Reading… This week students begin identifying character traits, such as bravery, through a fictional text. Students will use a graphic organizer when writing traits. Students will also use text evidence to prove their thinking.Ask your child… what are character traits? What character traits

Math… Students will continue working with place value using two-digit numbers- identifying

the value of the number in each place, comparing two numbers and ordering a set

of three numbers from least to greatest and greatest to least.

Ask your child… how many tens are in the number ______? How many ones? Can

you draw a picture to represent?

Writing… Students will finish discussing where authors generate ideas. Students will participate in discussions on a variety of writing such as letters and flip books.Ask your child… what are some topics you could write about? What kind of writing could you do?

Science… This week we will begin working in our

garden and discussing the parts of a plant. Students will also be introduced to some of

the physical properties of matter, specifically mass.

Ask your child… what are the parts of a plant? What do plants need to grow?

Everyday Editing…Students will continue to work on capitalizing the first word of a sentence, a name and a day of the week.Ask your child… what words always need a capital?

Social Studies… In social studies, we will be focusing on the United States Constitution as we celebrate

Constitution Day (Sept. 17th).

Ask your child… why is our Constitution important?

Word Study… This week students will review the difference between short (CVC) and long (CVCe) vowels. Remember to practice your spelling words daily! Test this Friday!!!

Hi! My name is Cortney Groce and this will be my 8th year teaching

and my 4th year teaching 2nd grade. I received my bachelor's

degree in Early Childhood Education from the University of Houston, as well as my master's

degree in School Counseling. I love teaching 2nd grade and I'm so

happy to be working with your child this year!
