Williamsburg National Golf Club (Jamestown Course)
Williamsburg National Golf Club features two 18-
hole courses—the Jamestown and Yorktown cours-
es. The Jamestown Course is the original 18-hole
layout at the club, designed by Jack Nicklaus. Tom
Clark designed Yorktown. Both courses offer their
own beauty and noble challenges. WNGC is open
to public play but also offers club memberships.

Championship Format/Schedule
» Starting field of 121 players will be cut to low 60 players and ties after the
first round.
» The top 16 players after Wednesday’s second round advance to match
play. If necessary, playoffs will be held to determine the final spots.
» First round and quarterfinals will be held Thursday, June 20. The semifi-
nals and 18-hole championship will be held Friday, June 21.
» Winner receives the Clyde Luther Trophy, named after the late Rules of
Golf expert and Virginia Golf Hall of Famer.

John Hatcher Ferguson IV (2018):
Ranked second in scoring for Hamp-
den-Sydney in ‘18-’19 and posted a
low round of 65.
Ty Olinger (2016): Began his college
career at West Virginia University
before transferring to Radford,
where he is currently on the roster.
Mark Lawrence Jr. (2013-15): Won
the VSGA Amateur and reached the
semifinals of the U.S. Amateur
Championship in 2017; currently
plays at Virginia Tech.
Adam Ball (2011-12): Former VCU
standout and professional golfer.
Mikey Moyers (2007-09): Former
Web.com Tour player.
Garland Green (2006): Former Vir-
ginia Tech standout and reinstated
amateur player.
Dustin Groves (2003): Former PGA
Tour caddie and professional player,
reached match play at 2019 U.S.
Amateur Four-Ball Championship

Chris McCartin (2002): Won VSGA
Amateur Championship in 2006.

Where are they now?
The Virginia High School League held championships for all
six of its classifications in the fall. The Virginia Interscholastic
Athletic Association, comprised of private schools, held their
championships in the spring. Plenty of high finishers from the
various championships are in the field this week, including:

Champs, and other prep success stories
This week’s winner will earn an exemption into the 106th
VSGA Amateur, held June 24-28 at Keswick Golf Club. All quar-
terfinalists this week are exempt into the 67th VSGA Junior
Stroke Play Championship, held July 23-25 at Winchester CC.
Exemptions at stake
To this point, the VSGA Junior Player Rankings reflect success
on the VSGA’s Junior Golf Circuit, which features 9- and
18-hole events throughout Virginia. Every player in the top 10
of the player rankings is in the field for this championship.

On June 11 at Lake Chesdin GC, two VSGA members qualified
for the U.S. Junior Amateur Championship, which will be held
July 15-20 at Inverness Club in Toledo, Ohio. One of those play-
ers—Ben Cooper (CC of Virginia)—is in the field this week.
Cooper, a recent graduate of St. Christopher’s School in Rich-
mond who will play college golf at the University of Richmond,
posted an even-par 72 to earn medalist honors. Kelly Chinn
(Army Navy CC) also qualified. In addition, Luis Park (Virginia
Beach National GC), who earned first alternate status at the
qualifier, is playing this week at Williamsburg National.
