professor.

Didier Lahalle, Jeddah Water Services Suez Environnement, KSA O&M Director

Didier LAHALLE, 53 years old, is a hydraulic Engineer from Toulouse Engineering school (France), He is now working as Operation &Maintenance Director in National Water Company in Jeddha, KSA. He has spent more than 20 years in the Suez Environnement Group as a specialist in Water and Wastewater

Operation and Maintenance Activity. His main experiences were located in Paris, Barcelona, Buenos Aires, Bordeaux, Mulhouse and finaly in the Head Quarter of Suez Environment in Paris as a Technical Director for wastewater.

Joseph Sebastian, Siemens Water Technologies, UAE Manager Middle East Hub

Joseph Sebastian heads the Siemens Water Technology business for the Middle East and is based in their UAE office. He has a Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology at Madras and a Masters degree in Environmental Engineering from the State University of New York at Buffalo. Mr. Sebastian has a been working in the field of wastewater treatment and re-use for over 18 years of which the last 13 years have been in the Middle East. He has worked on several water and wastewater projects in the region including membrane systems for producing a treated wastewater suitable for re-use in irrigation, district cooling and other relatively high grade re-use applications.

Ahmad Al-Shuha, Corodex Industries Technical Director

Mr. Ahmad Al-Shuha joined Corodex Industries in 1999. In his role, Mr. Al-Shuha is responsible for water and wastewater treatment systems which include the supervision of comprehensive design, engineering, fabrication and assembly. Mr. Al Shuha earned his Master’s Degree in Environmental Isotopes Hydrology, Chemical Engineering from the Jordan University of Science and Technology. He obtained his Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering from Yarmouk University. Prior to joining Corodex, Mr. Al-Shuha gained a strong technical experience in design, construction, and systems installation as a Process Design Engineer. At Corodex, Mr. Al Shuha has been instrumental in the development of a robust range of water and wastewater treatment products under the Corodex umbrella. Under his stewardship and leadership, and leveraging the strength of Corodex and Eflo engineering teams, he was able to place Corodex as premier provider of water and wastewater solutions in the Middle East. From 1993-1998, Mr. Al Shuha served as Technical and Sales Manager with the Middle East Environment Technology L.L.C. where he successfully established two new divisions: Sewage Treatment Plants design and construction, and Reverse Osmosis Plants.

Mohanned Awad, Concorde - Corodex Group Director of Business Development

In his current role as a Director of Business Development for Concorde-Corodex Group, Mohanned Awad drives both the Marketing and Sales functions within the group. Since 2003 Awad has been spearheading the group’s intelligence and research effort along with driving business development, product development, formulation of yearly business plans, and review of market position of the entire Concorde-Corodex Group of companies (i.e. Corodex Industries, Corodex Fire and Safety, Bristol Fire Engineering, Corodex Electromechanic, Concorde Trading, and Corodex Trading). Colin Christie is the Wastewater Market Manager for Purafil. He is responsible for overall expansion in the areas of odor control, corrosion control, and emergency gas scrubbers in the municipal water and wastewater market. A Purafil employee since 2002, the Calgary native has given technical presentations on emergency gas scrubbing, odor removal, and corrosion control at industry tradeshows in the United States and Canada. Dr. Matthias Rebhan, SIPOS Aktorik Managing Director

Dr. Matthias Rebhan received his diploma (Dipl.-Ing. (Univ.)) in Electrical Engineering at University Erlangen-Nuremberg, Germany and his doctorate (Dr.–Ing.) in Electrical Engineering at Technical University Braunschweig, Germany. Dr. Rebhan started his professional career 1987 as R&D engineer with SIEMENS. His first jobs were situated in the field of digital real-time simulation. These topics served as basis for his doctoral thesis. Later he worked in software and electronics development for frequency converters. In 1997 he switched to the electric actuator division as R&D manager. He remained in that position when the electric actuator division left SIEMENS and formed SIPOS Aktorik GmbH in 1999. Main field of his work has been to establish variable-speed capabilities in electric actuators. Since 2001 he also took over the position of managing director of SIPOS Aktorik.
