Center for Childhood Deafness & Hearing Loss FRC Checklist for Initial Meeting with Families who have Deaf or Hard of Hearing Children The Washington State Center for Childhood Deafness & Hearing Loss (CDHL) is a state agency mandated to collect demographic information and provide support services throughout the state to early childhood professionals, school staff, and families. CDHL’s Washington Outreach Network team has specialists in the field of Deaf Education and Early Childhood Education to provide important information to parents regarding communication modality, language development, understanding their child’s hearing levels and audiogram, and available hearing & visual technologies. The first years of development are critical for a child who is deaf or hard of hearing, especially in the areas of language & communication, cognition and social skills. Infants and toddlers need access to spoken language and/or sign language so they can develop these skills and set a strong foundation for overall growth and school readiness.
