We are proud to offer this outstanding group of bulls. This group of bulls have it all, calving ease and performance wrapped up in a stylish package.

We strive for only the best, culling hard for disposition, structure, and performance. If an animal doesn’t meet our standards they do not stay in production. Our goal is to raise bulls that you want to keep in your front pasture for everyone to see and your smokey and buckskin colored calves to command a premium at the sale.

If your goal, as a beef producer, is to market a calf with wide market acceptance, then a registered Charolais bull is the answer. In a recent analysis of seven years of extensive auction marketing data including more than two million head of cattle, Charolais sired steer calves outsold all other English-Continental breed cross steers by $3.73 per hundred weight. The study was written by Esther McCabe at Kansas State University and is published on the university website.

The American International Charolais Association has rebooted the CharAdvantage program. CharAdvantage is an age-source verified program with added bonuses. This program will calculate the average TSI (terminal sire index) and marbling genetic indicators for your group of calves, giving buyers confidence in what they are getting. There are also options for Natural, NHTC & GAP Certification. For more information on how to sign up, we would be more than happy to help.

We are still in the process of building our foundation of females. With that said, there is a large number of the bulls raised by First Calf Heifers. But don’t let that worry you, they did an outstanding job of raising some top-notch bulls, that are ready to go to work for you!

If you cannot be with us sale day, we will handle any bids in confidence. Call any of our sale day representatives. We will guarantee your bull to meet your satisfaction when buying sight unseen.

Announcements from the auction block on sale day take precedence over information in this catalog.

Bulls are available for preview at any time at the headquarters until two days before the sale. On Sunday the bulls will be hauled to Winter Livestock and will be available for viewing that afternoon and through sale day. The heifer pairs will arrive the day before the sale.

All bulls sold qualify for a first breeding season guarantee against injury or death. If a replacement bull is not available, credit will be issued at the next annual sale. All claims for replacements need to be made by September of the current year. All bulls are guaranteed to be breeders; however, no guarantee is given that the semen collected from a bull will freeze. All bulls have passed a breeding soundness exam prior to the sale.

Any bull that is not picked up the day of the sale will be taken back to our facility at no additional cost until delivery can be arranged. Every effort will be made to deliver bulls shortly after the sale.

All Cattle have been double vaccinated against IBR, BVD type 1 & 2, BRSV, PI3, Pasteurella and Vibrio/Lepto. All bulls will be given interstate health papers the day of the sale. Any bulls going to states that require trich tests on virgin bulls will be completed before delivery.

Bulls are fed a high roughage growing ration with the intent of gaining 2 pounds a day. They are never pushed to gain.

NUTRITION:


Genomic, or DNA, test results are used enhance predictability and to achieve more accuracy on EPDs for younger animals. DNA technology along with pedigree, performance and progeny information is used in the calculation and reporting of EPD’s. All Horse Creek Charolais Bulls have been DNA tested and is adorned with the AICA Genomics Logo.

All bulls are registered with the American International Charolais Association.

Expected Progeny Differences (EPD) is a prediction of how future calves of a bull are expected to perform compared to other bulls in the breed. The EPD itself does not imply “good” or “bad” performance, but rather the EPD gives a prediction of the average difference to expect in the performance of a bull’s calves compared to other bulls in the same breed. The EPD is reported as a plus or minus value in the unit which the trait is measured.

Calving Ease Direct (CE) is based on calving ease scores and birth weights. More positive EPDs are favorable and indicate easier calving. The EPD for direct calving ease indicates the influence of the sire on calving ease in purebred females calving at 2 years of age.

Birth Weight EPD (BW) The expected difference in average birth weight (pounds) of progeny. Birth weight reflects prenatal growth.

Weaning Weight EPD (WW) The expected difference in average weaning weight of calves expressed in pounds. This EPD reflects the genetic influence on pre-weaning growth rate.

Yearling Weight EPD (YW) The expected difference in average yearling weight of calves expressed in pounds. The evaluation reflects genetic influence on both pre-weaning and post-weaning growth rate. It is the best estimate of total growth.

Maternal Milk EPD (Milk) The genetic ability of a sire’s or dam’s daughters to express in pounds of weaning weight in her calves due to her maternal ability through mothering instinct and milk.

Terminal Sire Index (TSI) is a formal method of combing EPDs for BWT, WWT, YWT, and all Carcass EPDs into one single value. The TSI represents a dollar index per terminal progeny produced for a bull in the AICA database, ranking them for profit potential. This dollar index is to be interpreted much like single trait EPD. For example, if Sire A’s index is $191.66 and Sire B’s index is $200.00, then we would expect Sire B’s offspring to average $8.34 more net return ($200.00 minus $191.66) than Sire A’s offspring.

Heifer Pairs for sale



This is a gate cut from the heart of our commercial replacement program. The 2-year-old First Calf Heifers have been Ivomec back poured and are open and ready to breed. The calves are AI sired by OW Maximizer 3041 PLD and are tagged to match the cows. The calves have had one dose of 8-way, IBR, BVD type 1 & 2, BRSV, PI3, and Pasteurella. All bull calves have been castrated.

All Calves were born in 30 days starting January 1st. We have done all the work, all that is left is to put your brand on them and turn the bull in.
