current scenarioWhy aluminum alloys?
High Availability.Light and strong.Cost effective.Non toxic and corrosion resistant.Good heat and electrical conductor.Easy to fabricate and have high surface finish.
MAJOR SETBACKS
More difficult to weld.Less strength compared to steel alloys.Susceptible to wear .Constant lubrication is required.
OUR SOLUTION TO THE SCENARIO IS SELF LUBRICATING ALUMINUM MMC
SELF LUBRICATING ALUMINUM MMCIt is a mmc.Base metal : Aluminum.Reinforcement: graphite, MoS2.Fabricated through stir casting.
METHODOLOGYFABRICATION OF SELF LUBRICATING ALUMINUM MMC.
TESTING PHASE
FABRICATION OF SELF LUBRICATING ALUMINUM MMC
The perfect proportion of graphite to be added to the composite was found out. Fabrication of Aluminum mmc through stir casting.A total of four specimen of mmc is made with a percentage composition of 1%,2%,3%,4% of graphite.TESTING PHASE
Tension test.Compression test.Wear test. Analysis of microstructure.
