From a Marianist Community of student brothers open to visitors for Sunday Eucharist, Queen of Apostles Community emerged as a non-territorial parish on August 28, 1973.

Continuing in the tradition of the Marianist Charism, we come together each week as a family of Catholic, Christian believers, to worship our God in the Eucharist with song &

praise and to share in the breaking of the Bread. In so doing, we proclaim our willingness to build a community of love and to be the holy people God calls us to be.

If you are visiting and worshipping with us for the first time, we extend to you our warmest welcome. Our prayer is that your worship experience will be uplifting and Spirit filled.

We hope you will visit us often and worship with us!

(If you’d like more information about us or would like to join our Community, please fill out the form on the back cover and drop it in the collection basket!)

NOTE: If the form on the back is missing, email [email protected] with your name, phone number, address and we’ll contact you about joining us.

Marianist Doxology May the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit be glorified in all places

through the Immaculate Virgin Mary.

STEWARDSHIP & GIVING

2nd Sunday of Easter: “Jesus said to them again, ‘Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, so I send you.’” (John 20:21). Peace – the first gift of the risen Lord. Just as Jesus sent the apostles out into the world to share His peace and Good News, so too, He sends us. As disciples of Jesus, we are called to be grateful and generous. We should look for opportunities to share His peace with our brothers and sisters not only within our local parish boundaries, but outside of them as well. In giving, you will receive the peace of Christ.

Acts 5:12-16: Peter’s prominence in the Acts of the Apostles is seen in this passage in his ability to heal without even touching the sick person. Peter becomes the mouthpiece for the author’s message that Jesus is the fulfillment of God’s promise to Israel and is the Savior of the world. Apparently because of their healing ministry, many people from Jerusalem and the surrounding area come to visit the followers of Jesus and become believers.

Revelations 1:9-11a, 12-13, 17-19: John depicts Christ as having all authority; He is judge of the world and even wears clothes that designate Him as priest and king. This exhalted one instructs John to proclaim the present situation of the church - the reality of persecution, the faithfulness or the errors of each community - as well as its future. For the seven churches, what is coming immediately is a period of greater testing that carries with it the opportunity to “conquer.”

John 20:19-31: Thomas’ experience is much like our own; we want to believe but have never actually heard the risen Jesus speak or seen Him in the flesh. In the story about Thomas, however, the author proclaims that even those who are removed from the events he describes and who have not personally known Jesus can still believe in him. Thomas’ statement of confession vindicates him and erases his doubt. It is one of the strongest statements of the divinity of Christ in the New Testament.

Ministers Taking Eucharist to Those Not With Us

Presider: Let us send these ministers to those who could not be with us.

Response: Receive the Body of Christ for the nourishment of those who are not here with us. Assure our friends of our prayers and blessings throughout the week.

URGENT SPECIAL REQUESTS from THE HANGARTNERS: 1) As we are preparing for the next 4-month trip to Malawi from early May to end of August, we are in great need of two or three used laptop computers for the college students we are supporting. Life as a college student without a computer is miserable, even in Malawi!

2) We would also like to ask the hobby photographers in the community to donate some culturally neutral pictures for the beautification of the hospital once it is renovated. We are thinking of pictures of nature, animals, children...in color or black and white. The size should be one of the standard photography sizes, like 8x8; 8x10; 8.5x11; 9x16; 11x14, etc., so that we can find frames for the pictures that do not cost an arm and a leg. With many thanks...Elisabeth & Thomas

BOOKS FOR ‘PROJECT READ’: We (QAC) are collecting gently used books for school aged children (pre-school to third grade) at Ruskin School. Maria Rivera will distribute these to her classes at Ruskin at the end of the school year for their summer reading. Please bring to the chapel vestibule marked for Maria. Thank you.

FROM CHUCK BAUER: 1) Friday, Apr 8th; Fifth Street Brewpub lunch, 1:15 PM. I have set up a lunch with Dave Jennings who is the Assistant Brew master at the Fifth Street Brew Pub, 1600 E. Fifth St. Several friends at QAC are member/share holders in the coop. Their Pub Food menu is very good and is great when accompanied with their craft beers. I plan to bake several loves of Spent Grain Bread which was discussed at the Carillon Brewery Lunch Last Spring. I made it before, it is a very heavy and earthy yeast bread. Signup will be after Mass April 3rd, or call Chuck at 426-7260.

2) Friday, Apr 29th, 7:00 PM. Movie, desert, popcorn and conversation night at Si Lounge. I will be discussing with you what movies you would want me to show. I am actually thinking of trying to set up two movies one in the main area and a second in the family room. Signups and your contributions will be taken after Mass, Apr 17th & 24th. The ground flowers and flowering trees should be in full bloom at that time. Come early and wonder the grounds of Mt St. John.

OPPORTUNITY TO ENHANCE PRESCHOOLERS EDUCATION: Kristina Stieger is a Preschool teacher in Dayton Public Schools. There are two Preschool classes at her school - one is federally funded through Title I and the other is funded through the district. The Title I classroom receives funding for students to attend field trips, while the other class does not. We are trying to raise the funds so that everyone in both classes can attend two field trips this spring. Transportation is covered, but based on our calculations we will need $568 to cover the remaining costs. To make a donation or to read more about our story please visit our GoFundMe page, www.gofundme.com/MeadowdalePreK. Thank you! - Kristina Stieger

MEDITATION OF THE DAY: “Nothing is mere coincidence; everything that happens is contained in the Word of God and sustained by his divine plan. The Lord passes through all the stages and steps of humanity’s fall from grace, yet each of these steps, for all its bitterness, becomes a step toward our redemption: this is how he carries home the lost sheep." ~ Pope Benedict XVI

THE SECRET: “The secret of a good sermon is to have a good beginning and a good ending, and to have the two as close together as possible.” ~ George Burns

COMPLACENCY: A pastor I know has a standard liturgy for funerals. To personalize each service, he uses the ‘Find & Replace’ command on his computer to replace the name of the deceased from the previous funeral with the new name.

The next morning, the funeral was going smoothly until the Apostle's Creed. "Jesus Christ," the congregation read from the program, "born of the Virgin Edna..."

INEXPERIENCE: An inexperienced deacon was to hold a graveside burial service at a pauper's cemetery for an indigent man with no family or friends. Not knowing where the cemetery was, he made several wrong turns and got lost. When he eventually arrived an hour late, the hearse was nowhere in sight, the backhoe was next to the open hole, and the workmen were sitting under a tree eating lunch.

The diligent young deacon went to the open grave and found the vault lid already in place. Feeling guilty because of his tardiness, he preached an impassioned and lengthy service, sending the deceased to the great beyond in style.

As he returned to his car, he overheard one of the workman say to the other, "I've been putting in septic tanks for twenty years and I ain't never seen anything like that."

DANGLING PARTICIPLES: The burglar was about 30 years old, white, 5' 10", with wavy hair weighing about 150

pounds. The family lawyer will read the will tomorrow at the residence of Mr. Hannon, who died

June 19 to accommodate his relatives. Mrs. Shirley Baxter, who went deer hunting with her husband, is very proud that she

was able to shoot a fine buck as well as her husband. Organ donations from the living reached a record high last year, outnumbering donors

who are dead for the first time. We spent most of our time sitting on the back porch watching the cows playing

Scrabble and reading. Hunting can also be dangerous, as in the case of pygmies hunting elephants armed

only with spears
